Nikon Z7 Vs Z7ii: Epic Showdown Of Eye Autofocus Technology

Even with the (OG) Z7 after a certain distance weather its the eye or the face, its all going to be in focus because of how DOF works in relation to the distance from the subject. Both cameras perform great, but once you get a camera with the Expeed 7 processor (Z9, Z8, Zf) it’s hard to go back 🤣. Great job SJ!

Yea you right about the DOF and being in focus after a set amount of distance. Thanks for dropping that, cause I didn’t in my vid! I have used that z8 very slightly and I wanted to get one when I did! That focus system is a Night and 4 days difference compared to that z7 lol! My bad for the late reply!

I personally don’t think it’s better because i love megapixels! But the z6ii is more than enough camera to get the job done!

Before I switched to Sony I had the OG Z6 and for portraits the I autofocus worked great but when I wanted to start adding a little action into the photos it just missed all the time even at high shutter speeds. So I was going by the z7ii but I waited over 6 months for a pre-order and decided to go with Sony. I am not regretting the switch because the autofocus is phenomenal but I do miss those beautiful colors Nikon does straight out of the camera. I think Nikon has come a long way since the original Z6 and z7. I know that setup was Heavy with the atomos ninja and the big battery attached to it with the sigma 105 mm. I tried that at a photo shoot and my arm got tired and I got some pretty good size hands and arms it just was getting a little wobbly. You could see the footage from the Atomos was all shaky. Yea I understand your switch cause my second camera is a Sony and it beats my z7 silly lol! The Nikon colors is what keeps me with Nikon I don’t think I’ll ever switch far as a primary photo camera! Yea that footage from the ninja tells the whole story about how heavy that setup is lol! I have since then improved my hand placement when shooting with that setup!! I appreciate your support

Anyone know how the z7ii compares to Sony third gen when it comes to moving subjects/sports for photos? I really don't want to spend a couple hundred to rent one.

I can tell you this I never used any of my Sony for sports shooting, but I did use my Nikon z7 to shoot basketball it got the job done but it’s was a struggle! With that being said the my Sony a7r3 AF is far more better than the my z7 and the Sony is an older camera! I think the only Nikon camera that can keep up with the Sony camera are the newer cameras with the newer processors!

Trust me I understand, I love Nikon files over Sony any day of the week! I with you tho I’m still holding out on some type of announcement about the z6 and z7 line up! Before I make a decision on getting a z8

Love the Z8, but kinda want them to fit it into a Z7 sized body cuz it's so nice to be able to carry something smaller for a change. I mean I switched out from DSLR for something smaller after all!

From what I can see, it has big eye tracking problems even with a static model. I just watched a clip in which a basketball player was photographed, out of 50 pictures 40 were in fog. I have a Nikon d750 and somehow I was hoping that I could choose all Nikon, but the only solution in the end is all Sony. Unfortunately. I think the Z9 has AF tracking like the Sony a7iii from 5 or 6 years ago

Yea you actually make good points! But I think you harsh on the z9! I have a z8 and it’s miles better than both z7’s! But what type of photography you shoot?

@@SJSquarePhotos I exaggerated a little with the z9, it's true. Event photography, where there are many low light situations and the AF is put in difficult situations, outdoor photo sessions and product photography for jewelry. I'm a bit disappointed with Nikon, I would have liked to stay in the ecosystem without choosing the z6iii. I need more MP than 24. The Z8 is very expensive, at least for what it offers, especially since there aren't that many other lens manufacturers for them that do an equally good job but much cheaper. It seems to me that the Z7ii really struggles to maintain focus. I really like the colors from Nikon, I wouldn't have wanted Sony, but their AF is amazingly advanced compared to Nikon, at least the Z7ii.

I totally agree with on some point! But I don’t think the z8 is too expensive, I think for what it offers it’s priced well! I do agree the z7ii AF is equivalent to Sony a73 but the Sony still wins in that comparison! I think for what you shoot the nikon z7ii can work, that’s if you want to stay in the Nikon system! And third party lens are coming there’s a few out right now! If you can’t wait you can always adapt lens to the z mount!

@@SJSquarePhotos are you confident in the adapter w all the weight of the sigma 105. any issues? I think it's rated for like 1.3kg or so. I have the 40 1.4 but I feel more confident holding the kit by the lens itself. Seems you are fine with the even heavier and longer 105 tho.
