I forgot to mention when using the Nikon Z 180-600mm on the Nikon Z50II you get a full frame equivalent focal length of 270-900mm. It certainly helps get you closer to the action for birds and wildlife. All up, not a bad first day out with the Nikon Z50II. Lots more videos coming as I find out more best settings and other pros and cons I can share. Thanks for watching 🙏

Nice review, cheers Adrian! I will probably grab this body to compliment my Wife’s D500. I already own the 180-600, as well as a 1.4TC. How would 1,260mm work for you out in the woods :)

@@bsc001 phew - that’s some reach! Be great for moon shots
@bsc001Ай бұрын
@@adrianalfordphotography Ha, yes, a pity the Supermoon has come and gone. If you have the 1.4TC, try it, it doesn’t impact image quality much at all on the Z-lenses. I tested it on both the 180-600 and 100-400, and very happy with the results. And that’s on the z8/z9 bodies, where any sharpness loss will be very visible. I might pop in to DownTown Melbourne later this week, Ted’s Cameras have the body on the BF special. $1,500. I hear you on the dx lens, but I already own so many Z-mount FF glass, might rather put that money towards a 400 4.5, let’s see. Look forward to a follow-up review from you!

Great video Adrian. Really appreciate a real live review with Z50II. I own the Z50 with both kit lenses. My only issue with this camera is battery life (just awful) and battery indicator in the camera isn’t very accurate. So I am a bit disappointed to hear the battery life on the Z50II is worse (yikes). I noticed at the beginning of your video; did you have a battery power bank attached to the camera? If you did what brand is the power bank? Also are you going to use a none VR lens with the Z50II. I am curios not have IBIS in camera will be an issue (especially for video). Looking forward to your next video.
@adrianalfordphotographyАй бұрын
Battery life depends on how hard you push the Z50II. If you max it out like I did, it doesn't last that long. But if you did a snap here and there with a bit of video, then it should last longer. No power bank that is a HDMI cable. Yeah non VR lenses won't be the best handheld doing video, definitely need a tripod or monopod in that case. I'll stick to the VR lenses mainly.

Thank you for this video. It's a bit too late to be convinced to buy it, because I've already ordered Z50 II and it should arrive today, but nice to have confirmation it was a good choice. Currently I'm using Zfc and I love this camera, it reminds me my favourite cameras from my analog days and has sensor good enough, to make A3+ or bigger prints. Unfortunately I started with bird photography "more seriously" over year ago and for this kind of photography Zfc's AF is not good enough. I've been waiting for Z90/Z80, but when Z50 II came I decided to preorder it on Nikon site, because of its potential AF improvements. I don't care about more frames per second or sensor stabilization, my Tamron 150-500 has it, for rest of my photography I'm using quite light primes (landscape, people). So Z50 II will be for birds, Zfc for the rest :)

Thank you Adrian for the video. I was thinking of moving from nikon dslr to mirrorless and wanted a good dx sensor option like D500 with Bird eye AF. This one seems the perfect option. However I also have old 200-500mm lens and if you can please hav a small video on this combo as was well as many wildlife n bird photographers might have that lens and would like to try it out. I could also give this combo to my 12 year old son who is coming up well using my old gear.😁

Hi. Good video. I have been wanting a backup camera for my spring trip with my Z8 & this might just be it. I thought Z6 III but after your review I am rethinking things and the crop factor could be easier than setting the Z8 into crop mode, which for birds, I do fairly often with the 180-600.
@hsmphotoАй бұрын
Just send for it as I don't have fortune to spend, and figured at this price point it was a good place to start with mirroreless. Still have the D850 which I figure will still be better for some things, but really want to try out the modern era AF systems, especially on tiny songbirds over here in sweden.
@Gr1ff1D0Ай бұрын
I use the 180-600 as my new primary wildlife and birding lens. Previously I avoided zooms for this sort of thing. I am glad to hear the Z50 is working well at this task. I am not surprised the image quality is good. I do set one of my function buttons on the Z9 to drop on DX crop mode. If a bird is a bit too small, going to DX makes it easier for the AF system. I do need a back up lightweight body as a backup. I will take a look at the Z50ii now. Thanks for the test. I miss the full on action camera features in a DX like the D500. I wonder if they will bring out a full replacement.

I’m totally blown away, with my ZF as well I think either the Tamron 50-400(75-600) or Nikon 100-400 is more practical for me. The z50 II can be paired with a DX 16-50 for a far more compact system over the Z8 which I could afford, but like compactness. With regard to battery shooting video, if using a tripod, monopod the z50 II , does it still record when a powerbank is connected ? Will look into that monopod video & DX 18-140 no doubt in due time . Again fantastic shots!

Hi Adrian. I really like your videos and photos. Could YOU test both cameras: Z 50 and Z50II, and compare the noise they generate. Preferably on some static shots. I wonder if Z50 handles it better. In the last video of Z50 II and 180-600 the photos look less noisy and with nicer colors than in Z50. I read that Z50 II has better contrast and color saturation and I think it is. Could you also talk about it in the next video? Thank you and best regards.

I noticed according to the information on screen that you were shooting at 4K60P and slowing down at 25fps. There would be some temporal distortion with the slowdown. Anyway great photos & video from this little camera! 👍

The question is: is Z50II bird AF better than the Z6III's? I think the latter is the direct competition of the Z50II rather than Z8 and Z9
@adrianalfordphotographyАй бұрын
Z50II has dedicated bird AF, Z6III does not.
@Mixer000999Ай бұрын
Yes, but what reviewers say is that Z6III's Animal AF is good enough for birds. It would be interesting to compare the real effectiveness of Z50II and Z6II bird AF even though Z6III doesn't have a special bird AF mode. It may be a very interesting video @@adrianalfordphotography

Maybe 400/4.5 would be better? It is more expensive though.
@adrianalfordphotographyАй бұрын
I agree re the 400mm F4.5. The Tamron 50-40mm may be a cheaper, lighter alternative.
@starbase218Ай бұрын
@@adrianalfordphotography Actually they're about the same weight if you don't include the tripod collar. And you get f/4.5 with the prime. F/6.3 on DX can be a bit dark I think. But of course, the zoom... zooms! And it focuses closer.

I already have the lens, but that body is missing. I don't have the money for it, but I'll probably buy it before the migrating birds arrive.

Maybe the D500 replacement?
@adrianalfordphotographyАй бұрын
No, I don't think it's the D500 replacement. Close though.

Is the bird AF in this camera better than Z6 iii's Animal AF at tracking birds ?
@adrianalfordphotographyАй бұрын
Z50II has dedicated bird AF whereas the Z6III does not. But maybe that'll come in a firmware upgrade eventually?
@MattisProbablyАй бұрын
,I had a suspicion that it would work well with the 180-600.IBIS, Now picture a proper pro level APS-C body... 30 FPS RAW, around 24-30mp, stacked sensor, IBIS, RAW pre-capture, CFexpress slot, proper weather sealing, 4K60 without the 1.5x crop. If they sold that at ~2000 bucks it would fly off the shelves faster than they could hope to build it.
@nabeeel115 күн бұрын
D500 with 200-500 does the same job in much lower budget.

No. It does not.

Z50? lol Why? I owned one. Static shots are fine. In flight, forget it. The tracking is no where near sufficient.
@adrianalfordphotographyАй бұрын
Maybe before commenting next time you actually look the video or even the thumbnail. This is NOT the Z50, it's the new model Z50II.
