Yes I feel everything you are saying, I've shot Nikon my whole life. I have so much invested its hard for me to switch. The amount of money to jump ship is crazy!! Just fix your equipment Nikon!!! It's been MONTHS, since we've had a decent firmware update. (Z9) we are not talking about you. Send help soon!

Im planing to upgrade this year and sounds like Nikon still in update limbo. Could be that Sony will be my next system (im still on dslr as a driver and second camera fuji mirrorles). Want to wait for Z8 and see what they come up with.

@@airjaff they never focus on software which put them behind competition. Cameras become 100% software driven. Not that they make bad because its top class and well planed but after they finish first version its like it dosnt exist for them anymore. They fix only critical problems very slowly and dont use it as expanding for the platform. Just do it and move on waiting for money. Maybe its lack of qualified software developers. Sony is example of how much you can pull out of software level development.

Nikon is leaving us no choice but to get a Z9 or switch at this point. Some are shooting dual systems which can be just as expensive as making a full switch. I think it’s easier to shoot a Nikon/Sony set up because of the megadap adapter allowing you to change lenses between systems. However Sony’s cameras feel like little bricks in my hand. I just wish Nikon would release something in the next few months that checked the boxes that you just mentioned.

I really hope to see some refresh model with some of these improvements. Its hard to say what is going on with Nikon but we shall see for 2023 as Z6II and Z7II is going to turn 3 years old? I hope Im wrong but time flies!

I read on a blog that the new models won’t be released until fall/winter of 2023. I understand about parts shortages and all, but that’s a really long time to wait! 😲😲

The memory door did ONCE open with me by mistake and I was very surprised; however, it never happened again to be fair. The AF is in desperate need for improvement so are the outdated video specs. I want them to be competitive again in the market which they currently aren't.

Yea, after I read the messages about the door, I tried it and I was surprise it did that. I may have did it once as well after just because I was placing it in my bag while letting my hands go. Either than one incident, I never had much issue. I hope Nikon do become more competitive. 2 years ago I had zero Canon camera. I have 3. the 3 should been a Nikon but I am still waiting. We will see.

Oh yea!~ Z5 will have these issue as well. I really wish the shutter curtain was addressed. Seems simple to do this since it already does it with ejecting the battery out. I believe we are going to see major improvement in the 3rd wave of new models.

It's really unbelievable that a mirrorless camera can't protect the sensor or expose the sensor to the air when the lens is changed. What Canon did in the R6 should already be the standard in the industry. A simple curtain is a great help to keep the sensor clean and it is not that it is impossible to clean the sensor, but you must have the right tools, time and an environment that is as dust-free as possible. Except for the Z9, the rest of the cameras in the Z line look like prototype cameras due to the number of problems they have.

Yup. and I realized over the years, I have cleaned the sensor many times on the Nikon. The canon I havent yet. One day maybe. It is crazy I can still closed the shutter by removing the battery but Nikon dont see this as a need I guess ;\. Hopefully new models will display a shutter curtain when changing lens. Its much needed. ( wish they just make a firmware as to when turning off the camera, the curtain close just like when you release the battery ) . Seems logical to me ;\

I am dying for a z6iii to upgrade out of my 750d to but if they can't get it done soon I'm going to switch. If you were going to leave Nikon for a mirrorless ($2000-$3000) where would you go in 2023?

Here's MY wish list of improvements. On the left side, where the ports are, put USB-C at the bottom instead of the top and make it 3.2 gen 2x2 or whatever the fastest standard is, with fast charging starting at 15W; more wattage=faster charging, up to 100W. HDMI needs to be FULL SIZED. Card door has locking mechanism like Z9 and both Z6 & Z7 use dual CF Express B with dual/backup video recording. Rear screen is 1.5-2M dots on Z6 and 2-3M dots on Z7. Full articulation OR Z9 multi-axis with 90° tilt in all directions would be HUGE. EVF the same resolution but 120Hz on Z6; 5-8M dots but 60Hz on Z7 BETTER AUTO WHITE BALANCE SYSTEM. Preview & Delete buttons should be on right side of screen, not left. Full digital multi-shoe on both cameras. Shutter comes DOWN when off. Faster unstacked read outs to there's at least no banding when shooting stills. 4-8mm taller so my pinky has somewhere to rest; in doing so, the battery compartment has to come down a little and then the MB-N11 is still compatible with this generation. 16-bit still color would be nice, as would the high efficiency algorithm from the Z9. But keep uncompressed option. 10-bit 4K60p 4:2:2 in Apple ProRes and NRAW on both cameras; Z6 goes up to 4K120p, Z7 goes up to 8K30p Expeed 7 because DUH. Burst rates are fine, as is. Same battery is fine or introduce an EN-EL15d. Improved IBIS. 50% more auto focus points for both, covers 95-99% of the image. Auto focus: human body, improved face and eye at further distances and lower light, bird, "beast" auto focus for deer/elk like animals as well as bears and lions, automotive; all are available with selectable box sizes 30-35MP sensor for Z6, 45-55MP sensor for Z7. Same ISO ranges but cleaner performance at higher ISOs. eShutter can go up to 1/32,000. 1/16,000 is fine. I can't think of any more items, so I'll edit if I can think of any other. I feel like with these changes, Nikon could see sales increase, especially from older DSLR adopters than can start fresh on a new system.

Shutter curtain is a fair point. But they shouldn’t mess with the screen. Add another axis to the tilt screen but that’s it. Please no flip screen. Not every camera must be vlogger camera. There are photographers out there as well. :) What they should do is what Sony and Fujifilm have been doing: A high-end hybrid camera for video and sports/action and a high end photo centric camera with high res for studio and landscape and several others inbetween.

Or expand the IO ports so I can flip my external screen. Then again, Sony,Canon,Lumix, fujifilm are converting or already converted to vlog flip screen. Would be interesting to see how Nikon deals in the next phase.

The shutter curtain thing should just be a firmware fix. Dust on the sensor is prime fear with digital photography. People as important as Nikon should put that to the top of their tray. I have been thinking of getting a Nikon Z30 and this has on its own has put Me off. If it is not on that camera I certainly will not buy it. Glad You alerted me to the issue.

Not a problem. I really wish they can just work a Firmware and have the shutter close. The camera can do it at the moment but removing the battery is a hassle. I know folks are always cleaning the sensor at least every time they change the lens in an open environment. I always have a blower which isnt an issue when I use my Canon.

@@theCameraVille In My Pentax K1 the mirror protects the sensor and there are secondary things I can do. I was rather shocked You had to get a Z9 to get this feature at present. I have messaged Nikon. I do hope I get an answer. I already have registered product so They will know I am an existing customer as are You. It will be interesting to see the result. Thanks

This is very sad because this make cameras non interchangeable in places where There is any dust. With video retouching with Davinci Resolve is possible with care and I have done it, but it is a pain.

I think there are now issues about what batteries work with what Nikon cameras... Each report I read means it another complexity... 3rd party batteries are a problem with some newer Nikons and even older official batteries may also have issues.

Man.. I use a lovely Nikon D780, because the Z6II and Z7II sucks, for now! The best choices about Nikon mirrorless are now the Z8 and the Z9, that tough are two very expensive cameras! I want to come in the mirrorless Nikon world, but whether are these the conditions I totally keep trusting in my beautiful Nikon D780 reflex! Cheers! D.

Lol mate the z6ii and the z7ii dont suck at all. The z7ii is an excellent landscape camera and has some of the best files ive seen. Are you going to complain about the AF? it works perfectly for the type of shooting the camera was designed, which is stills and landscape . It seems you expected the z6ii and z7ii to be all rounders that could perform all sorts of types of photography like birds in flight. To me it seems like a judgement error on your side, just buy the camera that is appropriate for your needs. The z6ii is a low light monster and great video capabilities, being 24mp, the z7ii is a stills /landscape slow camera which is ok considering the kind of shooting it was designed for , the z8 is a very fast hybrid camera which will do great in any sort of photography. Nikon is missing some bodies but calling a z6ii and z7ii bad is just non sense, those are the 2 best selling Nikon mirrorless bodies lol

For example if u wanted a landscape mirrorless camera, the a7riv and the r5 cost significantly more than the z7ii, and the end result would be exactly the same. Thats why I reinforce that people should do some research into getting a camera suitable for their needs and wallet

Z6 III has not change to flid LCD in full frame which wating for 15 years, no choice I have switch to Canon camera R8. Nikon hard to earn my money unless changed the LCD setting.

Watch out on the R8. They are using a smaller battery than the normal canon battery. So the LCD will drawn faster on the R8 if that is what you are going for.

@@SurferKroky Jared still talks plenty of shit about Nikon. I mean considering his history he better than most should know that cameras are not built around Af only. I personally dont do video and the autofocus on a z6/z6ii z7 or z7ii works perfect for landscape photography, while many of the other features also are ahead of canon and sony. So bashing Nikon continuously because the AF is not on the same level of Sony or Canon makes no sense.... I mean theres a reason the majority of professional photographers still use Nikon, the data is there for everyone to check it. Also Nikon is slow but the z9 showed they are catching up fast regarding AF speed and accuracy. Lets hope with the new processor and possibly the new z6iii/z7iii or a z8 , it will match the z9 AF

I always wonder that myself. Its version II and sensor still exposed. My Canon R6I dont have this issue either. The shutter shuts when you turn off the camera. Simple fix.
