I was a junior in high school in Macon Ga. at the time . Yeah I was there. Believe it or not, this was a typical Saturday afternoon in Central City Park at that time. Allman Bros. Wet Willie. Marshall tucker. You never knew who would show up to play. Damn I miss those days and I am 63 now. Wish I could relive that.

I was 18 just then. Those Macon days in the park and Capricorn letting loose on the bandstand were the best we'll ever see. Grant's Lounge... anyone might show up. Allman Brothers, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, The Marshall Tucker Band.. in that little club. They're still open (after closing for a time to assess the fact that Macon is one of the most crime ridden, murder filled places on earth) and doing live music. We never knew how good we had it till the days were in the past. I, too, wish we could relive those Saturdays at Central City Park. This video and the others done for Kirshner take us back for a minute. Keep on Smilin', Terry.

I was fortunate enough to produce a show with Wet Willie this past weekend and these comments still ring true! Jimmy Hall and Wet Willie are as tight and as cohesive of a band in 2021 as they were in 1973. Jimmy is just about as lively on stage as he is in this video and the vocals are even better now than they were then! Unbelievable! They are tighter than most bands half their age and they put it all out on the stage every show they do. Jack Hall is one of the most underrated bass players in Rock N Roll and Jimmy is the best front man to ever live! Mrs Donna Hall has still got it as well!

Mobile, Alabama! Yeah, that's where I spent my formative years from 1978-1987. Nice town, but not know for producing too many great bands (different from, say, Jacksonville, FL!). However, there WAS Jimmy Buffet...and the great, criminally-underrated grits-slinging, deep-fried boogie-woogie band Wet Willie. A great band, loved by everybody who ever heard them. Unfortunately, not enough people DID hear them. A shame. Cause they were tight as hell, and Jimmy Hall was one bad-ass front man. White, tal and lanky, that didn't stop Jimmy from singing with a lot of soul, playing a mean blues harmônica, and belting out some great ragged dixie horn riffs. God bless Wet Willie! and thanks for this great post.

Wet Willie had the goods. Jimmy was a white soul/blues belter of the finest order. A righteously miracle of a harp player who also played a mean sax. John Anthony might have been the tastiest electric piano player that ever has been. Ricky Hirsch. What can I say to make you realize he was the most awesome blues electric guitarist right up there with BB and Eric. WW had a pound driving rhythm section of Jack Hall and Lewis Ross who were so under-recorded on the early studio albums you just had to witness them live. Wet Willie could have been the next Rolling Stones band from the south, but we'd have to wait until The Black Crowes as the fickle music business never really gave them the support and push they were totally worthy of. The best recorded evidence of their awesomeness was the live album Drippin' Wet. I listen to that these 50-years later and only am wanting more. What a fantastic band so few really understood or hooked into.
