I love this new original song, Angelina's live interpretation and lyrics are extraordinarily raw and aggressive and her so particular, hoarse and deep voice completely fascinates you while she performs those fantastic and beautiful tonal scales and does it in perfect relaxation, effortlessly, as if it were the most normal thing in the world. With her I continue, even after many years of listening, to have goosebumps every time, in particular with every new wonderful vocal experiment that she creates. Yes, Angelina and Toby, give us more like this one! Thanks Nina for your insightful analysis, as usual. I think this song is a wonderful follow up from Angie's EP "Old Enough". What I loved about it? Everything, lol. The musical arrangement with piano cello and violin, the jazzy feel of the song, Angelina's attitude and of course, her voice using many of her vocal tools from low to high, from husky to "kind" of sweet, amazing! Should be a hit if properly promoted. And don't forget this was a live performance! I also wonder how will they arrange it for the release... Also, Angelina has a concert coming at the Alex Theatre, Glendale,, CA on September 20th where she will release new music, YEAY! So excited about that 🥳

Always love your reactions. I think on the mic she tried to get it out of the stand if you heard/saw just before the start of the song. She relented but wanted to be able to control mic, placement so she ended up rocking the mic stand to alter placement as needed..

Hi, Nina. It's like she was born with attitude - definitely put a spell on me. So much technique and talent. I agree that the chord progression was a stand out, familiar but with just enough variation to keep it surprising. Absolutely dynamic start to her song ! The first words out of Angelina just grabs your attention because it was the opposite of that calm piano intro ! Lyrically so different to what Valentine usually is ! Angelina finally gives us a alternative side of personality through these well written lyrics ! I agree with you that Iam really intrigued to find out how the final production will come out it. But I know with a fabulous composer and producer like Toby Gad it's going to be quite quite wonderful to witness the polished and finished product. Wonderful reaction as always, Nina! Love your chord analysis. A couple interesting points: 1) Angelina sings jazz so I don't think she puts as much emphasis on clear pronunciation as more classical singers do. That being said - what's your guess as to the word or words she says here "I told you I would mess up ______; I told you right from the start"? 2) I'm guessing you songwriters need to hang out and support one another, since you (songwriters, that is) are often out of the limelight - this get together of 'Jesse and Friends' is for songwriters and about songwriters. NO VOCALISTS WERE ANNOUNCED AHEAD OF TIME. In fact, the only tag line in the poster was "Songwriters performing their hits". A few (4?) angels guessed ahead of time nonetheless that Angelina may appear, and we paid a big $10 to watch a livestream, and got to see this song debuted in real time. Best $10 spent ever! She also debuted her version of If I Were a Boy right before this. What struck me: She blew the roof off the place with these 2 performances - mainly through the power and passion of her vocals.

I’ll be there. I live in a suburb of LA, about 30 miles from Glendale which is where I work. Ticket sales are currently very slow. The only announcement is on her website which is probably the least visited of her sites. Strangely no announcement on her socials or anywhere else that I can see at the moment. The lack of publicity is very surprising especially since the show is less than a month a way. Maybe they are counting on us to spread the word.

They were on Toby Gad's session at Hotel Cafe with Jesse & Friend's on May 16, 2024, for his Piano Diaries, and he had each individual singer go up to do a song, and Angelina Jordan went up last, and she sang two songs, "If I Were A Boy" and then their unreleased song, "Bad Valentine." We paid for the concert through some online payment service; it wasn't very much though. The concert started pretty early, and there were actually quite a few song writers who presented songs that night both before and after Toby Gad. It was a cool night! ❤️

We don’t know if Toby is part of the concert. The songs they worked on together were for Republic. They were not a side project with Toby. It’s also not known if they are working on or have worked on additional material since those 8 songs from last year. Time will tell.

Thanks for your great reaction! Toby Gad has written Grammy award-winning songs for such artists as Beyoncé, John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, Fergie, Demi Lovato, and many others. He has taken Angelina under his wing and this is their first original song to be released together. There are others in the works. No question that this song is created to display all of the best of Angelina's capabilities. It is likely that Toby co-wrote the song, but Angelina exudes grit and passion that is written on her face, and expressed in her vocals. It is she who brings this masterpiece to life! There is no question that this is the opportunity that Angelina has long anticipated. When Bad Valentine is officially released, it will surely launch her career to the next level! Peace.

❤️❤️❤️❤️👣 It's fantastic to hear Angelina really open up her powerful voice. Hopefully, this collaboration with Toby will enable her to break out to a more broad audience. Apparently he said in an interview that he and she had recorded 8 songs prior to the release of her EP Old Enough, and she called him to say the EP was coming out. He asked her how many of their songs were on it, and she told him that none of them were on it. He said he had " a kind of nerverous breakdown" over it. I assume it was Republic Records that decided what was going to be on the EP and not Angelina. He had her sing If I Were A Boy on his Piano Diaries album and also said in an interview that she was the best singer he had ever worked with. That's quite a compliment considering all of the big name artists he has worked with. I really feel for him over their songs not being on her EP , he seems like such a nice man. I hope that they find a way to publish those 8 songs. Mabye going around Republic and releasing them on another label. I don't know how any of that works, but I think most Angels would want to hear those songs. She is having a concert on September 20th in LA and the ticket prices are very reasonable. It's at the Alex theatre, a 1400 seat facility so everyone should have a good view. It was built in 1925 I believe. I'm flying there from Texas then flying back after the concert. It's going to be very tiring for my cousin and me. I'm 65 and she is 75 but we are so excited to see Angelina that it will be worth it. There will apparently be new songs that she will sing , I hope some of those will be the songs she and Toby have been working on.😊

I thought Angelina was the best singer I’d ever heard when she was 12, so… The “roses are red, violets are blue” lyric is great. It’s an interesting change-up in the melody, but it’s there because it’s the beginning of so many Valentine cards-and Angelina abandons that cliché verse by telling her suitor that he’s just a fool. She’s mocking those sweet Valentine cards with some real attitude. There’s no need to finish the line poetically because the relationship, like the verse, is over with. Great writing, powerfully delivered.

Love it. Chord pattern is amazing for sure, perfect for it, must be. During the chorus it's such an addition. Setting it all up with her as well, 👌. But her vocals and the conviction in a darker song, the attitude, 😐, 😮, 😍, 🤩. She struck me for sure. I used to think man the world better take care of this girl, but I think, sweet as she may be, she's never felt better or more ready than that night. This combo will be good. Toby almost looks awestruck while he is playing and watching Angelina sing. I think he said she is the best he has worked with. I love her as you never really know whats coming next--you just know it's gonna be outstanding. It's wonderful to have someone so unique with such artistry, so many colors, and such a high level of execution on all of them that just draws you in. Angelina uses the mic to add to her vibrato. You can see it on this performance, and Nina noticed it too. She will wiggle the mic to get extra vibrato. She’s always done it. Even in her first performance of Gloomy Sunday at age 7.

​@adairmartin maybe SOMETIMES. But I've watched hundreds of her performances and that "technique" is the RARE exception for sure. She does not need to do that to "get extra vibrato." A quick lesson in the dynamics of what vibrato is: vibrato is wave modulation between TWO pitches that are very close together. Moving tge microphone back and forth, closer then farther, would NOT cause or even duplicate vibrato. Vibrato can't be "faked" in this way.

On 12/08/23 she released new Marry Christmas EP “Driving Home for Christmas”. On 12/10/23 she sing in Oslo at the Nobel Peace Prize Celebration - Unchained Melody tribute to 2023 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi. On february 29, 2024 she had two concerts in Las Vegas, Nevada,on the Elvis stage. On May 16, 2024, the first fruits of Angelina's cooperation with Tobi Gad were released. This German composer and record producer based in Los Angeles invited Angeline to an intimate concert at the Hotel Cafe JESSE & FRIENDS, the same one where Adel sang and was discovered. Tobi then took Angelina to London, where she performed His song If I Were A Boy at the London Palladium, and they recorded two versions of the song, Live At Saint James Church, and another studio version illustrated with a film from the streets of London. It seems that Tobi has started cooperation with Angelina and there are several joint songs in the pipeline. At the May concert in Los Angeles, one of them was presented: BAD VALENTINE. Angelina's next concert is on Sept 20th, 2024 at the Alex Theatre in Glendale, CA. Tickets are available on the website Ticketmaster, Starting from $140 to $1700.

Acapella? Really do check out her partially acapella version of If I were a boy with Toby in a wonderful London church. It is live. There is another that was studio produced using the video from the church but Angelina is startlingly good live. So be sure to get the Acapella version. Informally Toby has said Angelina sings it the way he imagined it.

Very insightful and beautiful. I am from South Africa and with or without shoes, she makes the point that she deserves fire from however wants to be her Valentine. She needs all the fire, respect from a partner that deserves her, and her self worth demands this without doubt. She is the best singer ever. I am 65years old and would do anything for her just to earn my respest. I only can only be her valentine for her talent and the joy she shares to make my life better and that is all I need . A worthy person will earn her valentine.. She deserves this.

No, very few times, she will wear shoes. It depends on the setting. I've seen her wear shoes in practice a few times too. Some places also don't allow taken shoes off for insurance purposes too.
