My D700 front rubber grip started peeling off, so I got a replacement grip on eBay and recorded the entire process of removing the old grip, removing the old adhesive, cleaning the camera, then installing the new grip!
I bought the replacement grip from DH Cameras on eBay.

Very helpful thanks. The rubber thumb grip fell off my Nikon D700 and I need to replace it. I didn't realise Nikon don't do these repairs on the D700 anymore.

Yeah, unfortunately it's a 'discontinued' and 'unsupported' camera, though I'm guessing my own will be running another 5-10 years!

They still repair the d700 over here in Europe but the rubber grips are no longer available and haven't been for quite some time.

Very good explanation (even the background music which sounds like tuneful aircraft). One thing i'd say as a piece of advice is to make sure that the seller on eBay (etc) sells the replacement rubbers with the double-sided tape already applied or with tape templates. Seller in my case falsely represented the listing as having the rubbers pre-taped but in my case the tape was bundled separately. It's really not easy to cut the tape to fit! The seller may afterwards give you a refund on pain of leaving a positive review -this is how they can continue to supply substandard grips across the world

That's a great video, thank you. I want to remove and replace the old rubber / faux leather on the back of my Nikon F100 (the door that opens to insert the film). It has gone all sticky and horrible, and obviously the covering needs replacing. I'm happy to use fake leather, but my problem is removing the old rubbery material. I simply cannot do it. I've tried using the alcohol based solvent and it makes no impression on it whatsoever. I just want to remove it, I'm not worried about it coming off in pieces. Do you have any tips or advice? Thanks.

Hi, Great video. I received grips for my D3000s from the same company. The grips are well mad, but the 3M tape that was supplied will not stick to the grips. The outside edges keep peeling. I even tried using industrial 2 sided tape with no luck. Some of the reviews on the grips stated the same problem. I tried cleaning the grips with alcohol, degreaser and the last step I tried was even gas on a rag, then washing with Dawn. Do you have any ideas of how to make the tape stick? Thanks,

@@JeffGeerlingim on the fence between new old stock and the off brand grips, did you notice a difference in quality or feel? Its like 1/4 the price for the D4s grips 🥴 good that its lasted a long time, thats very promising.

@@JeffGeerling thanks that helps my decision greatly. I had a d3 for many years and loved it too, i think its similar guts to the 700. I sold it all 7 years ago and miss everything so i picked up a d4s for about $1100cad with swelling grips. I also am really enjoying the way it renders. Ive heard some new stuff is “more accurate” or something but is cooler overall.

Still working great! I mostly use the camera for timelapses on a tripod, so it doesn't get the abuse that a typical workhorse main camera would get, but none of the grips are loose at all.

Attach adhesive to the rubber, then attach rubber to camera. Genuine Nikon rubber parts come with preattached adhesive.

@@JeffGeerling I did find a picture of a genuine Nikon rubber grip with preattached double sided tape. Had to reattach a D300 +D700 rubber, man what a struggle to get the old crap off and cut the right pieces of double sided tape. The right tape is science too.

i think a more easy way and maybe better is to use a rubber- plastic elastic glue to attach the grip. often the adhesive coming with those aftermarket grips are really bad. even if the adhesive comes attach to the grip its so bad quality that is not sticking to the rubber and can be removed easily. so if you have the plain rubber( like the video) you have to choices. or to buy a good quality adhesive and cut it in the shape of grip or use a glue. cut the adhesive is exactly as the grip and attach it to the camera takes too much time and precision and with a small mistake everything can go wrong. i found that using a glue is the best easy way for attaching the rubber.
