If it really changes your body's pH you would have to make the ER your new home

God, I feel that. My mom is convinced that cooking vegetables increases the carbohydrates in them and destroys nutrients. There is, of course, some research showing that some nutrients are lost during heat treatment, but that's all offset from the fact that cooking the vegetable makes it easier to digest. She keeps saying that some raw vegetables are "keto". I am absolutely certain she just likes eating salad and is matching hearsay diet advice on facebook to that, which at the end of the day is fine - she's eating vegetables and not doing keto or anything like that - but it's a bit cringe to listen to.

@@Sarahbryson321 Type 2 diabetes is a form of diabetes that is typically preventable and begins during adulthood. In Type 2 diabetes, insulin production is decreased and cells are also insulin resistant. It's typically caused by a combination of genetic and lifestyle factors (obesity, exercise, diet, etc.). This is in contrast to Type 1 diabetes, which is an unpreventable autoimmune disease where the immune system attacks the cells that make insulin.

I posted this somewhere else but just though it was relevant to solve the confusion. I just think there seems to be a misunderstanding between the terms 'alkaline' and 'alkalizing'. Lemon juice is not alkaline, but when your body breaks it down it creates byproducts that your body absorbs, and those byproducts just so happen to be alkaline. I also do not think that alkaline water cures diseases. I google searched 'are lemons alkaline' or something and quoted what it said. I will find the original source and link it here. To those that say something along the lines of 'your stomach produces acid so why doesn't that harm you' it's because your stomachs job is to metabolize food with the acidic digestive fluids. It is designed to be a container for that fluid and to keep it seperate from your body while filtering out and absorbing the byproducts and nutrients. Those nutrients do end up in the body and bloodstream. I hope this cleared everything up. Wish you all the best. Edit: Just thought its worth mentioning that a certain food is given a certain score based on how alkaline the byproducts are. As I've mentioned above, this kind of score is called a PRAL score. However, the score a substance gets when you test its inherent alkalinity/acidity (right on the spot, no metabolizing) is called its pH. These are different things. Also, the main purpose of keeping acidic substances from reaching your kidney is because your body has to borrow alkaline material from elsewhere in the body (i.e bones, teeth for calcium) to neutralize the acidic ones. If this happens enough this can lead to lots of health problems (i.e arthritis, other diseases possibly but I'm not 100% sure on that). This is why people say alkalizing foods can prevent various diseases. (it's not that alkalizing foods cure diseases, it's that not consuming enough alkalizing foods causes them, so the logic is that consuming alkalizing foods can restore the balance and 'cure' the diseases you have that are a direct result of not having enough alkalizing food in your system)

Urine is acidic, so one could say that urine will raise the pH of the ocean, because you're adding more acidic stuff to it. However, because the amount of urine is small compared to the entire ocean, the pH will only change by a fraction of a fraction, if at all. Another way to think about it is "if you put soda in the ocean, will the ocean turn into soda?" Obviously no, because that's not how it works. Same principle with acid

For those watching in 2022 like me, there have been some updates on how extracellular acidity from that lactic acid waste prevents our anti-tumor immune cells from doing their job and making tumorous cells undergo cell death. It seems to be a defense mechanism of the T cells to stop themselves from denaturing due to excess acidity, as well as a way to stop these T cells from attacking non-harmful cells. The excess protons from the acid cause a GPCR signaling cascade leading to a ligand binding to these T cells that prevents them from acting. However, tumor-bearing mice given sodium bicarbonate had a decreased expression of this ligand and more neutralization of tumor tissue. That's just one large study from 2020 though. That's not to say any of these crazy claims Nile shows in the video are right. They're WAY out of left field, far from the science that's actually related to acidity and cancer. But I figured I'd share this tidbit I happened to find for a class project! Fuck pseudoscience. @RBuckminsterFuller
@RBuckminsterFuller 5 жыл бұрын
@@atourdeforce The very definition of an acid is a molecule which likes to give away hydrogen. If it no longer has a hydrogen to give away then it is no longer an acid. If something sour becomes a base then it's only because a different molecule received that hydrogen and became an acid. For a reaction with an organic carboxylic acid (such as citric acid), the formula goes -COOH + B(-) -> -COO- + A(+). In this case, the citric acid turns into citrate and the whole system becomes more acidic.

@@atourdeforce The citrate does not increase net pH because it was created through the donation of a hydrogen to the system (your body). In order to convert citrate back to citric acid it would need to take that hydrogen back and you would end up with no net change. This does not happen because of the chemical equilibrium. Regardless, the only thing you need to know is that adding acid to a solution will lower pH, making it ACIDIC. There are no exceptions.

A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy." "Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed with nutrients." The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree. The lesson: Bullshit can get you far but won't let you stay there. Snake oil is similar.

Hello! Biology student here. I saw the part about lactic acid and can't help but interject: Lactic acid is actually a by-product of anaerobic respiration, which is what cells do to release energy when the oxygen supply cannot meet the demand (our muscles cells actually do this a lot when we exercise, which is why our muscles will feel sore after prolonged exercise. It's the accumulation of lactic acid in the tissue fluid) Anyways, since cancer cells are a lot more active than most other cells (cause they divide uncontrollably), their oxygen demand is usually much higher than normal cells, which means they will use anaerobic respiration to release energy, producing lactic acid as a by-product. The part where lactic acid promotes growth of blood vessels is actually true for *all other cells* as well, since having lactic acid in tissue fluid means the cells there aren't getting enough oxygen, and it triggers angiogenesis, which literally means forming new blood vessels. The thing is, lactic acid isn't even the major chemical signal that cancers use to promote growth of new blood vessels, so, *shrugs* Holy moly this was a long comment. Anyway I hope whoever reads this can learn something new :)

You aren't going to 'lighten their load', they just do what they do all the time. When toxins get concentrated in the kidneys to the point they shut down... THEN you have a problem. That shouldn't happen unless the kidneys are malfunctioning, you get poisoned, or you have another underlying illness than floods your body with toxins. Since you are healthy enough to type your comment, it is safe to say your kidneys are nowhere near overloaded with toxins, so dialysis will do nothing at all for you. When you start looking like a Simpsons character... then it might be a good time to look into it :)

I think in the future we won't have two kidneys, like everything in our body we no longer use it will probably slowly fade away generation by generation, there's already plenty of things like that in our body. It's got to the point where if I hear the words "Natural" or "Detox" I just die a little inside. I recently came across red light therapy which supposedly gives energy to your body because the low wavelength light can penetrate deep into your skin and reach more of your cells. Because humans can photosynthesise, right? The weirdest thing is, every part of that first sentence is correct other than the giving energy part (and even if it could, how would it help? We eat and breathe to get energy). There are even forms of light therapy that *do* help with certain things, most commonly SAD (seasonal affective disorder, which ironically given the acronym, is a kind of depression which occurs seasonally in those who otherwise are fine). Edit: could people maybe stop explaining to the person who said there are forms of light therapy that work (i.e. me) that there are forms of light therapy that work? I do not need examples, I already know about them, hence I was able to say that they exist.

Worth mentioning that in sufficiently advanced cases of type 2 diabetes, pancreatic beta cells start to "burn out" and die from trying to push out insulin faster to overcome the body's insulin resistance. So, someone who has been type 2 for long enough might eventually produce as little insulin as a type 1 diabetic. This does generally take years, or even decades of poor glucose control, though.

Actually there is a reaction between baking soda and citric acid which is well known to enhance muscle fatigue for short periods of time (a few minutes) and its because baking soda and citric acid react to form sodium citrate and CO2, and sodium citrate is what enhances muscle fatigue and aids in spending that last bit of energy in the gym but it’s also dangerous if too much is consumed. Basically lemon soda isn’t nonsense, also it aids in dental health because it neutralizes the acids that bacteria make between teeth that can damage teeth.

Some people nowadays are so used to allowing paradoxes and contradictions into their life that they'll start to believe anything even if it goes against common sense. He also talked about how some people like to take a small, relative truth that's nuanced and conditioner and stretch it and claim it to be an absolute truth. Conspiracy theorists, Gwyneth Paltrow, health influencers, they're all people who took a small truth and decided to stretch it without fully understanding it and lead their lives around it.

Only distillation could completely purify the water, so water filtration is beneficial everywhere.
