Yes. Our classical music has many different types of music houses. This one is just a thumari. So many classical instruments. Cuisines, dance, martial arts, spiritual processes all are unique. It's rituals, talent, science, ayurveda, yoga, golden past is all awesome. Brits looted use very big but our heritage remains in our hearts. And shall always remain.

The hammer for tabla is used fixed the pitch of the tabla. Because tabla skin is made of goat's leather so with temperature increase or decrease the skin changes it's pitch. These masters will know it immediately if the pitch has changed even half a note.

Just a nugget of info - the gentleman on tabla is one the foremost tabla player in UK. He is an exponent of Benaras gharana(tradition) and son of tabla maestro pundit Ram Sahai. Thumri is a semi-classical vocal style usually romantic in nature. It is always contemplative in nature where the vocalist will expand on individual words to convey mood. This composition is imbued with Viraha bhava(pain of seperation) as evidenced by the lyrics. Yaad piyaa ki ayee (Memories of my beloved brings pain to my heart).

Your reactions are pure and honest! You guys transcend the language and culture barriers and truly appreciate good music and talent! I have long since believed that the melodic brilliance of Indian classical is art of the highest caliber and deserves more credit than it currently does. The audience itself is very limited. Truth be told, Indian classical does not have a huge fan following even in India, which is quite sad.

Darbar, pronounced as Durr-Bar. Would roughly translate to "the court". In the old days, musicians got the patronage of Kings and royalty, so they would often grace the royal courts, called Darbar, with their performances.

@@ricksegallactor also why classical performers don't stand up and perform. The people, women specifically that performed standing up were generally only there for the "entertainment" of the king, if you know what I'm saying. That tradition trickled down to our modern times and in Hindustani classical music, standing up to perform has a negative connotation to it. It's looked upon as degradation of art and values as art isn't merely for entertainment.

This all started after islami invasions when they started destroying temples. Before that classical music and dances only performed in temples. That was the point when difference between hindustani classical and Carnatic classical started. Carnatic still is temple based and more Dharma rooted music and vocal. While north Indian classical music has to changed little bit because performer were not allowed to use Hindu Gods name in their music and vocals in Islamic rulers court.
@nycscribe538
@nycscribe538 4 жыл бұрын
@@tejasvi18joshi well the Islamic invasions did start in the 14th-15th century. So it's in no way shape or form an inorganic imposition of arts, nor is it a recent phenomenon. It's been going on since the medieval times. Besides, I think it only added to the beauty of things rather than taking anything away. You make it sound like as if Hindustani classical music is inferior or suffered because of the Persian influence.

Not many people can enjoy Thumri and it's amazing to see how Rick does! I would say the artistic expression part is amazing as well, if you see the words she takes and improvises on them melodically! Those were really touching.

Thumri is a redention style more used in vocal redention in Hindustani (north indian) Classical. Developed during Mughal Era (15th century) but some scholar attribute it to Amir Khusro school (13th centuary). This thumri is in Raag Bhina Shadaj probably. Thumri is more difficult than Bandish which we usually listen.

Korbin, the hammer thing the tabla player used, is for tuning the tabla. I was taught singing from the age of 4. I dont even remember when I first started learning. And then I was taught art and dancing as well but obviously in no way close to her. Cultural expression is a very Bengali thing, henceforth, we have singers, dancers, actors, basically any form of artist, in every single home. PS: 9. Manna Dey and Kishor Kumar singing Ek Chatur Nar from the movie Padosan.. 🙄❤

All classic singers, musicians, folk all the artists they don't do it for mastery or money or getting famous they do it for sadhana (more spiritually connected) they put a lot of years in learning, mastering, improvising inventing, submitting themselves to the art, Which gives us this kind of experience from them. A VERY HIGH PERFORMANCE.

Indian classical never performed in band. There's nothing like band in indian classical. They all meet before performance or on stage and they simply improvise. It's the learning that helps. They just know the grammar very well.

@@rahulmeenoth There is no separate "Pakistani musical heritage". Its all Indian. Except a few northwestern folk traditions unique to their regions, which we lost to partition, all of Pakistani music and art culture is Indian culture. Only difference is, they have inculturated everything Indic into an Urdu-based Islamic (largely Sufi) mould.

Thumari is semi classical singing style. It has less rules of swara patterns and can use variety of notes while performing, even out of the box You both give very good reactions at exact places where she takes nice notes, you have really talented and with great knowledge of music even you don't know the language

Thumri is my favourite genre. You should explore more of it. It's beautiful. Greats like the ali brothers, bade Ghulam ali Khan Saab, girija devi, beghum akhtar etc to begin with. You'll fall in love with it. This is okay compared to what they sing and where they transport you to. Some things just get popular. If you really want to enjoy this genre you must listen to the above. Extremely talented singer but the voice is too sharp, thumri sounds beautiful when someone has a certain effortless quality to their voice. When singers are able to sing at their original pitch mostly instead of constantly at a high pitch (very difficult to do) which is what all these great legends I named above do. Thumri is something you just can listen to for hours.
