We have not had any D7100?s returned to us with any oil issues. This is in fact the first I've heard of the camera in relation to such an issue. There have been reports of this problem in the past on other Nikon models, but is no longer an issue at this point. If you do happen to receive a model with any type of defect, you are covered both by Nikon's warranty as well as B&H's 30 day return policy. - Yossi

The AF-assist will work in the P, A, S, and M modes with the camera. Depending on what focusing mode you use may be causing the problem. Make sure the camera is set to AF-S or AF-A focusing modes. In the owner?s manual, pages 322 illustrate the modes the feature can and cant be used in, and page 301 will indicate lenses that the AF-assist feature does not work with. If you still have problems, I?d recommend you contact Nikon directly for further support as you may have a defect. - Yossi

Larry Becker responds: For the review, I had Active-D off and the other two settings on for that test, but I just redid my test and I turned off all three features (Auto Distortion Control, Active-D, and High ISO NR) and I even set it to capture just large JPEGs (no RAW) and I got pretty much the same performance. Seven shots at the highest speed and then it dropped to about 2 and a half shots a second as the buffer cleared at that rate. I was using a 400x Class 10 SD card. Hope that helps.

Its a big improvement. I had a D7000 and the images from the D7100 are VERY sharp. I was blown away by the quality of the stills on this camera. I also love the HDR and bracketing features on this over my D7000. I shoot a lot of HDR and this camera is going to give me awesome results. This truly is a professional grade camera... maybe not the best choice for extreme shooting in bad weather or rough or dusty locations... but other than that .... its a wonderful camera.

Yes, the D5200 has an optical low pass filter. Most DSLR's have this. The omission of the OLPF?s in cameras such as the D7100 and D800e is a relatively new trend in sensor/camera design. A few companies are starting to offer models with some variation of this design concept. For now I wouldn't say it's a make or break type of feature, the cameras with the OLPF's are still plenty sharp. - Yossi

The D7100 is a replacement for the D7000 camera, and is a better model camera. The D600 is basically a full-frame version of the D7100. The features between the two are very similar, the size of the sensor/format being the main difference. - Yossi
@BandH11 жыл бұрын
Both cameras have similar image quality, but the Nikon D7100 has been tested and stated as having slightly better image quality, especially in regards to low-light performance. However, the Sony Alpha SLT-A77 would be the faster camera and would be better for HD video needs.
@BandH11 жыл бұрын
Optical quality-wise, the Nikon D7100 is only slighty better than the Nikon D5100. The main differences between the two is the D7100 has better focusing with both more focusing points and more cross-type points to assist low- light or difficult focusing issues. For wedding photography, the 18-105mm lens would be more flexible for wedding photography as it has more framing options being a zoom lens. For a better option, the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM Zoom Lens for Nikon would work.

The D7100 would be a very good upgrade from the D5100. The D5200 is more of an update of the D5200 and not so much of a step up or out of the entry-level category. If you are looking for an upgrade, then go for the D7100. - Yossi

I had similar burst limitations on my D7000 but found that if I disable auto distortion control I can fire off nearly unlimited high speed bursts. I believe Active D-lighting and high iso noise reduction would limit your bursts as well. I would be interested in knowing if any of these settings were enabled on the D7100 in this video.

I mostly shoot wildlife, action, and photojournalism photos. I currently use 2 D3300 and 1 D300. I'm wondering if there's a reason the ISO goes to 6400 on the D7100 and 12,800 for the D3300. I should add that I recently bought a D7100 (2 weeks ago) and it's sitting in the box because I don't like the lock on the top left dial and to get to the pre-set scenes takes several steps to get to with the D7100 where it was quicker with the D3300. I wish I would have looked for A D300s instead of the D7100.

In English-speaking North America (only), the accepted pronunciation is "Nigh-kon" (a "long" i); elsewhere it would have a "short" i sound. That pronunciation was established even before there was official distribution in NA by American servicemen and photojournalists bringing the earlier rangefinders back with them. Even Nikon uses the "Nigh-kon" pronunciation in their English North American promotional materials.

Would I see much improvement in image quality with a D610 compared to the D7100? I usually takes pics of Birds outdoors in sunny conditions
@BandH10 жыл бұрын
The D7100 is an excellent camera, and I don?t know how much difference you will notice in the quality of your images going from it to the D610 if you are shooting wildlife outdoors in sunny conditions. The smaller format sensor might actually be an advantage for this, as with the crop factor, your telephoto lenses appear more telephoto allowing for more reach, which can be key for taking photos of birds. Depending on your lenses, upgrading lenses could provide a larger difference in the quality of images you are getting. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com

If you are looking to purchase your first DSLR, you might look at the Nikon D3300. It?s one of Nikon's introductory DSLRs, and would be extremely user friendly. It would still have great image quality. Otherwise, the D5300 would be another great option. It would be a step above the D3300 in Nikon's line-up, but would still be one of their more user friendly introductory DSLRs. The D5300 will have a few more advanced features and a bit better image quality and low light performance. That being said, for a first DSLR, it would be hard to go wrong with either. *Christina* askbh@bandh.com bhpho.to/1B6iKB5

Both cameras have almost identical image quality, with the Nikon D7100 DSLR camera having a slight edge regarding dynamic range & color depth. The main difference would be size & performance. The D5300 is smaller, has slightly better low-light performance & lower noise at higher ISO settings, & has built-in GPS. The D7100 has faster focusing, dual memory card slots, faster frame rate, better battery life, has a brighter viewfinder, & is weather-sealed. Both are good, but I prefer the D7100.

I would recommend submitting your inquiry concerning your issue either to B&H Photo by e-mailing prophoto {at} bhphoto.com, or you may contact Nikon directly either by calling them with your issue at 1-800-NIKON-US (1-800-645-6687) 9AM-8PM EST, Monday to Friday, or by e-mail using the link on their website on the link included below. As no question is listed above, and I do not know the age of your memory card, the best I can recommend would be to either try re-formatting your memory card in your camera before your next usage, and if that does not work, you may need to replace your memory card. The Nikon D7100 was originally released in 2013, and if the camera (and memory card) was purchased soon after its release, it may be the age of the card or the number of save/delete/reformat cycles that have been cycled on the card. As stated, all of this is simply guessing as no question was listed, so I would recommend sending your inquiry to one of the aforementioned contact points to see if they may have more information. bit.ly/2pQPr7V
