Great vid. I have the Z6 and the menus seem identical. I especially love the programming buttons on the front. On my Fn1 and Fn2 buttons, I programmed Fn1 to magnify 200% and the Fn2 to view previews. It is awesome how you can easily hit Fn2 to preview your last picture then hit Fn1 to magnify the preview or use Fn1 to magnify the item you are photographing with Fn1, all without moving your eye from the camera.

ISO plus front command dial changes auto ISO on and off. Also joystick has auto exposure lock when you press in the middle. These are available at default settings

5:37 - On page 77 in the manual (get the Z7Z6RM_(En)02.pdf manual from the Nikon USA site) the ISO can be set using the Command dial. However, to switch between Auto ISO and just normal ISO (where you set it) use the Sub-Command dial in front by your shutter finger.

Hi Jared, Thank you so much for doing this. A lot of the menus, starting with the intervelomentor and not functional. Hi Jared, I liked like your videos. In my humble opinion, Nikon suffer of a great lack of customisation options. For example: - Missing EasyISO (like the d750); - focus mode changed is more slow to control (see again d750; - pad and joystick have similar function (or same) and are not customizable; - with the (external) flash turned on, it's not possess to use the exposure preview; - etc. I checked last canon mirrorless customisation and noticed the incredible number of features. Maybe all of this is not needed by many, but there would be better for all to have the possibility to change and choose the perfect ergonomic of buttons and gears. Ergonomic is an essential feature for a camera, and the Z are not so good to me. On the field this can make the difference, and can avoid loosing important shoots (just imagine wedding and reportage photographers). I'm trying to spread the word, so Nikon engineers can ask the photographers what they really need next time. I would really like to have your opinions, as well as for the expertise in the matter, also because you use more types of cameras. Thanks in advance.

I updated my z7ii to 1.50 firmware but my aperture and shutter speed lock says will not allpw me to turn off in cameras current setting or state. Any recommendations on what I'm doing wrong. I need to shut that off.

Raw uncompressed its always better because if the card or the file itself is damaged it is easier to recover the data than when you shoot raw compressed and on the other hand it takes processing time to compress and uncompress by the camera and also by the pc

You shoot in Raw uncompressed? That makes no sense. All it does is slow down your write speeds and give you less images per card.

With an SD card the write speed would be important. Since the XQD has twice the write speed and the coming Cfast are even faster uncompressed RAW isn't a concern. It actually slows the camera down having to compress the files.

michael mckee well XQD is much better than SD but I wouldn’t say write speed isn’t a concern. The Z7 doesn’t have a very deep buffer. And tests do show slightly more FPS compressed than uncompressed. Looks like the data pipeline to the card is the limiting factor, not the processor capacity.

@@markhedges2538 You're right, the buffer isn't very deep on the Z cameras, but that's not a card related limitation. Z cameras don't reward the person wanting to do video (or spray and pray) style shooting with stills. Since I almost never shoot bursts of more than 5-10 shots, the good side of the story is that the buffer clears almost instantly, and very quickly when maxed, and when I touch the shutter again, I can start with an empty buffer. No waiting for seconds for it to clear when filled. Good to know about compressed. I'll switch my settings back.

@@michaelmckeept yeah it's probably not that much of an issue. Especially on Z6 (which is what I have). I'm pretty sure the buffer is the same physical size as Z7 but it of course does better since the file sizes are much smaller.
