Clint great review, I am interested in the same bike for gravel grinding. I am looking more for comfort and looking forward for your review on the steel. I am 6' 215 lbs and looking for a all around bike for gravel and rough paved roads. I was thinking about the aluminum and putting wide tires for ride quality, but now leaning towards the steel. Looking forward for your steel review.

Thanks for the follow up review and look forward to your thoughts on the steel RLT 9. I've been saving up for a RLT 9 for a comfortable all around bike, now I think I'll save a little more for the 4 star steel model.

Would a flexible seatpost like the Niner Carbon RDO or Ergon CF3 and a set of carbon bars not help the comfort? I've been debating between the RLT9 aluminum and steel versions and am leaning towards the alu one for weight. I knew the alloy version was stiff and was hoping some flex oriented cockpit components could solve that enough when coupled with a good tubeless setup. I've had steel cross bikes in the past and would prefer to not carry the extra weight as I will be doing some mountainous gravel races, plus the stiffness would help with climbing. But I am curious as to what the exact weight difference is when you get a chance to compare both framesets as I might be worrying too much about an insignificant amount of weight, I haven't found reliable weight information yet for the framesets.

a flexible seatpost would definitely help. If I didn't have a carbon cyclocross bike then I probably the stick with the aluminum for the stiffness and lightweight. I will weigh the frames for you before I build them up.

Clint I think you have the best bike reviews online, and I was wondering could you maybe borrow some rode bike with the new tiagra 2016 or maybe sora and tested it and make your own review, I feel like most online review is just marketing stuff, would love to hear your opinion, thanks

hey what is the difference between a road bike and an XC bike.. is it only the tires that make the difference? is the rlt 9 considered a road bike if you put road tires on it? thanks

+Tatiana Miranda I think you mean CX not XC XC refers to a cross-country mountain bike. CX, or cyclocross bikes, have a little bit slacker angles than a road bike and they're built a little bit beefier. But yes, if you put road tires on a cyclocross bike it'll be very similar to a standard road bike, especially if they are carbon. My gravel bike, the rlt is steel and heavier than I would have for a normal road bike.
