Nintendo did the exact same thing with Minecraft. The Mario mashup pack came with some Mario skins, and you can only use them inside a world with the pack installed, and multiplayer only works with other Switches on the pack, no cross platform.

The thing is Epic didn't come to agreement, they need to agree with Nintendo's terms if they wish to get Nintendo characters into Fortnite just like how Sony and Microsoft got Master Chief and Kratos in Fortnite. I mean Master Chief only appeared in the Xbox version and Kratos only appeared in the PlayStation versions so why can't Samus be only appeared in the Switch version?

I think Nintendo just has this mentality of the fact that their IPs should only be on the game version thats on their consoles so it makes other players have the reason of buying the game on that specific console only. This worked in old times where it would be in their story modes as skins or even dlc like sonic lost world. The reason its not working now is because theya re trying to implement this to fully online games so it is almost impossible to arrange it so that only the Nintendo players will have access to that content. They should really open up their options to modern day and age and understand that its not the same anymore.

Also, I mean for the smash thing. Chances are, they aren't the ones begging for all those characters in the game. They are probably being asked. As a Nintendo and Fortnite fan, it really does suck that Nintendo is being so overprotective of their IPs. I get that they don't want Mario, Isabelle, or Kirby shooting (realistic) guns, but the more "mature" series would fit in well, like Samus, Link/Zelda, Captain Falcon, Fox, or even Little Mac! I would totally drop V-Bucks on bundles for those characters, especially Samus, Link, and Fox

Worst things Nintendo has done: 1. Stopped multiple Smash tournaments from happening. 2. DMCA takedowns for Switch Joycons for the passing of Edika, someone who loved Nintendo more than most people will ever in their lives. 3. Shutting Down both the 3DS and Wii U stores and making it so you can’t download games you have already purchased. 4. DMCA takedowns of Fan Games and not letting them bring them back, even if they do not use Nintendo characters. And now this? I HATE NINTENDO SOMETIMES!!!!

I can understand why some confusion with Samus and Falcon not being allowed in, even with them being bounty hunters. But they definitely would not let any other characters slide using real guns. They definitely lost it when rare showed DK with a double barrel lol. But honestly for Fortnite isn't really iconic in any way to me with mostly showing common characters most know about already. Meanwhile smash has that better effect being around longer and with starting with Melee back in 2001, implementing the trophies to show off even more game characters and the series their from, even from some Japan only games.

Credit to Nintendo for this. Its business decisions like this, that kept Nintendo around for so long. Microsoft put master chief in fortnite, and it still didn't boost halos popularity. Nintendo knows not to let western game companies just do what they want with their IP.

I understand some people frustration about that, but nintendo doesn't need fortnite to advertising their products, I think it's still fun that people act like Nintendo doesn't know what they're doing, even with switch being the 3rd best selling console of all time, the 3DS was popular, wii sold 100 mi+ and DS is the second best selling console of all time, not even couting how almost every nintendo IP broke sales records during the Switch era.

Being able to see Samus Aran on PlayStation and Xbox sounds cursed and would definitely take some getting used to, so I can't really say I'm too mad about this not working out lol. But yeah, this really doesn't make much sense objectively; Nintendo already has SEVERAL Switch exclusive games to convince people to buy it. Also, wasn't this known for a year or two now?

I honestly do understand where they are coming from, I mean if they’re games were on other consoles they’re sales on their consoles would plummet, but this is completely different, it’s not like having a samus cosmetic is gonna cause an Xbox or PlayStation player to not play Metroid games.

I don't exactly agree, bro. I see where your coming from, it being stupid for only being seen by Switch fans but it IS Nintendo's IP, Character, Female suit wearing blonde sharp shooter. Tbh, I understand them, if your that crazy about Nintendo characters, won't you be playing on Switch? Won't you have already played Metriod Dread if you're that eager to play her? Personally, you gotta give Nintendo credit. They did a solid by staying away from fortnite. I'd work with others but not on games like fortnite. I wouldn't tolerate my character being used to crudely shoot at others.

Nintendo probably just showed Epic games their pre-written pamphlet regarding their "Cosmetics Policy" where they outlined that their characters can never be viewed cross platform. And when challenged on this, they probably just said, "Ok, and?"

I’m sorry but idk what the big deal is. If you want to say oh Metroid would sell more copies because it’s in Fortnite. Maybe like a few more, like that’s not a guarantee. I know people will just look at Samus and say, oh that’s that one character from Smash Bros.
