This lens was definitely unexpected, but I'm a little disappointed. I was hoping they would announce some compact professional grade F2 lenses. What I'm looking for is a 24 mm f2, 28mm F2 and a 35mm F2. These lenses would perfectly match my ZF bodies and keep everything nice and tight and small, oh well. And yes, if they did come out with these lenses, I would buy them all in a heartbeat.

The fact the 1.8 S 35mm is usually on sale for $699, I would still prefer to pay the extra $100 for a S tier glass

You obviously don't have 35/1.8S lens. It's the most mediocre 35mm I've ever used. I shot with Sony FE 35/1.8, Sigma 35/2, Samyang 35/1.8, Canon RF 35/1.8 -- each one of them is better than Nikon S lens.

I'm hoping this is similar to the original Sigma 35 ART in character. That lens has a wonderful rendering and is plenty sharp. Curious if this is Nikon re-badging a Tamron or better yet, Sigma. When can we expect your long form video?

That's LITERALLY the meaning of that meme. 😂Jesus fucking christ the irony and projection here is higher than Canon's pricing. But it's nothing new that people who don't understand the "burden of proof" concept tend to use fallacies as arguments, it practically goes hand in hand. You're pulling a fallacy by thinking that just because it has been true before, you know for certain that it's true again. That is anecdotal bias and proves nothing in this case. Why wouldn't Nikon be able to make a cheap lens themselves? That question begs to be answered. The difference is that the 17-28, 28-75 and 70-180 were already existing Tamron lenses. Now is it impossible that the 35 1.4 is a Tamron lens? Absolutely not, it's entirely possible which I'm not denying, but it's not something you can assume as a fact just based on previous associations. The burden of proof is on you.

Hi Ricci, thanks for clarifying the positioning of this lens. It’s not for me as I don’t prefer 35mm as a focal length. What I’d really like from Nikon is a 16mm f/1.8 S lens but the Viltrox will have to do for now. Thanks again for sharing info on this new lens!

How about sunstar effect shape when you tighten the aperture and take a night view?? Does it come in a sharp shape like a z35.8s lens??

Honestly, the background blur is nice, but not having bad fringing everywhere is usually more important to the aesthetic.

Next couple of days are right now...please release longer video :D I hope this lens is pretty good, and it would be great if they release couple more of f1.4 primes with the same dimensions and weight...that would be great for videographers for gimbal shoots. :) If it's good enough, I'm buying this... :D

@@loitruong4821 It used to be the same target market: people looking for pro lens in pro build and with pro coating: you go to F1.4. Why Nikon decided to break lens line up tradition and when other brands give out excellent F1.4s, we get F1.8's and budget F1.4's. I also don't understand why people are happy with this. What is wrong with affordable F1.8's and excellent F1.4's? Who ever complaint that this should be turnt upside down? Imagine Nikon launched a high end $2500 70-200 F4 with VR and a cheaper plastic feeling 70-200 f2.8 without VR and with softer corners. I guess everyone would just swallow it and call Nikon genius all over again.

We all knew how imp nikon class leading lense coatings are.. Thats exactly why we buy these branded lense than purchasing thirdparty lenses. Instead of letting third party to make nikon lenses nikon is making its own third party class of lenses. Thats both good n bad. But i wish theycome up with a 1.4S lineup soon which are as good as plenas
