Sometimes adapting a book word for word is actually a sign of a bad adaptation. The goal should always be to keep the intention and quality of the original intact. After all, film is a different medium. The plot will have to be modified because the length of a film is very specific. Plus, there’s a lot of rules films have to follow in terms of pacing and plot that just don’t matter as much for a novel.

I haven’t seen many people talking about this but the facial expressions in this movie are hysterical, particularly with Ballister. I couldn’t stop laughing watching him react to the chaos around him.

I do like the movie adaptation, but I do wish the plot point about the scientist making the device that drew power from magic was also in the movie. In the graphic novel, there was a scientist who made what was essentially an infinite power source by making a machine that turned the invisible field of magic into usable power. As a result, the device also weakens magical entities, including Nimona. It would've made the movie have much higher stakes if the Director got a hold of that machine and tried to use it against Nimona against the wishes of the scientist who made it.

Eh I feel like that would take away from the comedy early on though From what I see the reason there was never much fear or tension till late on was because we saw the world through Baldwin, who whilst he definitely had more on his plate then ambrosius or the other knights, he had no idea of the suffering Nimona was going through. It's like when Nimona goes through her heartbreak the rose tinted glasses come off

The character relationship dynamics feel LOADS more natural than most other modern media, kudos for that! As about the different plots of Webcomic and Movie -- as an Avid AU-Fic Reader, I feel like the Movie did AU presentation on those moments of difference, and gave me even more inteterest in finding myself a way to get e-book copy of original Nimona(don't really have ability to get printed books RN, so e-book stores are the way to go)

The drawing came out so cutee!! I love how expressive it is, you can really tell the bond between them! Im definitely gonna check out the movie and the book, ive been wanting to read a graphic novel for awhile and it seems so interesting!

@@nataliaramirez1290 the audiobook follows the graphic novel very closely, so it is different than the movie. To me, the books feel like they're more about the situation, kind of anti-fascist. Whereas the movie feels more of a personal tale about acceptance within a backdrop of xenophobia. I like all the versions, but I think the movie's version of the tale suits me best.

the different direction of the move adaptation actually now reminds me more of the Scott Pilgrim movie adaptation. Both have the same characters and plot/character motivators as their original book, but the movie takes a different run with the actual story they go through. and both KICK SO MUCH ASS in their own way, despite the changes. nimona is so good im dying of peak fiction overdosage

My best friend introduced me to the novel back in 2021 when we first met. It’s a pretty important thing to me because of that. I still haven’t read the entire book but I absolutely adore what I have seen lol. And the movie, don’t get me started on the movie! It was incredible and fantastic!!!! Ehhhhhhh!!! I just love the entire Nimona “franchise “ Also we could always use more LGBTQ rep lol

oh my god i was watching this video to see other people who had read this comic, and when you said this comic and “anya’s ghost” were huge inspirations my heart jumped because those were my two favorite books when i was younger. so weird to have someone who experienced those two comics in the same way but its honestly awesome.

So speaking of graphic novels... There's two I've read that i would HIGHLY recommend you read if you haven't already. Those being Hilo and Amulet. They have somewhat similar pacing and both get progressively darker as they go on, but they're both great reads!

My Brother was talking about this movie after I saw Across the Spider-Verse and I enjoyed the trailer... Then I decided to look up the comic, *yes it is different but that wasn't what surprised me* I saw the art style and I was like "has this creator done a Modern AU of LOTR..." And sure enough Nimona and Bro Fellowship of the Ring was the same Person and I was so happy!!!

It helps immensely and you end up saying way less "ums and uhs" but it does take a bit of getting used to to read scripts while sounding natural. But you'll get better at that over time

I loved the movie. I actually have a copy of the graphic novel that ND signed for me at a con. Unfortunately it's a first edition, so uh... wrong name. I really want to buy a new copy in the hopes of getting that one signed one day too. (I've also got a framed, signed Lumberjanes issues, but replacement copies of that particular cover variant start at about £30, so I'll just have to live with that one.)

I read an excerpt of the novel in my Florida textbook for 7th grade, and they deadnamed ND Stevenson. I know Florida is a transphobic state, but really? This is like putting “All boys aren’t blue” and deadnaming the author. I know Nimona is good, but imagine putting a queer novel in a transphobic state and deadnaming the author. Stupidity at its finest.

Honestly, I rather hate the movie. Goldenloin's design is vastly different and I hate how boring his character seems, I had read the graphic novel in Middle School, and I actually rather hate the changes to the world itself. In the comic the world is more focused on the fantasy vibe and the tech aspect of the world is very hidden and blends nicely into the world. The movie itself changes the world to be more... sci-fi and futuristic in appearance, and I'm pretty sure they didn't have iPhones in the comic. The entire reason Ballister was marked as a villain was a different reason in the comics. This is just my opinion.
