On my Z6 iii, electronic shutter effects are very hard to notice in most real life scenes. I've only noticed it with a fast pan of a bicycle race -- the racers were sharp at 1/2000 second and looked good, but the background buildings had a small slant or tilt of their vertical lines, from the top to bottom scan of the frame. The same panning when they were at a 45 degree angle to me was fine, since the background movement was slower. I use Electronic shutter most of the time now.

Very interesting. I like the unintended effect (affect?) from an artistic standpoint. I'll have to look back in previous videos to see if you've tried this experiment with mechanical shutter at varying shutter speeds. Thanks so much for your always thought provoking videos.

Thanks a lot for your kind feedback.

Simple and clean tests...although I would test this via a remote or use a timer to absolutely eliminate any movements.

Oh. Genius idea. Everyone else is either shaking the camera left to right recording a Video or use Golfer / Baseballer as subjects. This is a really smart Idea. I think you are right though. Most objects out in the field will not need a shutter this fast.

Thanks Eugen, this fan is really super-fast and the distortion on the rotors when shooting with the Z8 is a really good result. The Z6III is definitely faster than the Z7II but not a real match for the Z8 ... in real life though the Z6III will do well since hardly anything moves as fast as these rotors in small circles :)

Rolling shutter effects are a bit less apparent with longer shutter speed, because they get mixed up with the motion blur. Could you please try this experiment also with shutter speed for example 1/4000 s, which is short enough for most real-life scenarios?

Wonderful examples. Although not in my future, for edification, I wish you had used a leaf shutter from your Hasselblad collection and a Sony global shutter in this WONDERFUL rolling shutter discussion. Thanks again for an outstanding and educational video.

Question is there a difference in image quality between the two shutter modes especially in RAW?

Well done! Share it to Nikon.

I am happy with my Nikon Z8 for bird photography. The speed of flapping wings is quite high and I don't want to see deformed or fragmented wings.

The Z8 is a fantastic sports & action camera, I am very happy with mine too.

What happens if you use the mechanical shutter on the Z6iii?
@mathphotographer5 ай бұрын
It will freeze the rotor movement well if the shutter speed is fast enough. When I showed in the video the comparison Z7II vs Z9, the first screenshot showed the Z7II with mechanical shutter which did freeze the rotors in movement without flaws.
@lawrose45 ай бұрын
@@mathphotographer , so is there a lesson in that?
@np70605 ай бұрын
@@lawrose4 The fastest mechanical shutter speed of Z6iii is 1/8,000 which may or may not be fast enough depending on the subject and shooting parameters.

I use only mechanical! And never use electronic shutter

Witch mode did you use you've got two electronic shutters and one mechanical shutter

it looks like the z8 has slower read out than the z9
@KK-ol5ov2 ай бұрын
Yeah, I would expect the z8 and z9 to have the same results.

No difference in outcome and results.

@RimantasLiubertas5 ай бұрын
Take a look at the specs, check out the readout speed difference and save yourself 15 minutes.

Experimenting with the fan was fun :) But if you know what Nikon specified as read-out time for the Z6III (I am not aware they mentioned), could you pls share here the specs if you know them?
