Nikon Z6 for VLOGGING?!? First Thoughts

Good stuff. Any thoughts on how well the autofocus holds up to Panasonic/Canon/Sony? Overall it looked decent, but see it really missed around 3:40. Thanks for sharing this.

Ecuador Live hey! So it seems to struggle at times, I haven’t used any Panasonic’s but I did use canon a long time ago and can’t really speak to that compared to the Z6. Remember too I shot all this in AFC over the last few weeks I’ve been trying the other AF setting and hope to do a little compare soon and just general thoughts. Thanks!

1:18 great autofocus. bought the Z6 today, if i have the same issues i will return it for a Sony. i own multiple Nikon DSLR's.

Great Video Tomas There are many videos about the Z6 by some pretty famous people (Channels) But you really made your video more relaxed and fun to watch (rather than stuffy) I'm not a vlogger but am thinking about the Z6 for my youtube Channel for 4K 10bit with my newly purchased Atomos ninja V so thanks for pushing me into purchasing the Z6 Keep up the Great work best regards, Rick

Impressive at auto mode, stabilization and color is great. That jello effect in some situation for me not a big deal for a vlog, atleast no need for stabilizing in post.

Hello Tomas! I am from Colombia and I don't speak very well English. Can you please explain to what is the meaning of jelly background? a lot off people mentioned that in the comments.

Estando Al Tanto Hi, the “Jello” term means the video has a sort of wavy effect to it like how jello (the desert) would shake, or jiggle on a plate, this usually happens when you have image stabilization turned on but your camera is already stabilized. I hope that makes sense

Video was great bro, didn’t see choppy, the audio was great coming from the camera, the sharpness was great, I would say Nikon did a fantastic job with the z6, loving what I’m seeing video wise from your channel and others on KZbin, can the focusing be improved, yes definitely but I’d say it’s a great start

@@TomasEstrada Glad to hear that! I was almost caught in the KZbinr trap of switching to Canon or Sony.. Glad I pulled myself out haha. I suspect we may see a rise in Nikon users in a couple years as the video capabilities keep increasing over time and people start realizing how capable Nikon is.

Adventure Singh it seems ok. But just ok.. I’ve seen some comparison videos with Sony and Sony seems to be better. I used the rode micro and I think it ok for basic use and works fine for me.

Nice Vid i just scooped one up and im a lil worried bout the AF for Video. Any more thoughts since you posted this Vid?? If it is an issue with the AF ill just use the Z6 for stills and go back to a Panny GH5. Also, thanks for including your personal settings always cool to see others set ups...

Yes I’ve been using it quite a bit over the last few weeks, remember this vid was all AFC I’ve been playing with the other AF setting and finding success with those too depending on the situation, it’s really coming down to know the strengths and weaknesses of each AF setting. Tomas Estrada Ya i would agree i just spent a TON of time testing it to understand the autofocus. There is so much it can do its insane. my conclusion thus far is its an amazing camera with amazing features and “tune ability” but the user better know what they are doing to get the best quality video out of it. Stills pics are still its forte as is Nikon as a company but I think this Camera is going to be a true Hybrid dual purpose Still/Vid system....

How do you see what you are filming if the screen doesn’t flip fully? How did you know when you were walking around that you were in shot? I’m just starting my online Training businesses so I am currently filming myself on an iPhone 7 and need something better.

RBP I shoot pretty wide so I know an arms length I will be in frame. When I get home I use a external monitor so I can make sure I’m in the right spot. Hope that helps

I really need to do an update video but I can try my best to answer this for you.. Ok so this has easily become my main camera even over my D850 mainly because is so compact. The AF is good, however it does miss or is slow to grab focus every now and then. All of my videos since this one have been made with the Z6. Really for me the only thing that still drives me nuts is the missing red light when I am recording. Its been a great camera so far and I have absolutely no regrets going with it! Hope that helps

I noticed a size difference on the screen when switching from U1 and U2, is it a special setting that you are using?

JoacimSc yes unfortunately it does crop in a little bit when shooting 120fps (slow motion) that’s pretty standard and some camera crop in even more which can be bothersome.. thanks for the comment!

Kirk Barker your right I hear it too with headphones, I think it’s the autofocus motor that’s making that noise.

but yeah i was waiting for Z6 Vlogging test. and thank you so much. I was almost buy Canon EOS R because there are No AF-F Face recognization system in Nikon Z6. But now i can little trust of this maybe. also snap bridge with your phone is very convenient while shooting yourself. I went to HQ of Nikon in tokyo to ask these questions but even Nikon Staffs also couldn't answer correctly. do not believe them just believe vlogger i learnt this time.

hozonnyouadoresu thanks for the feedback, totally agree with the “jelly” I noticed it did it when I was hand holding and very still. I used the SnapBridge at the end so I could see myself the face tracking worked well but it was optimal conditions. Now that I’ve been using it all week I’m gonna do some more tests. Just run it like any of us would do! 👊
