Giving it to Jokic this year was a make up for snubbing him last year. SGA deserved it this year big time. I don't think the award means much at all because it doesn't prove they're the best player during the season and is voted completely by sports writers. Multiple players will get snubbed every year just like the all-star teams. Jordan should've realistically won seven or eight.

Yeah and obviously if young Shai keeps it up he'll get his accolades in due time. Same goes for ANT and other rising stars. This is supposed to motivate such players to keep stepping up their game. Shaq is just a dedicated hater of any center after him, afraid it'll tarnish his legacy. If Jokic had been a guard, I think he probably would've thought that the Joker as MVP was the right choice. He's a Jokic hater no doubt, but only because Jokic's a big. The issues of the other commentators (Jokic is white and European) is not something I think he cares about.
@lightbeforethetunnel
@lightbeforethetunnel 20 күн бұрын
@niels9203 I think it's both of those issues, with Shaq. He wants to defend his legacy and he's also got a bias against white players. I hate to say it, but the pattern of his takes over the decades reveals a clear pattern on that. He attempts to veil it slightly but only just enough so people who don't want to see it won't. Consider why this particular MVP pick is the one that triggered Shaq the most to the point that he pulled a Kanye West at the VMAs. It's because it triggers him in not only 1 way, but 2.
@niels9203
@niels9203 20 күн бұрын
@@lightbeforethetunnel Hmm, yes, I hadn't thought of it like that. I tend to notice that Shaq's takes are the worst when discussing other bigs. I don't remember him having really terrible takes on e.g. Luka (compared to Luka haters, that is). Though I'll be honest: I stopped watching basketball to a large extent in 2013 until 2020 (the "superteam" era). It's only after the bubble championship that I'm really watching a lot of games again (and the media circus surrounding it). My point was that Shaq isn't simply a Gilbert Arenas-type (white) European player hater and more a fellow big-hater, but one doesn't rule out the other, of course.

Kobe should have at least 3 mvps. IMO, he was blackballed because of the Colorado accusation and the way Shaq left the Lakers. Back then lots of “analysts” hated him and David Stern did not want to promote Kobe. Its incredible he did not win between 2004 to 2007 where he carried the Lakers to a finals with an out of shape and injured Shaq and made the playoffs and push the Suns to the brink with a depleted squad after the Shaq trade. These awards are bunch of political bs.
@mc76
@mc76 20 күн бұрын
Before you canonize Kobe, let's see what he had to say about the "Colorado accusation": "First, I want to apologize directly to the young woman involved in this incident. I want to apologize to her for my behavior that night and for the consequences she has suffered in the past year. Although this year has been incredibly difficult for me personally, I can only imagine the pain she has had to endure. I also want to apologize to her parents and family members, and to my family and friends and supporters, and to the citizens of Eagle, Colo. "I also want to make it clear that I do not question the motives of this young woman. No money has been paid to this woman. She has agreed that this statement will not be used against me in the civil case. Although I truly believe this encounter between us was consensual, I recognize now that she did not and does not view this incident the same way I did. After months of reviewing discovery, listening to her attorney, and even her testimony in person, I now understand how she feels that she did not consent to this encounter."

Kobe was an all time great, for sure, but it is undeniable que was extremely individualistic in his game to the point of his decision making being compromised by his confidence. Jordan worked a bit on this, had valuable players around, Kobe trusted no one. He was so good it usually worked, but it is of common knowledge that moving the ball around more increases the chances of scoring, thus it is more efficient. What Im trying to say is , if kobe was not on a GREAT day (usually he was great), the chances of losing increased a lot. Take Harden for example, he has no rings, and will never have because he does not have the defensive ability and compromise Kobe had, but the attacking approach is the same. Im the best, i carry the ball and shoot. One worked a lot (kobe was far better) and the other one never works.

Shaq talking about shai, hell I had Luka too over shai. Man averaged if you round up 34, 10 and 9 on damn near 50% shooting leading that mavs squad to a 5th seed in a loaded west with a lesser squad

And now he’s being exposed yet again against any real interior defence (he’s been shut down by an old Dwight and under sized Draymond in the playoffs) it’s a watered down soft era with the worst big men in 40 years. Go ahead and whine about it below but he would be average in the 90’s. SGA should have won mvp as well there’s no doubt about it.

LeBron should have one MVP MAX. The voters fell in love with analytics. Jokic is just exposing that love affair. Gotta be consistent...

He has multiple 40pt games against 4x DPOY Gobert. It takes 3 bigs just to slow him down and yall saying he's getting exposed. I hope you know Kareem's era thought the 90s was soft too. You're not saying anything substantial hanging on to the 90s for dear life.

I think most mvps lost by kobe went to the right player. Being top 5 on the nba for 14 years is nothing to scoff at. It feels like ppl have been elevating kobe alot ever since his tragic passing.

Wow. An MVP being discredited for the color of his skin?!?! That sounds like racism to me.

Skap- Love seeing that you’re becoming a regular on Whitlock’s Fearless show. I’m 47 yrs old, I’m a Colorado native (currently reside in Columbus, OH), a lifelong Nuggets fan, as well as a lifelong NBA fan. You are by far, one of the most knowledgeable, and entertaining NBA analysts, across the board, that I’ve seen. And you’ve managed to create your own unique style, and delivery, which is tough to do in todays over saturated, social media garbage dump, inhabited by a bunch of knuckle-dragging buffoons, who use outrage culture antics to create content that attracts people with room temperature level IQs. Hats off to you, my friend…… -Jonathan

SGA deserves votes for getting a super young team that isnt the most talented to the number 1 seed. Luka deserves his share of votes given his numbers and improved defense. Jokic is just on a different level hes the best player in the league.

My hesitation with that is... Only reason Wolves weren't #1 seed is KAT was out for 20+ games and just came back before the playoffs. So it's really Ant who took a young team on a historically bad Wolves and made them the best team in the league.

I agree Jokic is the best btw. I just meant that in response to what you said for SGA
