When Nikola Tesla was born, the Austrian Empire still existed. An ethnic Serb, he came into the world in modern-day Croatia on July 10th, 1856. His birth seemed to foreshadow his life’s work, as his mother was in labor during a massive lightning storm. The lightning that flashed during Tesla’s birth was considered an ill omen by the midwife, but Tesla’s mother didn’t agree. Instead, she proclaimed that:

Deividas Melnikas On of my favorite quotes. Tesla was, quite literally, robbed. It is tragic he never saw the true fruits of his genius. Although, I think if he was able to see how his work has influenced the world, he would be far happier than he would be as a millionaire.

@@lyubomirkaradzhov165 Edison only electrocuted two cats to show that AC can be legitimately dangerous, which is in fact true and not something that should be ignored. Which while true, was indeed meant to make DC look more appealing during the war of the currents. However this was a not a battle between Edison and Tesla, rather it was a battle between Westinghouse, Tesla's boss, and Edison. Tesla at this point wasn't that big yet. Also, Tesla didn't invent AC, it already existed back then, hell he studied it in college. What Tesla did back then was invent/improve a specific part that allowed AC to become far more viable than it was previously. As for the elephant executions, that was an event unrelated to the war of the currents and also unrelated to Edison himself. The elephant was from a circus and wasn't treated very well, it ended up killing someone and it was ruled that it had to be executed. The original execution was supposed to be through hanging, yes they wanted to hang a bloody elephant. But they decided to instead kill it through a combination of electrocution and poison. The only relation this event has to Edison was that Edison's company send some people to film it. Which caused it to be archived and thus remembered.

If i'm honest I feel like this biographic has missed some key elements. Firstly, the importance of his work isn't fully realised, particularly regarding the Marcone issue and that he was said to be using 17 of Tesla's patents. Secondly the climate of the time was very cut throat and unregulated - Edison, in his attempts to disprove Tesla's AC current as safe, knowingly electrocuted animals in public to turn favour to his less adequate DC current. The essence of what Tesla was all about is not captured, he hated greedy corporations and wanted his work to contribute to the furthering of humanity, not at a price to the highest bidder. Money was mentioned too often as a point here and regarding Tesla it wasn't important, it was just a means to an end.

Justin O'Brien Tesla was content to allow Marconi to use his patents until it cost him everything. He knew about it, but simply didn't care. He didn't sue until after he'd lost all his money and financial backing. It was essentially an act of desperation. Tesla had always assumed that his ideas would bring him wealth eventually as he had never exhausted his ideas. Tesla had already been using radio for his remote control model ships, so he had already invented and had been using radio in practical applications long before Marconi. The problem was that simply using radio to transmit messages seemed to Tesla a footnote of the technology, while he himself wanted to create a global wireless power system. He was so focused on THAT goal, that he ignored the transatlantic goal set by industrialists (which he could've achieved easily and with far better results than Marconi) and thereby lost all his backing from that time forward. He was essentially blacklisted by JP Morgan and couldn't get any backers until the day he died, although he had offered numerous inventions afterwards, including Radar during WWI (which ironically was an extremely important technology in WWII), but was apparently told by the US Military that it had no need for it. While he had always been somewhat eccentric, it does seem that in his later years after losing all his backing, that he did suffer from a deeper mental breakdown. I don't think he lost his brilliance, but it did make him more desperate and he almost certainly suffered from a deep depression. In the end, the US Supreme Court decided in Tesla's favor, that he was indeed the inventor of radio, but unfortunately it came too late. The decision was made in the same year, but after his death.

Edison was like Elon Musk is today, he understood the technology but didn't pioneer it, instead gave a platform. He was a visionary more than an inventor. I'm European and I'm grateful he existed, without him there are a lot of technologies that weren't even being looked at - at the time that he made possible. He was greedy and wanted to be the star of the show but I can name you countless famous Europeans that we adore that've treated people around them even worse including getting away with literal rape not just intellectual rape. The blanketed hate though, even after Tesla had left he never hated Edison and still appreciated his work so why would I think any different? Tesla was poor with money and initially trusted people too much but long term he kept the right people around him and wasn't a fool as many people seem to think he was. He was more than just an inventor.

I've been obsessed with Tesla since I was a small child, no wonder I went on to also be obsessed with electronics and electrical engineering haha. In 1898 Tesla demonstrated a radio controlled boat, could move it, turn lights on and off and such. At a time before a lot of people knew radio waves even existed and certainly no radio controlled anything, this absolutely stunned those that watched. He even designed a clockwork frequency changer for it in case the US government wanted a radio controlled torpedo that the enemy couldn't signal jam, I guess it was a drone before drones.

Hey, you Tesla-Pros. I have a question and maybe one of you could help me. There was another famous electro-pioneer working with Tesla. He was of german or maybe jewish herritage. I think and his last name started with a G., but i'm not sure about it. He has a cuircuitry named after him. He wrote several books, that are still availabe and even understandable for noobs. He was a known socialist. No judgement passed by me. It's just a hint. I knew his name once and wanned to get his books, but unfortunately i completely forgot his name. 😬 Maybe one of you can help me?

Simon you put up your Top Tenz description. Let's me know you're human after all. *:-)* As to this video I'm going to sound like a hipster for a second. I was into Tesla way back before he was a popular internet topic. I loved reading everything I could find about him in the school library when I was a kid (around 1980). I think it's pretty cool that he gets the recognition he deserves now that we can learn almost everything about someone so easily. Really enjoy this channel.

Dsdcain: I’m a bit tired of it tbh. Since everyone has read that comic strip by the Oatmeal it seems they glorify testla and greatly demonize and downplay Edison’s accomplishments. In reality it is not one person, but a series of people who forge the way to those discoveries. It’d be nice to recognize some other people for a change imo, especially considering AC energy had been studied 50+ plus Tesla was able actually apply the theory
