Hi Danielle, I have been using Back Button AF for years. The trick I didn't know was setting up the joy stick to use Group + AF. That will be a huge benefit when shooting birds. When they are stationary just use the AF ON button and if they take flight switch to the joystick to take advantage of Group + AF. Great Tip!! Thanks, Craig.

Hi Craig, yes indeed - easier to pick up the bird in flight with the group AF - I mainly use group and single point and seems to work for me :-) Thanks for the comment!

Great clip. I just set up the same option on the sub-selector. So, in order to use it, do I need to keep the sub-selector depressed while shooting, or do I simply press it once, release then shoot?

The only problem with doing videos for newer cameras is that I have to now try to persuade myself not to upgrade my older cameras! Also good to see a Nikon user rather than the others using Cannon.

Haha, so true! It's a never ending problem once the photo bug has bitten.Thanks Ben - I am definitely outnumbered by the Canons here but am aiming at producing Nikon specific content so keep an eye out for more of my videos :-)

I am using a d5600 the first part of your instructions works, but the second part I do not see where to change those settings on the camera. F1 there is no af on - listed.

Thank you Danielle, I have a question about 3D tracking... On the D500, I have the back buttons for group and single point, with AF Activation to AF-ON only. I would like to experiment with 3D tracking but I can't figure it out. Is it possible to enable 3D tracking while also having active back buttons?
@PangolinWildlife
@PangolinWildlife 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, funny you should ask this - last week I was trying the same thing on my D850 and I believe the D500 is the same. It seems you can't assign 3D tracking to a "shortcut" or back button. So what I did was I set my default AF area mode to 3D (by using the AF button on left of camera body) and then assigned my shortcuts to single and group. I think that should answer your question? It's an improvement Nikon should make. -Danielle

@@danielle-pangolinphotohost1005 You don't know the Conan SOE 5L Mk III released 2017? It's a left handed DSLR. The images are saved in the left hand format gpj. Also the sensor ist made left hand so the images are mirrored. But that is good for selfies you make in through a mirror. They are not mirrored anymore. I think on the thumbnail is a left hand DSLR from Nokin. That's Conan's biggest competitor. Take a look. Sorry about that the article is only in German. Maybe Conan developed the 5L Mk III only for the German market? n3ws.eu/2016/12/13/erste-dslr-fuer-linkshaender-vorgestellt/ I think it's a nice joke and it's not made for the 1st of April. 😂 I hope you enjoy it...

@@danielle-pangolinphotohost1005 Hi Danielle. Sorry, yeh I was a bit hasty writing my comment and after I watched your video I realised my mistake. What Nikon do you use? I couldn't quite see from the video. I have been using Nikon since my first camera which was a Nikkormat FT3 then the F601 then a D80 which unexpectedly died, Now I am using a D7200. I used the D7200 for the couple of entries I made for your competition. I missed the baby animal category. I would have sent my baby rhino one even though looking at the selection I wouldn't have had a snow balls hope against those entries. BTW unless I am mistaken again I thought you did a comparison on 2 Canon cameras once before. Hugh
@danielle-pangolinphotohost1005
@danielle-pangolinphotohost1005 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Hugh, no worries. I use the D850 and D750 as backup. You're a true Nikonite! Years of Nikon usage, happy to hear you're still with them. I'd have to really take time to find my way around an FT3 now...would probably struggle! Which lens do you use with your D7200? We've had some super images in the competition - you should keep entering (animal behaviour category is the next one). We work with Canon cameras at Pangolin so I might've had one in hand on a video but when we do Nikon specific videos, you'll see me there. Also, people often get confused between Sabine, Janine and myself - someone once asked if Pangolin only employs blondes haha :-)

I CAN DIRECTLY FOCUS THE BIRDS IN FLIGHT WITH THE SUBSELECTOR BUTTON AND CAN TAKE SHOT (NO NEED OF AFON BUTTON TO PRESS) ? what is the technique
