What's your favorite setup for filming yourself? I usually use the GH5 on a tripod.

oh, of course one needs to make sure the monitor had mirroring ability to work properly. A few do, but I'm not sure if any 2000 nit one does.

So do you have the camera set to auto focus while recording? I guess I missed that bit but mine seems to be hunting for focus when I do so.

Thank you for this, literally was at the camera store today wanting to get this sorted.

Great Video. I use a budget solution: FTZ Adapter with the cheap, lightweight and completely silent Nikon AF-P Nikkor DX 10-20mm f4.5-5.6G VR. Works well, looks great but obviously less blur.

What is the advantage of using an external monitor vs wireless tethering with your cell phone?

Now, I'm not a vlogger, but considering that people have found ways to vlog with the A7III, which the Z6 is pretty much identical aside from a few specs, it shouldn't be impossible, as long as you know where to look, how to hold and having the "right" focal length. The 14-30 seems like a great vloggin lens, sony users like their 17-35mm. You could get a ND variable filter and use the reflection to get a somewhat idea of how your framing goes. On another note, have you noticed any sound issues with the Deity Mic + Z6? I tried it but had the mic set to max and the camera setting to 8 or even 10 at a arms length to get decent sound. Maybe a short tutorial on how you edit dialog in Premiere (if that is the software you use).

Great advice on the ND filter for framing! I bet putting in aperture priority + selecting the flat profile with some parameters set for the auto ISO would give at the very least decent results with some practice. I find setting the Vmic d3 pro to about 5 with the camera set to 8 has given decent results for voice levels, I don’t really edit the clips audio where I’m using the vmic, just raise or lower volume levels if too high or too low (I use davinci these days). My workflow for editing my main audio stand is a little different though, and I do a good amount of processing in audition but it only takes a few seconds.

If you want some tips on using adobe audition to improve your audio, i did a video awhile back and my process is mainly still the same: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nXOmnnaFjtZ4ptU the only difference being instead of the last two steps of normalize and hard limiter, i use auditions "loudness normalizer" tool to set all the audio at -16 LUFS... but again, I haven't done any of that for the V-mic d3 audio in this video, that was all out of the camera.

Great video. The Z6 with your new super monitor with inbuilt shotgun mike would be a winner.

Hey Tommy, great video! Came here especially to see what you think of the combo z6+Deity D3 Pro. People say Nikon's preamps are really bad and I am experiencing some white noise with this exact combination. Wondering what your camera audio sensitivity settings are plus your Deity D3 gain? How do you get the cleanest audio with the D3 directly recording to the camera?

What settings do you use for audio? Because i always get bad audio... PLEASE HELP

What ND filters and brand do you recommend ? Thank you

Honestly, I use my FX6 for internal ND’s now, but before that I usually used freewell filters.

14 mm distortion is to much. Thinking of buying 14-30 for vlogging should I buy it.

Hello I just wanted to say thank you so much for your video on making the Z6 as a vlogging camera, as I have one and I’m thinking why buy something else and make it work when I’ve got such an amazing camera and amazing lenses. If I’m careful on my boat hah hah, I can make it work!! I actually went to the camera store here in Vancouver and showed them your video and I found the screen you have - can you believe it and it was on sale. I also found a suitable tripod base to hold on to like you showed and yeah your video and everything was awesome ! I had the gorilla pod legs and thought maybe those would work but no they will not and I learned that now! And I can put the mic on the side like you showed so anyways thank you again for sharing I really think that is so helpful & good of you!! :-)

what cold shoe mount are you using for the monitor and mic?

Rather than built in I think a modular solution would be better. Shotgun mic, wireless lav, etc for modules

Why not just use your phone as a monitor? It has a little delay, but all you need is framing and exposure like you said.
