Hey great segment! Of course she rocked on the violin but I thought the black and white shot was amazing and I really like the couple dancing in the background that came out good too. Thanks for taking us along, and you know I enjoyed your 30-year history that you put out last week that was excellent! Dude you've been doing this since you were 11 another gig under your belt. Great music, beautiful photos, and looks like a great event. There are so many of the 70/80-200 2.8 lenses out there, and I appreciate seeing the VR II. I have the VR (or VR I if you prefer) which I love, but am now moving to the Tamron G2 version. This lens is such a workhorse: portraits, events, weddings, wildlife, sports, and even landscapes in certain places (sunsets etc.). Older 80-200 2.8 versions are so affordable that it's hard to imagine any photographer not having some flavor of this lens.

Thanks for the video Vahagn! I would love to get your opinion about this lens paired up with my D6. I just bought the latest 24-70mm along with a D6 after having out of focus shots with a D4 and the previous version of the 24-70mm. For years this combo worked great. Once I tried out my new D6 with my new 24-70mm I was blown away with how fast the lens focused and the clarity of the photos. With Nikon offering fire sales on their the latest 70-200mm DSLR lenses and camera bodies it's obvious they are wanting to get rid of these lenses lenses in favor of their Z series lenses. I'm not quite ready to jump into the Z9 era as video is not a big deal for me. I do see myself venturing into the Z9 series once they catch up with Sony & Canon with their AI focusing. My question...how well will the current 70-200mm DSLR lens work with the Z9 camera? Thanks...

Great video and pictures Vahagn. I lucked up/came across a VR II version in excellent condition and a price I couldn't turn down after a long time of debating if I should go for the VR II, or VR III. It's paired with my D780 and I'll say, the images the two create are really crisp. At a max zoom, all the meta data shows 200mm.

@@Vahagraphy that's not a deal breaker to me either. I took a lot of shots zoomed in at 200mm and all the Metadata shows that. Maybe I got lucky and bought a true 70-200mm VR II.

Being a former user of this lens as well as the FL version, and now the Z one for the mirrorless Z6II, I can truly say that the VRII has the most pleasant rendering. The northrups bashed this lens for its focus breathing issues, putting that aside it is a great lens

Great comment here. THank you Pedro. Interesting that you mention the other 2 lenses, wich are amazing aswell. well they have to be, they are the newer versions of this lens. but your comment about this lens just solidifies my decision to keep this lens and not upgrade for now. Thank you, ohh and btw sure many people trash this lens, thats fine. I will just keep getting results like this while others bash it. thats fine. :)

If you're talking about the E vs G and Canon comparison video Tony did - I didn't really take that as "bashing" the other lenses - I saw it more of promoting the changes (improvements?) of the FL lens (if I'm looking at the wrong video, please let me know). If you had said the "angry guy" or "big hair" then I'd have not really thought about it, but AFAIK, Tony and Chelsea have always seemed pretty fair to all sides. Others have mentioned the "focus breathing" issues, and some may care about that (I don't). I've always felt that if that 2%-5% extra zoom at 200mm is critical to a person, then they should be looking at something that tops out at 300mm to 400mm rather than depending on the 200 (just IMO) I do value your point about the "most pleasant rendering", and I'll certainly consider a VR II purchase perhaps for next spring.
@pedrotorres9499
@pedrotorres9499 3 жыл бұрын
@@charlesdavis6371 That's the video I was talking about, now that I think about it the wrod ''bashing'' is not the right term, the video is quite fair fir all lenses as you said. The FL ED version is lighter, sharper and handles the focus breathing issue pretty well, the Z version is a tad better than the FL ED. renderingwise I prever the VRII.

Be honest bro, If you couldn't afford the 70-200 Z lens, would this lens with the FTZII on a Z6II perform well in sports? I know the Z lens would be tops, but would it pperform as well on the Z6 as it would on a D850 or D5?
@Vahagraphy
@Vahagraphy Жыл бұрын
Well first of all. not long enough for sports. and no, it will not perform as well. The Z version blows it away in almost every aspect. But for DSLR cameras. sure. I'd use this lens. I like the bokeh and like the fact it does not have that swirly bokeh. It's suited me well over the years and I still have it. Great lens.

Very nice shots! The rendering is beautiful and the areas in focus are tack sharp. I have been split between paying more for the E version of this lens and the less expensive G version. Has anyone tried them both? The difference in price (at least in my area) is marginal so I don't mind the extra money if I get even better performance, otherwise, I'd get the G version and save some while at it. Loved the look. On a side note, the violinist was playing Katyusha which is a Soviet song, you can find a beautiful version on KZbin performed by the Red Army Choir and I'm almost certain this was an Armenian wedding, nice tunes there too!
