I own a z9 and in the first year when I bought it, the raws looked grainy at iso 3200 and above. I had to pass them through nx studio and then convert them to tiff 16bit so that they have a smaller grain and the colors on the display, then import them into LR classic for editing. But this work requires a very powerful computer capable of processing 240mb for a single photo. Over time, Lr improved its camera profiles and introduced denoise, which behaves very well. What many people don't know is that the profiles of Nikon cameras are pumped excessively at the sharp level, they must be brought to 0 sharp, -1 medium level sharp, 0 clarity. These parameters will be recognized in Lr even if there are other values, e.g. -4 texture, -8 clarity, sharp 0. The image will give you a better starting point.

Great video dude, I'm a wedding photographer in the UK and I already have the Z8 to work alongside my Z6ii but I will replace the Z6ii with the Z6iii when its out rather than buy another Z8 because I believe it will create cleaner lowlight images, I really don't need 45mp and it will be lighter and smaller than the Z8. It cant come soon enough! Come on Nikon give us the Z6iii it will be your biggest seller !

Z9 and Z6II owner here and hoping the Z6III has AF similar to Z8/Z9 with the clean images i get from my Z6II. How do you edit your Z8 photos? I find myself needing topaz denoise on 80% of my Z9 shots- where LR works fine for my Z6II shots unless i get to 8000 or higher iso.

I had enough waiting for the Z6iii. I just bought the Z8. I used D750 and D780, i never had a mirrorless camera (except from the Z6-like liveview of the D780) and i need a sufficient time to get used to the new body. May was my deadline, so, i couldn' t wait more, i can' t just work with a camera that drops after the season start (i am mostly a wedding and event photographer). Z8 has a very good promotion right now (same price as in Black Friday that we all waited for the Z6iii launch), so i did it and i think i bought a veeeery serious and powerfull camera (that i haven' t used in the field yet).

I'd just like to see and compare them side by side but I still believe that i could buy z6iii later as my second body.

Hi Frames - I've been saying August now for a while - after all, it is the actual 4 year mark from the announcement of the Z6II, and I think Nikon wants to get back to refreshing cameras every 4 years with decent firmware updates along the way to keep them relatively current across the lifecycle - just as Z9 has done. The only thing making me think this might not be the case is that Nikon just put the Z8 and Z7II on sale for a substantial discount (here in the US - don't know about elsewhere) and this sort of thing often indicates an upcoming release - so it is still possible they will announce/release in the May/June timeframe - but I think it is 50/50 at this point and I still would not be very surprised if it ended up being in August. At this point, I don't think August would be that bad IF and ONLY IF the Z6III is a killer camera. It should surpass expectations on many fronts and be the clear best hybrid camera in the $2500 and less market hands down across all brand, and be updatable through firmware to stay very relevant no matter what the Sony A7 V ends up being. If this is the case, then waiting till August will ultimately be fine. On the other hand, if the Z6III ends up just being good, but not better than expectations then I think it is already late as you suggest and this would be a bad thing for Nikon. Since Nikon has made all the right moves since the release of the Z9 in 2021 with respect to cameras and lenses, I am inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt (they've earned that I think) and say that they have a good plan for Z6III and that it will be a class leading camera for at least 2 years after its launch. Interesting… the Z8 discount could also be in anticipation of R5II and Nikon could be wanting to put a Z8 in as many hands as possible and by doing that they will also boost lens sales… but I still think that the Z6 is going to come out earlier since it’s really affecting Nikon in some markets

Nikon is moving to Slow on the APSC camera's and lens. Those cameras in the DSLR days were updated every 2 years. The pro cameras were updated every 4 years. If Nikon is changing their Cycle they need an update that allows the Z6iii to best the Sony and Canon competing camera's. Nikon needs a bold Z6iii. I hope it has a really fast sensor 33mp would be a sweet spot. I have a Z8. Nikon I'm looking to replace my Z6ii with a camera that has that same or better focusing that my Z8.

Indeed, and I'm increasingly thinking the Z6III will need to be more than just the retro ZF in a different body - competition is already strong, and now we have rumours swirling that Canon might be about to release an R6III, and Sony probably aren't far away from an A7V.

I feel for those with a Z6ii and still waiting for a Z6iii. I was one of them. I didn’t get a Z9 when it came out (which with the benefit of hindsight I should have as soon as it was available). But I waited patiently for a Nikon mirrorless that could give me an acceptable % of in focus images in a MP camera that was sufficient for my requirements. A Z6iii). Then the Z8 came out and I got one of the first available in the uk. Best decision I’ve made in many years! Upgrading from the Z6 to the Z6ii was a big disappointment. I naively thought firmware upgrades would fix the Nikon AF issue. Upgrading to the Z8 was not. I do hope the patience (which I don’t have) for the Z6 and Z6ii users is finally rewarded by an outstanding AF beast in a small low iso package

What kind of work do you do? I still have a Z7 and thought of grabbing a Z7/6 II if they become cheap. I am pure amateur hobby photographer. So I do not depend on my camera for income. Also I mostly do landscape photography where the focus seems to work ok. But I think sometimes the focus on my Oly EM1 II is at least comparable to the Z7... even though it is 2 years older and cheaper (500$ used 1 year ago). Than with M43 you have "double the focus" anyway... so maybe it is less prone to wrongly focussing.

@@Fuchs85DE I depend on my camera getting in focus shots for my livelihood. And when I was using a Z6 and a Z6ii I would have to overshoot (by which I mean take more shots of the same thing) because even in a well lit portrait session 2 out of 5 shots could be slightly out of focus. Not every time but enough to cause anxiety. I mostly shoot people and my career has been mostly press photography but in later years it’s more corporate and often press related. So a typical example is an awards ceremony when you get a few seconds to grab the shot. Now with a Z8 I know 90%+ of the shots will be in sharp focus. With the Z6 and Z6ii if I only shot 3 shots of someone there’s a good chance not one would be in pin sharp focus. And that won’t go down well with the client. In your case, from what you say about the photography you do, I would suggest not to bother upgrading. If your Z7 is working fine there’s absolutely no reason or advantage to get a Z7ii.

I agree Nikon should have never released the Z6 or II with the unusable focus, I rented a Z9 for a night time wedding event for this Cinco De Mayo and it is a "Weapon", Focus even on old AF-S F type lens with adapter was accurate, pitch black dance floor with dj lights focus nailed without a hiccup. Nikon has the technology it's up to them if they want to shake up the world or piss it away.

I hope you’re right about an imminent announcement. Nikon is currently offering the Z8 at a big discount through May, and I’m thinking I may go that route if we don’t get a Z6iii announcement before the sale ends, even though I’d prefer the smaller size of a Z6.

if you look back at the dates when the z6, z6II were released, you will find that both were released at the end of the year, so we still have to wait, because the z6III is not a professional camera for the Olympic games to be released now. I think that the Z6III will have many of the zf specifications because on the innovation side, Nikon hasn't really brought anything new since the z9, other than some somewhat interesting specifications for a 5-year-old reused sensor (z6II on the Zf). They have lagged behind the competition, Sony has real time af I think since a9 and Nikon has not managed to implement this until now. I tested Zf and I really liked them raw, but they don't sit well in the hand, everything is cramped, as a result I even felt in the photo that the device tends to heat up. In low light, I heard that the display has a lag (the image jerks), they limited it to 273 af points because they were aware that it would heat up at a processing higher than 493 points. In focusing, it fumbles in low light, which is embarrassing for an Expeed 7.

Leica and Sony- Leica for my daily walkabout camera/personal work for its character and form factor. Sony for professional work/my day job when I need all the modern features. Both great, but managing two separate systems has led to small gaffs like uncharged batteries, forgotten SD cards, etc. The Zf is as unassuming as the Leica when I’m at the grocery with my kids, but as robust as I need it to be when we head to a sporting event. Satisfied so far! Thanks for engaging. 🙏

I'm upgrading from my z6ii immediately. And yes.. you are correct... we love just talking about all this stuff because its fun and exciting.

Hi Frames. Given the recent significant discounts offered on the Z9, Z8, Z7ii and Z6ii, I speculate that Nikon is trying to reduce their in-house inventory prior to the release of a new camera. I'm one of those hoping for a Z7iii AND a Z6iii. I would be interested in the Z7ii to compliment my Z8 and Z9. The Z6iii really doesn't interest me (I think I'm probably a resolution snob.). The speculation that such an announcement would come prior to the Olympics makes sense to me, so probably late May to sometime in June 2024.

This Z6iii for sure will be a higher megapix camera! Reason why Nikon slashed prices of the Z7ii but not as much on the Z6ii, it means the higher Megapix count of the Z6iii will directly compete with the Z7ii..so Nikon slashed big time on Z7ii market price.

A fair conjectural analysis of Nikon launches, various discounts point to a release relatively soon. However it won’t be this week or we’d have seen it on Nikoshita via Nikon Rumours or something like that. Like the rumour of Canon R5 II ,it could be closer to the Olympics. As I now have a Z f , hopefully Nikon didn’t for the Z7 line for those who want 45mp without z8 heft.

The Canon release is heavily rumored to be on May 14 and the Fuji Summit is May 16th so a Nikon release should be before or after that. I think Fuji is much smarter to leak details and get the hype going. We already have a "leaked" image of the X-T50 and pretty much all of the specs. I am eagerly awaiting the Z6iii specs to see if it will replace my Zf. The main problem I have with the Zf is that cursed flippy screen bugs me more and more the longer I own it. It definitely detracts from the user experience so I am kind of hoping the Z6iii will check all of the boxes. I also hope they will put a physical remote shutter release option on the Z6iii, but I have little hope for anything but bluetooth in the lower tier cameras now.

Due to Nikon acquiring Red the z6iii probably gone back to the drawing board for newer tweets..my take is probably we will see a better video capabilities on the z6iii..it will not be better in terms of photography or probably just little tweet which will not be better then the z8 or the zf...all comments are just my speculation and guess

I think the Red Acquisition pushed the Z6iii launch out a few months. Now you have all the Canon camera launch hype. Nikon is moving really slow moving the Expeed 7 technology down to the prosumer and APSC camera. Canon will have Mark ii versions of their APSC cameras out before Nikon address the Aging Z50. The Canon R6 Mark II should be surpassed by the Z6iii.

I shoot RAW but with back ups in jpgs. I subscribe to FujiXWeekly but curious what you might be able to share on crafting unique color jpgs for the Zf.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. How do you think colour grading will go with a Z6iii and a Z8? I edit in DaVinci, but my videographer partner edits in Premiere Pro. I’m trying to work out whether to get a second Z8 or wait for the Z6iii. I’ll get another Z8, if the Z6iii is going to make matching clips more difficult. I had that issue with the Z6ii and Ninja V, and such a pain to get clips to match.

Nikon should understand that the z6iii should hold up to 2028. The specs should be relevant up to 4 yrs hence it should have a complete internal redesign. New sensor and a processor that will have enough headroom for the years to come to compete with sony when sony updates its bodies where nikon will only focus on firmware. Maybe Exspeed 8 will launch with the Z9ii but I wish the z6iii has it cz even if Exspeed 7 is fast and getting cheaper, the chip is getting very old.
