Riveting portrait of a beautiful and super talented woman. I love the bold way you started the portrait by laying down the wash of graphite. I was a bit scared at first: how is she going to rescue this? And then the magic unfolded. So lovely to have you back, Sade, I've missed you.

Beautiful! I love Nina Simone! Have you seen Ma Rayney's Black Bottom? That movie really bringst home the struggle of a black person, a woman and particularly a black woman in the entertainment industry. The first black woman who really stood out to me was Grace Jones. She was always called androgynous but I always thought she was/is the most unapologetically female and I still love that about her.

What a beautiful portrait of a beautiful woman. I loved seeing you work with granite as a watercolor medium. I must say Toni Morrison is most amazing. I was lucky enough to hear her speak and read from one of her works years and years ago. She was riveting and amazing.

Lupita Nyong'o is so incredibly gorgeous, I could stare at her skin for days. She also went on Sesame Street and talked about loving your skin so she's just all around A+ person.

Wonderful portrait and I'm now wanting to try water soluble graphite! On Nina Simone, I love her music and I lover her blackness. She was beautiful. Black is beautiful. I can sing Young, Gifted, and Black with all sincerity and I am a white woman. I appreciated Nina's power as an artist and as a black woman. She commanded respect and that to me is her beauty shining. I really mean it when I say that blackness is beautiful, not in a fetishist way, but as truth. I wish more white people were like me. Black lives matter. Black beauty matters. Black women matter. Nina Simone matters. You, Sadie, matter. All the love for your sharing your love of Nina and your thoughts on blackness and beauty. You are a fantastic artist and a wonderful gift to this world.

I don't know Nina Simone that well, but I have listened to a few of her songs. I really like to find black artist or bipoc artist, because I think diversity in the art community is important and important for my view on the world. I love your videos!

I love this Sadie, every word and every brush/pencil stroke! Nina Simone is one of my favorites. She was beautiful and brilliant. Her life story makes me sad, too. Most days, I don't think we've come far at all as a species... As a white woman, I fully recognize my privilege but skin color shouldn't be a factor in anything. Yet it is a factor in everything.

I always love to watch a portret from poc; though Im as white as they come being mixed race I thought I was able to get that sence of dignity and pride in the faces and Im still happily failing at it knowing that that is not my doing Im just not aware enough yet in how to do right by those roots to get that in. For me that is just part of the learning curve; I dont want to paint that if I cant feel that the right way.
