TheNajain Me too! I wouldn't know about her if not for youtube, which is great for such discoveries when used to filter out the endless rubbish ! As an authentic punk, I found our Nina by accident when searching Nico, a coming as a surprise not to have heard about her,(esp since she's been about since at least 1978) but then realised how insular even the British or English New Wave/Punk scene can be when it comes to all things "foreign". She must be at least a couple of years older than me,(we do seem to mature like a fine wine or when distilling a single malt whisky, maybe a better comparison might be the fine line between how stinky blue cheeses improve and age as they rot and decay !) Appreciate your message. Funnily the video for Smack Jack has Nina dressed as Kate Bush and Cyndi Lauper, who both had huge mainstream success by the time Nina parodied them, whilst claiming to be "alternative", which is the point she's making in that film. Just when I thought I was starting to get a full picture, damn it if she isn't singing melodically Hindu songs devoted to the female aspect of Vishnu, Shiva ! (Who I have a large brass statue of, after my travels and a time I went to the Sri Mahamariamman gupola/temple each day, even placing my hands nine times in the Brahmin's sacred fire, without harm obviously, just before he led us round each shrine, finishing as usual at a giant lifesize statue of Sri Mahamariam herself, who name literally means "Saint/Holy (shree) - Great (maha) - her name (mariaman, a form of maryam/miryam/Mary)", and she represents one of the destructive aspects of the great mother goddess. When we reached her, the Hindu priest removed the giant flower garland put around her neck in veneration, before walking towards me. Somehow intuitively knowing what was going on, I had bowed deeply, as he placed it around my neck. As I left the Temple and made my way back to where I was staying, the local Tamil Indians just kept running up to me and touching my clothing, calling me Sami, which is the same as Swami meaning "saint / sage". Ziggy has become such a "classic rock" staple that everyone has forgotten how incredibly weird and wonderfull it was when it came out. Nina channels Bowie's extra terrestrial energy and does justice to the original and this is probably why Bowie obviously loved this version
