Another fantastic video Sarah, thank you so much. I now have another place I need to put on my "to visit" list 😂 Also, Sarah with a few shots of sake in her is very entertaining, always makes me laugh (in a good way) 😜

Delicious gyoza and a whiskey highball - now that is a good combination! Oh I like the look of those dumplings at the 2nd place you went too. I’ve never had gyoza served like those before! Wow, a very nicely-appointed room in that ryokan! And lots of space! And so much FREE STUFF! I love the view of the koi from the balcony 😮. And WOW the hot springs and garden area were so beautiful! Especially at night! It must’ve been so relaxing 😊. Haha here’s a fun fact: I was taught how to make an origami crane and a frog by a Japanese exchange student when I was in high school. I don’t remember the crane, but I can still make the frog 🐸 which also jumps! I often make them with the paper tape they use on silverware at restaurants to give the table service something fun to clean up 😂

Hahaha the story of your frog origami is so cute ☺️☺️ I've made frog origami too, but that one, I don't remember how to make... 😂

Went to Nikko at Shogaku-ryoko when I was at a Junior School.😁 We went for a day trip on 30 Dec last year and need to go back for a stay at this onsen hotel, looks amazing! Looking forward to watching Part 2. x

Thanks again for another great video that I'm probably going to follow, almost step by step, when I go to Nikko in a couple of months! I already had been recommended about the Utsunomiya Gyoza, but seeing you osusume-ing them too is all I needed!! I might change the whiskey highball for an Umeshuu one, since I'm a bit yowai when it comes to whiskey ww. Arigatou gozaimasu!! 🙇♂🙇♂

Great video, of course. Nikko has been on my list of places to visit since I started making plans for my month-long visit to Japan this coming November. After chilling/decompressing from the long flight for a day or so, Nikko is my first stop (hopefully, the first week of November the autumnal colors will still be lovely) on the way to Yamadera. Then down to Ishikawa (Kanazawa & Kaga) & Gifu (Shirakawa-go, Takayama & others). Stop in Nagoya, before the triumvirate of Kyoto, Nara & Osaka. Visit Kōyasan before heading to Hiroshima and Miyajima. Then head back to Tokyo, but along the way visiting a friend in Fujieda, stop in Hakone for a day, then Kamakura & Yokohama. Not a bad way to spend 28 days.

Sounds like an AMAZING plan for 28 days! It sounds like a lot of travelling (and a lot of planning... well done!), but I'm sure the scenery in between cities will be great 🙌

I have another friend in Gifu, who is a Licensed Guide, and she's helped me immensely with planning this solo adventure. There will definitely be a couple onsen and/or ryokan visits, but most of my lodgings will be much more austere. It's been many years since I last visited Japan and my over-arching plan for this trip is FOOD AND PHOTOS. Perhaps, in a couple years, I'll do a FOOD AND PHOTOS trip during Sakura season. Even though most of my time is only in Kanto, Chubu and Kansai, in reality I could limit my traveling even further and still have a vacation most visitors to Japan would envy, but as they say, "Go big or go home!" I really look forward to your Nikko Part 2 video.

The Ryokan looks amazing. I looked up the rate per night and came up with over $500 USD per night. A little above my budget limit. But I definitely would love to stay there if I could.

Oh that’s really high! The room I stayed at (called Tsukishiro) ranges from JPY 16,000 - 34,000 per person per night depending on the date. So I think the date you picked was the most expensive. If you go during weekday it shouldn’t be that expensive!

I read right now that the tradition says that if you fold 1000 cranes, your wish is to come true. So you have a good motive for practicing your origami skills even further. But then again, you found free alcohol before you had even started so I guess it is just a myth. 😉
@TokyoFoodieSarah Жыл бұрын
Hahahaha indeed my wish already became true even before I started folding the crane 😂 I have once contributed towards a 1000 crane when I was in primary school!
