What she said about winning a crowd over that is not there to see you, was exactly what I experienced in Budapest when they opened for BMTH. Nobody really moved, but by the end everyone was like, wow they're actually good and everyone started googling them. The exact same thing happened to me, I found a great band because of that.

Love hearing her talk about the gatekeeping and the reactions from fans when they release something different from what fans expect from them. I'm one of those that love her clean vocals and enjoy their songs that employ both styles, and the harsh-only stuff isn't really for me but I love the variety they put out there and how uniquely they work inbetween those styles. Just love those guys and honestly, love that they exist inside but also outside of my wheelhouse.

@@stevemuzak8526 You've probably heard of it but I loved Scar Symmetry's first 3 albums with Christian Alvestam on vocals - also a great blend of vocals in a song. Haven't given the other albums a proper listen yet, but I did like a bit that I've heard of the other albums too.

Courtney's words about a band's sound and 'selling out' because they release melodic space over their 'real' sound is exactly the same that happened in my scene in 90's/Y2K's. Amazing how the same situation still happens (I'm sure actually across all music generations) with a fan's comments/concerns at large when a band is trying to find their path. Diversity- the true gift.

Re: koolaid-manning into fan spaces 1:00:00 I remember when Mike and Courtney would xomment in r/Spiritbox a few years ago when it was like a 500 person subreddit. Its still only about 8500, but they disappeared pretty quick once Eternal Blue came out and more people started showing up. I just love this band so much man, they're everything I've ever wanted in a band and their music tickles my brain in just the right way. If they stopped making music after The Fear of Fear, I would still have them as my #1 all time band. And I'm so thankful to have randomly had Trust Fall suggested to me via Spotify and Courtney's lows got me hooked and I've been here to watch them release banger after banger and watch their fan base grow and grow ❤️

Thanks for posting the Twitch hangout!! Loved the interview. Would like to note that the comparisons/experience that a band feels playing differing venues is a stark contrast to the fan experience. Especially now that ticket prices are out of control. I used to go to a ton of concerts when I was a teen and can no longer afford to. I actually skipped the last time Spiritbox came around because they were the first band up during Papa Roach/Shinedown and I couldn't afford a good seat for a half hour set. Even when I like all the bands I strongly prefer club and smaller venue shows because they are much more affordable but most importantly: they sound A LOT better than arenas that were made for sporting events. Arena sound quality is terribad. EDIT: Amphitheaters are, of course, a happy medium.
