Man that color shift in the lower end in 4K raw. Was hoping they would fix that, but maybe it’s just part of the process that can’t be fixed. I guess the good thing is tho that 4k 24 and 60fps match on the Z6

Totally agree with your conclusion about 10 bit.265 422, hopefully they can fix it with a fw update. As a Z6 shooter, I am hesitant to upgrade until I know this will happen.

Please we need a side by side comparison test for Dynamic range test with A7iv, A7siii & Lumix S5ii. There's one review already on youtube by Tony & Chelsea Northrup. The whole comment section is filled with people telling it's more baised review. these is why i come to you now. Please 🙏

Great video again Josh. I'm still a little disappointed at the flickering and color shifts on the Z6 III. It's almost a perfect hybrid. Let's see what Nikon says about the flickering and color shifts.

Great video. 4K probably uses line-skipping because I've seen some banding and other artifacts in 4k FX mode.

I love that it's 10-bit 4:2:0, as most computers can handle that no problem. 4:2:2 is a struggle for most as most devices don't have hardware acceleration for it.

Thank you Josh for in depth analysis, could you please explain why there’s flickering in shadows in high dynamic range tests in the video , is it a issue with Nikon z6iii only or other brands like canon behave similarly in raw?
@robert_may
@robert_may 3 ай бұрын
@gurpreetsandhar I think you commented on one of my videos about this the other day. Check out @testcams latest video about it as he provides a technical explanation as to what's going on - it's seemingly a problem with the sensor readout regarding black level varying from frame to frame. I'm currently trawling Z6III video footage from various people (hence ending up here) checking to see if I can see it on all the different copies. From my experience it's in every recording format on the Z6III and I've not seen it on any other cameras myself.
@robert_may
@robert_may 3 ай бұрын
@HybridCameraPerspectives Yeah it's definitely worst and most visible at ISO 5000, though it's present at every ISO and becomes more visible as you boost shadows. I've been trying to let some of the bigger channels and sites know about this because as far as I know only myself and @testcams are reporting it on KZbin so far, though currently I've had no response from anyone.

Hey @@robert_may!! Josh was talking about digital flicker thats not available in raw modes. There are couple of deflicker settings on the z6iii and one of those is digital flicker. Ive seen flickering on z8, z9 in raw but it’s not as high as z6iii, it might have something to do with resolution that high resolutions 8k viewed on 4k screens resolution get compressed twice we dont perceive it as as high as on z6iii.. I don’t know i could be wrong..
@robert_may
@robert_may 3 ай бұрын
@@gurpreetsandhar Yeah those deflicker options in theory offset flickering caused by artificial lights, which they usually do by adjusting the timing of the shutter or micro-adjusting the shutter speed. I'm actually surprised they disable those flicker options for NRAW - I don't really see why the micro-adjusted shutter speeds wouldn't be compatible. Sensor readout speed is probably why you'd see more of that in the Z6III anyway, as the sensor in the Z8/Z9 is very fast (I think roughly 4x faster than the cycle time of LED lights here in the UK, which is 20ms), and I think about 3x faster than the Z6III sensor readout. Different recording modes will affect that readout speed though so you might be able to tweak the settings to improve that in some ways 🤔 Unfortunately the black level flicker occurs even outdoors without any artificial lighting, which is what we're seeing in the shadows on footage from the Z6III (and the flicker I can see in this video is consistent with how it looks for me and @testcam's tests).

You're welcome. I'm not sure what's going on there. I compared the Z6III to a few other cameras in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3eZfYudm6qEoq8 FYI, I shot all of the tests in this video at ISO 800. Also, the test next to the window there wasn't any artificial light present. Just the natural light coming through the window.

We have a client who just upgraded to this Nikon and his video files are 10X the size that they used to be. i don't shoot Nikon, so not sure how to help him reduce. Could you possibly suggest a couple of options we could look at? He does not need those massive files for the shooting he is doing.

Thanks for this great video ❤ I’m looking for a camera to replace my A7S III as the photo resolution is a bit too low, and as a long time RED user I’m tempted to go Nikon now as I’m guessing/hoping stuff eventually will trickle down to Nikon cameras. Do you think the Z6 III is a good replacement or would the Z8 be a more comparable option to the A7S III in regards to video and autofocus capabilities? 🫣
