Trent Reznor is 50 fucking years old, hes been a one man band for practically 30+ years and is as good as he was when he started, he is easily one of, if not thee, best artist ever. Doesnt matter if you like the genre or not , Van halen cant say that, ACDC cant say that, Paul Mccartney sure as hell cant say that

@ArhionvarFromScratch8 жыл бұрын
Pigeonlarva magoo I was referring to him being an, in essence, one-man band across different genres and eras of music. He's been the key member of Pendulum and Knife Party- not the same genre, but it's the idea you're trying to convey that I get behind. I suppose a better comparison in electronica is probably Simon Posford as a single artist for 20 some years and across multiple groups; in Hallucinogen, Shpongle, Younger Brother and others. It's not that it's debatable that Trent Reznor is a marvel of the semi-modern music world, I'm just identifying with an idea I've had with other producers of music I also listen to.

I always considered Year Zero to be his most underappreciated album. It's very Orwellian mixed with this soundtrack that's perfect for any cyberpunk themed project. I use to listen to this album when I was living in San Francisco and no other music couldn't have fit the tone of the city any better than this sound.

I didn't give Year Zero the attention that this album deserved. It seemed like a lot of fans didn't, yet listening to it now, it has the sound of an amazingly good album. These songs are also very revealing of the state this world is in. And just how angry we should feel. We are living in a world that is upside down and it is frightening. Art Is Resistance.

I remember when his song was released, and NIN fans HATED it. At the time it topped "Worst NIN songs" lists regularly. I on the other hand loved it. The intensity and violence of the nature, the seemingly nonsense lyrics and the feeling of paranoia throughout was unlike anything I had heard. Like a lot of masterpieces the fans have grown to love it over time, and hearing it live in 2013 was unreal, especially with those backup singers who just rocked the night!!!

@Gary White Alright, came back to this vid because the 4th of July. It's a good tune. But 2 quick things, because for some reason there's this little tickle at the back of my head to write this. Taking the modern Canon into account, the bible is alleged to be two thousand years old, not one thousand. (It is in fact older by a few hundred years, as earlier drafts are a hodge-podge of folk works.) And secondly, that's not quite how the burden of proof works. You are asking him to prove a negative. "Prove that this *isn't* true" The burden of proof works quite the opposite, you have to prove that something *is* true, or at least that the claim you are putting forwards has strong supporting evidence that both connects the provided information, logically holds together, and in strong models, can be used to make consistent predictions regarding behavior/patterns.

With the rise of the GOP appealing more and more to evangelicals for votes by passing archaic laws inspired by nonsensical religious rhetoric like banning abortion and constantly targeting the lgbtq+ community, yes I’d say this whole album is still relevant. It is a concept album after all, Trent was inspired to create from his time touring to promote the With Teeth album during the good ole dubya era. It’s a look into a possibility of what life could look like when the religious right infects every level of our government. I’d say it’s still prophetic.
@chucker6252 жыл бұрын
@@vytalman You used the phrase 'nonsensical religious rhetoric'. I think the best definition for religion is something like "a firmly held and fiercely defended belief in a set of ideas that are incongruent with facts, logic and / or reason." That said, there are plenty of religious idiots on both sides of the aisle. People on one side think people on the other side are to blame for all bad things while simultaneously re-electing the same career politicians over and over again. The politicians understand that they don't need to solve anything as long as they give their constituents something to hate, blame and fear. They intentionally create an environment where (almost) any conversation surrounding a political topic is hostile. That way people stop talking to each other and instead listen only to them. People don't dare question them for fear of being labeled as 'the other'. This gets more and more extreme as the Politicians try harder and harder to maintain their positions of power that (magically) keep getting more and more lucrative. Round and Round we go.... If you sincerely believe that 'your side' is pure and not just as guilty as the 'other side', congratulations! You've arrived at church.

Year zero, one of the most ground breaking albums ive ever heard. blows away many of reznors other works. this is one of my go to albums when tripping. focuses your trip in a beautiful direction. but on the contrary "with teeth" and "the fragile" have a dangerously self-destructive message over all. I've learned to stray away from those two albums, they contributed to putting me in one of the darkest places I've ever been in, in this life. Be careful what music you choose to listen to my friends it has a greater effect than you may think. Don't underestimate the power of perspective and what it can manifest
@gr3y_eminence8 жыл бұрын
+Thomas Streets Agreed, I would not trip or get into heavy mediation listening to TDS. It's aggressive, powerful, intense; and pretty tragic. The Fragile I sort of disagree, depending on the old classic saying "set and setting" I would the say that TF's instrumental programming to be really cool to listen to. A lot of layers and a lot of beauty, but it requires you not to get into the darker aspects of it. That I agree could bring you down in a vulnerable state of mind. Year Zero though, I think is amazing for deep focused relaxation whether in the form of tripping or whatever. It tells a powerful narrative, but it's open to interpretation and from the last few tracks I get the feeling I never got from earlier NIN which was sort of a call to arms for all human beings to resist negativity i.e. "Zero-Sum." That is a really amazing song, along with Right Where It Belongs. Very reflective but not nearly so judgmental about the human condition. Sometimes his work is very dark without a hole at the end of the tunnel but those two suggest something more . . .

This song was the highlight of the show last night. Watching the backup singers absolutely LOSE it was incredible. Fantastic show. NIN is amazing live no matter how many times I see them.

This album was such an out of the box concept album, even if 1984 was in everyones mind at the time. It was so innovative with its distribution after the collapse of the record industry

Great example of Trent's genius overcoming the void of the absence of guitar quality. Wonder what would have come from a NIN with Richard Patrick still there? Oh well!

In a sense the Censor fulfills its role in this video. It feels to boost the actual feeling of the song in a sense.

NSA monitoring program Militarized police The collapse of capitalism The ever worsening existential threat of climate crisis The increasing unmasking of American fascism This song is simply reality. It was ramping up in 2009, it's still ramping up now in 2021. Each decade will get worse and worse. Things are horrible now, but also as good as they will ever be again.

It was relevant since 2007, you dumbfucks just spent the past decade pretending it wasn't to feel better because Obama put a smiling face and a chipper tone to mask it. Now the message is just blunter.
