@@patricksmith2553 the afs 35f1.4G is the weakest f1.4 prime in Nikon lineup. Sigma Art 35 owns it in almost every way
@patricksmith25535 жыл бұрын
@@frankluo230 I highly disagree with you, but I will give you that the Sigma is sharper overall. People like you only care about and seem to know about sharpness and trust me it's not the only character of lenses that matters. The Nikon lens is plenty sharp enough, especially for the D4s and D5 I was using it on, and even my D800E. None of this matter's anymore because I have sold the Nikon and replaced with the best 35mm lens ever made. The new Tamron 35mm f1.4, which is incredibly sharp, has excellent contrast, bokeh, AF speed, AF reliability and build quality. See I just named 5 other things, besides sharpness that matter. Sigma just throws in a million elements and coatings to get around their poor optical engineering. Too many elements arranged in a bad optical formula, may result in great center sharpness....but. Thats not all that matters and many Sigma lenses have really bad autofocus reliability. I am a full time working professional photojournalist and can't have AF problems and or build quality issues. Tamron seems to have been able to check every box, with their new 40th Anniversary lens, and everyone who has bought or reviewed the lens agrees.

If the side by side photos were intended to show the superiority of the $1,600 lens over the $300 lens, I'm afraid I missed the point, especially on a 12 mp D700, which is what I still shoot. Thanks for showing me that for the $1300 difference, I'm not missing out on anything that I need by using the 35mm f2 AF-D lens. true, i want a prime lens mainly to do the abiality to blur the crap out of the backgrounds, especially for pictures of people. my only concern is the 50mm might be to tight for indoor shots of peoeple? im prob going to do portraits shots, but seeing group shots and full body shots prob too. would the 50 suffice? the other reason i liek the 50mm was it seems better built and nicer then the 35 interms of the lens itself but of course its the photo that counts!

Kai always recommends expensive lens over the budget lens. He should emphasize what is the best use of a budget lens. Nikon India video recommends a 35 mm lens for group portraits and an aperture of f/8 to have everyone in sharp focus. If so, why not buy a budget lens? I think reviewers do not understand why Nikon makes such a variety of lenses and continues to produce older lenses even after they introduced the f/1.8 and f/1.4 lenses. Kai always talks of bokeh even for wide angle lenses!!!

If you have a DX camera, go for the 35mm. If you have a full-sized sensor, go for the 50mm. I own both, but I tend to use the 35mm more, except when I need maximum sharpness, then I go with the 50mm. There really is something magical about the 50mm focal length. In my opinion, ALL DX cameras should come with a 35mm 1.8G and all full-sized sensor cameras should come with a 50mm 1.4G. We would have better photographers who learn to properly frame their subjects. :)

@Dragon4eva13 жыл бұрын
@Moemay9 Wow, well googled..It affects your angle of view, not bokeh..The only difference is a crop sensor takes the centre part of the frame. You can even take your full frame, and take the shot, then crop it out and have the same effect. All you're doing is having to step back to get the same angle of view as a full frame, which is increasing your focal distance. This is what affects your DOF, not the sensor size.

Nice comparison! However, those lenses are far apart from each other. I have to note that the `G` designation is not a high-quality indication, as it is with Minolta/Sony G (Gold) lenses, but more of a handicap since you cannot mount G lenses on manual focus camera's and have aperture control due to the removal of the aperture ring. Before 2010 when the f1.4G came out, the f2 AF-D was the best 35mm lens of Nikon. However, the f1.4G has taken over that position.

I have owned f/2d for years and have never wished it was sharper, wide open resolves eye lashes but DOF is already very narrow so focus needs to be spot on. F/2d has amazingly rich and deep colours, it is low element count lens, B&W pictures are on pair with voigtlander 25mm 1.4, I can't find any faults and as it is small balances very well on my d3s Really I can't see a reason to buy a bigger 35mm even if it was priced the same
