They are definitely worth a deeper dive. Rime of the Ancient Mariner is actually a poem you may have studied in school. Bruce is very worldly, he's a pilot who flies the bands plane, he's a public speaker, a poet, Olympic fencer, cancer survivor among other things. Most of their work is about historical events and old literature.

Well, he's 65 now, he doesn't fly the jet anymore, obviously. But he did work as a commercial pilot for a few years when he was away from iron maiden. He's definitely a prime example on what you can achieve when you've got a curious, restless mind with the necessary energy and the courage to p+ss of a few people if needed to go your way. All the kids that are hyperactive should be taught about this man, to show what they can achieve when they focus their energy a little

I went to high school in the 1980s. Always regretted not seeing them live back then. Early 80s was such a great time for this kind of metal (NWOBHM) with Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Dio, and Ozzy Osbourne. They were all in their prime.

Glad that you liked them !! Yes, you might appear like a noob not knowing any of their names 😀 But nothing wrong with that ! The singer Bruce Dickinson is a legend in the heavy metal world. His voice is out of this world, and he's full of energy (he even used to pilot the Boeing "Ed Force One" (named after their mascot Eddie) while touring... And the bassist Steve Harris is the mastermind behind everything (a little bit like a certain Tuomas...) They now have 3 guitar players, since Janick Gers who replaced Adrian Smith in the early 90 stayed with them when Smith came back early 2000. If you want a song fitting the theme of the month, you could go with "Fear of the Dark". IMHO, the best live versions are from Rock in Rio and "En Vivo" DVD. I can't really pick which one I prefer, maybe someone could help you to choose one over the other ;-) "Dance of Death" from "En Vivo" DVD (or from "Death on the Road") could match too

Iron Maiden are still selling out stadiums all over the world. They have many acts to their career. Early maiden is awesome but later Maiden (2000 and onward) is also awesome but songs in the later years tend to be much longer and more progressive metal. New Maiden songs I would recommend Dance of Death, The Red and the Black, Book of Souls, Hell on Earth. The Albums - Number of the Beast (1982) to Fear of the Dark (1992), are considered the “early years” with Bruce Dickinson on Vocals. The Wicker Man (2000) to Senjutsu (2021) and the albums in between are also all worth a listen. Bruce took a brief Hiatus after Fear of the Dark album and was away for 2 albums but he came back in 2000 for the Brave New World Album and he has never left since. I would recommend Rime of the Ancient Mariner from the Powerslave album (Live Version from 2008). My favourite albums from the early years era are Somewhere in Time and Powerslave.

This performance is as old as me. Ouch... Saw them live two years ago, for the first time. Got my ticket for next years' show already (they were sold out in just 4 hours). Massive, massive band, and one of the all-time greats when it comes to Metal. My only regret when it comes to Maiden is not having started listening to them sooner... BTW, some trivia. One of Steve Harris' (bassist and band boss in Maiden) favourite albums ever, he mentioned in an interview, is Imaginaerum by Nightwish. Also, Kai is a massive Iron Maiden fan, and good friends with Nikko McBrain, Maiden's drummer (and as Kai said himself is idol and inspiration). Lastly, Floor recorded a version of the Iron Maiden song "The Evil That Man Do", while in After Forever.

They are on another level, you get many great melodies , beauty, emotions and sentimentality , power, vigor, daring, drama, epicness, balance, dynamics and transitions all together mostly +/-, and that's specia and unique; they aren't one dimensional or just heavy or something and that's it! They're not stupid and shitty "one man show". The bassist Steve Harris is the mastermind, founder, leader, main composer and songwriter of the band

Just a small correction: at the time of that video, Janick Gers didn't join yet so they still had 2 guitarists. Also the drummer was Clive Burr, he left Maiden after their 3rd studio album due to serious health issues. Songs I would suggest listening to are this very same song, but from their Flight 666 live. Same album, "Rime of the Ancient Mariner". Also "Dance of Death" from the "EN VIVO" album.
@chriso6719Ай бұрын
You've heard a couple of their songs, it's probably the triple guitar sound that makes this seem familiar. Yes they are still active, currently on tour , and have dates scheduled through next summer. For Pennsylvania, they are in Philly Nov 1, and Pittsburgh Nov 8 2024. For Rocktober from iron Maiden, Number of the Beast fits, and maybe "Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter". In general, definitely check out The Trooper, one of their most popular songs. And then do the live version of "Wishmaster" by Nightwish from the 2005 Helsinki concert (End of an Era DVD), Emppu plays a bit of The Trooper riff at the end.

I'm guessing reactors are attached to the novelty of Iron Maiden's 1982 concert performance... and it featured Clive Burr (drums) who was out of the band by 1983 and he passed away in 2013 after a long battle w/ MS. Iron Maiden is a UK heavy metal band w/ dual (now triple) guitars that broke big in the 80's... defined by soaring vocals... songs w/ time changes and melodic guitar harmonies... songs based on dark fantasy, movies, literature, poems, history and social commentary. Steve Harris (bass) formed Iron Maiden in 1975 as a local London pub band and he wanted to play his original songs that he had begun writing... Numerous members came & went in their club days and Dave Murray (guitar) joined permanently in 1977... Paul Di'Anno (vocals) also joined in '77 and he gave Iron Maiden a punk rock edge w/ his gruff vocals that appealed to both metal and punk rock fans in the UK. After being signed in 1979, Iron Maiden also adopted a mascot - a shriveled corpse w/ hollow eyes that they named 'Eddie the Head'... which appeared an all of Iron Maiden's album covers, t-shirts and merch. Iron Maiden quickly rose in Europe as they toured for their debut 'Iron Maiden' album in 1980 before Adrian Smith (guitar) joined the band (replacing guitarist Dennis Stratton) for their 2nd album 'Killers' in 1981... However, the touring schedule took a toll on singer Paul Di'Anno and he parted ways w/ Iron Maiden in '81. Bruce Dickinson (vocals) joined Iron Maiden and his high-range vocals streamlined their sound away from their punk rock edge on their 3rd album 'The number of the Beast' in 1982, which went to #1 in the UK and platinum in the US... After the tour, Nicko McBrain (drums) replaced drummer Clive Burr in 1983. Iron Maiden dominated the 80's w/ a string of platinum records ("Piece of Mind" in 1983... 'Powerslave' in 1984... 'Somewhere in time' in 1986 and 'Seventh son of a seventh son' in 1988) and massive world tours in arenas. Weary of the music business, guitarist Adrian Smith quit Iron Maiden and was replaced in 1990 by Janick Gers (guitar)... after 2 more successful albums ('No prayer for the dying' in 1990 and 'Fear of the dark' in 1992)... singer Bruce Dickinson announced that he was leaving the band for a solo career in 1993. In 1995, Iron Maiden announced Blaze Bayley (vocals) was the band's new singer but fans were not happy w/ his gruff vocal delivery on the album 'The X Factor' released that year... The 90's decade, dominated by grunge/ alternative rock, was hostile for 80's rock/ metal bands like Iron Maiden... and a new lead singer didn't help matters... Also, their longtime producer Martin Birch had retired in '92. Bayley also struggled in concert to sing Dickinson's songs because he didn't have the range and Iron Maiden was forced to play clubs and small venues on tour... After a 2nd album 'Virtual XI' w/ Bayley on vocals in 1998 failed commercially, the decision was made to fire Blaze Bayley... They reached out to Bruce Dickinson and guitarist Adrian Smith to rejoin Iron Maiden in 1999 for a reunion tour. With a 3-guitar line-up (Dave Murray, Janick Gers and Adrian Smith)... Iron Maiden began to rebuild their fanbase globally w/ the album 'Brave new world' in 2000... followed by 'Dance of Death' (2003)... 'A matter of life and death' (2006) ... 'The Final Frontier' (2010) While working on their 2015 double album 'The Book of Souls'... vocalist Bruce Dickinson was diagnosed w/ throat cancer and needed treatment... His recovery delayed touring until 2016 and 2017. Iron Maiden latest album 'Senjutsu' was released in 2021 and the band has continued to sell out arenas and stadiums worldwide. Bruce Dickinson has also had a solo career outside of Iron Maiden and his latest solo album 'The Mandrake Project' was released in 2024 - his 7th solo album, the first since 2005.
@dragonseye00Ай бұрын
Iron maiden is still very active. Actually their latest album, Senjutsu, is their best sold album, which is saying a lot in a 40+ years career. Their last tours are mostly sold out, and next year they'll go on a stadium tour where they will play mostly (or only) songs from their first 9 albums (1980-1992). So, even though the drummer (Nicko) is getting 72 and the rest of the band is in their mid-end 60s now, they are very much alive and kicking. Nicko had a stroke early 2023, half of his body had been paralysed and he had to get rehabilitation to get at least pay off his mobility back - but yet the band did go on tour, simplified some drum patterns and changed some songs on the setlist to accommodate him, and there they are - giving their all. Steve Harris, the bass guitarist and mastermind behind the band, has a second band and either is busy with iron maiden, he is busy with British lion, or playing football. When asked why he is almost always on stage or touring, he said he wouldn't know what else to do. They live it. They have their hobbies, but they love what they're doing and how their fans respond to them. At this stage of their careers it's not about the money (sure, everyone wants to make money), but it's more about enjoying they interaction with the crowd. They'll likely be another 4-5 years (2027-2030}, but realistically iron maiden will likely retire then. With 80 years playing heavy metal drums,... I'm realistic here. Nicko will likely not play full tours with 80 years, and the Band won't play without him either. So, we're likely seeing the final active years of iron maiden.

They will never come here in Mauritius and if they do, it will be more for vacation purposes 😅 I am saving money to see them next year, I need to and they will definitely play this song. My favorite song is Infinite Dreams and if you get the chance to listen to it, you'll understand why, the song is just perfect.

You might as well check out Run to the Hills Nikki, and yes they are still active, they passed through my city only recently and drew a sizable crowd I heard..I didn't go, I was overseas at the time

Ohh I see, that's great that they're still active though. Even not knowing much by them, I think it's awesome when bands can still exist over so many years. I'll definitely be adding Run to the Hills to my list! 😊

There are some insanely good live performances of "Fear of the Dark" by Iron Maiden. "The Wicker Man" song is a pretty cool music video for Iron Maiden.

Thank you! It seems like Fear of the Dark is one a lot of people are suggesting so I'll have to put that one in the poll later today. 😊

@@nikkireviews The lyrics for "Fear of the dark" are perfect for October. I was only suggesting the "Wicker Man" because the music video is really cool.

That riff is very similar the Papa Roach song 'Last Resort' I've always thought.

I highly recommend the songs "The Number of the Beast," "Powerslave," "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" (their most epic song!), "Fear of the Dark," and "Dance of Death" for your Halloween enjoyment.

Maybe you're thinking of The Trooper (also by Iron Maiden). Those 2 riffs might sound similar to somene who "accidently" heard the song in the past.
