So glad Nikon is making some serious moves to prove people wrong, they're so underrated it hurts. Been shooting Nikon since 2009, first ever camera brand and have stuck with them since.

Thanks for the insight man! I've been a nikon video shooter for a long time mainly because I inherited a couple bodies and glass years ago and just kept branching from there. I probably would have started with a different brand had I had the money/option to do so, but it's also been interesting to see how many people chase the gear and the trends instead of REALLY learning their own gear and using it to its potential. I'm no expert filmmaker, but having been working with the Nikon brand for a while and having to navigate through its strengths and weaknesses for the past few years has been a fun challenge. That being said, I'm super excited for whatever potential changes will be coming to both bodies and glass for Nikon moving forward now that they're so closely knit with a leading cinema camera company. Thanks again for this video and the research you did to make it, interesting stuff!

Internal RED Raw in a Nikon mirrorless camera body... take my money please!!! This is going to be amazing as I was already quite curious about Nikon Raw. Not sure how things are going to play out with the current Canon RF mount RED cameras... maybe Nikon will offer a service to have the RF mount swapped out for a Z mount? Either way, lots of exciting things to look forward to with this merger!!
@cweb198810 ай бұрын
Dude if they opened up the patent and let all camera brands put RAW internal video in their cameras.....that'd be so glorious.....be too good to be true though I think. Unfortunately, I have a feeling they'll just be the exclusive camera brand that can do it now just like RED. Hopefully we'll finally see RAW video come to mirrorless and a more affordable price bracket now though.....even if it requires switching to Nikon.
@IanHobday10 ай бұрын
Nikon's argument against the internal raw patent was that it was invalid because RED didn't file it in time. Nikon was right, it's not a valid patent.
@BfoSHIZnats10 ай бұрын
Wow what a move. Just by buying one small cinema camera company they could revoke Canon's ability for internal raw recording since Nikon doesn't need the RF mount, plus they can go after Sony in terms of not buying their sensors and have a new way to compete against the Venice sensors in the cinema space. Getting access to R3D software and their global shutter sensor technology will probably be game changing when Nikon throws more money into it's development for the future. I'm also just happy that more life might have been breathed into my Nikon lenses. If they made a new F to Z adapter that allowed focus pulling of older motorized Nikon lenses through the mount on a Red camera that would be amazing.

An intelligent take on this weird story. I'm a Nikon shooter, and though I may only do a take or two in video, I use Nikon for it's incredible color technology. Nikon bought RED and the only way the value is retained and grows is if that "wholly owned subsidy" continues to be RED.

Nikon have always had great cameras for photography, they did make a couple of mistakes though, they were late to implement a DSLR with decent video capabilities and as I understand it even the D850 while most likely the absolute best DSLR for stills, it's video capabilities were behind Canon, and lastly they didn't see that mirrorless were the future with it's especially great potential for video. That made them come late to the mirrorless party and hence Sony who were a pioneer in that regard on full frame got a leap, then Canon also managed to create a good mirrorless with great video capabilities before Nikon. Now today Nikon has really taken a leap with it's Z8/Z9 and the new Z6 III which in my opinion makes them on par with or maybe even surpassed both Sony and Canon on both stills and video. When they got behind on video and mirrorless was when they got their 'hate'. I love all my Nikon DSLRs I just wish the lottery would be so kind to give me a Z8 ;-)

Great observations but a slight correction and observation of my own. To be clear resolving a lawsuit “with prejudice” does not mean RED “lost” the case. It means that the parties decided to resolve the case amongst themselves and CANNOT come back before the court with the original filed issue(s). As a paralegal of nearly 30 years I take this to mean that Nikon had already approached RED regarding a possible merger/acquisition and it was in all parties’ best interest to resolve the issue because they would eventually end up one big happy family. It could have been resolved “without prejudice” which would have allowed RED or Nikon to come before the court at a future date to litigate the issue for a decision and order…and perhaps appeals and further time and money consuming litigation. RED is notorious at going after any and all parties who try to use their patented technology so why not go after Nikon in the same manner ? Because they wanted a smooth road to some sort of lasting business relationship with Nikon! Yes Nikon really did “win” in the end but so did RED and consumers ultimately. In any event, this is exciting to witness and I hope neither Nikon nor RED drop the ball with this opportunity. Love your content by the way!

But then, I started seeing notifications from some KZbinrs who don't usually ClickBait, so I was like there has to be some truth to it. Being a NIkon shooter, it's absolutely exciting for me to know what they can do with the Z mount lenses. I've been saying all along that these lenses have potential beyond mirrorless bodies. I mean, anytime an F4 Z mount lens has the output of or greater than Nikon's 1.8 & 1.4 F mount lenses, then that's a design that nobody is thinking about. Nikon will have the potential to take the camera world to a planet that we didn't know existed. I could ramble on and on about the possibilities, so I'll stop here... This definitely gives Sony and Canon some compelling reasons to SWEAT a lake! And I'll buy front row tickets to watch 🤣🤣🤣
