The narrative around Jokic is just weird. My guy could average 30, 16, and 12 and it still wouldn't be enough. I get it, Jokic's team was barely in playoff contention. But, Jokic had a career season. Best PER in NBA history in regular season. Only player in regular season history with 2K points 1000 REB and 500 Assists. But yet, that's not enough. When Giannis won it in 2019 and 2020 he hadn't won shit yet. But we praised him. When Jokic did the exact same thing, we shame him. International players are finally catching up in skill level since it's easier for them to get to the US so they can play for the NBA. Look at the difficulties that Arvydas Sabonis had getting into the league. He didn't make it to Portland until he was passed his prime yet if you listen to any NBA player that had to go against him in the Olympics they'd tell you how unreal he was. I personally think the media should be hyping international players more. It means the league is growing rapidly and will also add fan viewership from across the globe. I mean, if you're Serbian and had no reason to watch basketball before, maybe you'll see Jokic as a figure of pride for your country. And that's amazing in my book.

At this point people need to realize A VAST MAJORITY of "established" or "old school" television shows are intentionally designed to stir controversy. You'll stay engaged with something that angers you for far longer than something that brings you joy more times than not. It's good that with the revolution around media we can now contrast opinions against each other (for the most part, freedom of speech is kinda dead) and see what's real and what's not. Specifically in terms of basketball also I think A LOT of credit has to be given to the guys on TNT for holding such an open and honest discourse on the game of basketball at the highest level, from some of the greatest to ever play the game That validity set the standard for members of today's media like LOW and others to speak from a place of truth and objectivity or at least as far as you personally believe. It also shows people that you can find success and actually more success from taking the time to be knowledgeable and respect the topic you speak on.

I think what the MVP award should mean (not what it currently does or ever has) is the player in the league who if you traded with any other player from any other team would make that team better and their team worse. I can't think of any other thing the award should represent that makes any sense.
@SunnyHF-nf4bc2 жыл бұрын
@Pew Pew Pandas I get where you’re coming from. The problem with that is there is no way to objectively reach a conclusion about that. It’s an argument based on hypotheticals. But a big issue with the MVP award is that it’s not given before the playoffs start and people forget that it’s a regular season award.
@sheyarjames49042 жыл бұрын
That would complicate matters because if you wanna win with a superstar then you gotta construct the team around him and bring the right pieces that fit his playstyle, if we base the MVP off of trading players then both teams can be effected negatively, if you trade Luka to the Nuggets and Jokic to the Mavs then both team would suffer because each team has a completely different style that suits the capabilities of their respective superstar players
@sheyarjames49042 жыл бұрын
@@SunnyHF-nf4bc that's an annoying thing to be honest, I heard alot of people saying that he shouldn't be an MVP when he looses in the first round, people don't understand that even if a player averages 0-0-0 on 0% efficiency then it would still not impact his MVP case because it's a regular season award.
@pewpewpandas92032 жыл бұрын
@@sheyarjames4904 I don't know if the mavs would get worse there. Jokic thrives on making his team mates better. The nuggets had fuck all other than him this season and still made the playoffs. @@kylehowe6761 Of course they don't treat them the same way, but to say that it's racially motivated is Incorrect. Has Denver Won a Ring? Gone to the WCF? Does he want to be in these commercials? An agent can give him opportunities, but he could be denying them to do commercials in his country(Which he has done). Does he market himself? Being in Denver(Just like Utah) it's not much of a Marketable place, but he's definitely getting the time because of his MVP awards. It's crazy you say Giannis gets overrated because he doesn't shoot 3s. Yet, Look at the numbers. Jokic shoots 2.9 3s a game, Giannis shoots 2.4 3s a game. Jokic doesn't shoot either. Giannis actually got minimal air time before he won the championship. The Narrative was the same as it is for Jokic. Has he won anything? Has he gotten to the WCF? etc. etc. Back then, it was more about Bron and the Lakers, KD, Steph, etc. When Giannis was on his Championship run, the media was basically running the narrative that he was a "Robin" that he wasn't even a leader... a superstar player... the #1 Option. I haven't heard that same Narrative for Jokic. They just compare him to Embiid and say that Jokic "Robbed" him. To be real here, they want to market athleticism, when guys like Jokic, Harden, Luka, come into play, they view that type of play to be "Boring" because it's not appealing to them. In order for these players to get recognized, they have to Win. Luka's now getting more recognition because he's made it to the WCF. It doesn't matter about how many commercials, air time, etc. one should have. If he doesn't Win, they don't talk.
