Nikon 50mm f1.8 series E - and why you should buy one!

I take a walk out on Hollow ponds plain with my D800 and 50mm f1.8 Series E - test it ... get loads of my facts wrong and have to correct them (hummm possibly a late career change to politician might be in order) and meet a Highland Piper in East London. All in a day's work!

The Nikon Series E lenses are great bargains. I have the 50mm, 100mm, and two 75-150mm zooms. I use them as expendable backups to my more expensive Nikkor lenses.

If you ever get a chance to get the Japanese domestic market AIs version of this pancake lens, you can tell the difference because they focused down to .45m and being the non E series it has more coatings.

Its a very good lens and is pretty well glued to my FM3a

With FM and FE cameras it makes them almost pocketable!

Concur. The series e 100 2.8 is on par with the Nikkor 105mm Ai-S f/2.5 - used to take the famous portrait of the Afghan girl in 1985.

@@michaelrasmussen3347 actually 100mm is pretty much the perfect for the 'tight head and shoulders shot' when shooting actors on stage at dress rehearsals 🙂 Sadly re the Afghan Girl pic we don't have Kodachrome any more!

You could do a lot worse then the 50mm E series ... sharp, tiny - and somehow cute!
