We wanted to see what was possible when you pair Unreal Engine 5, the world’s most open and advanced real-time 3D creation tool, with Quixel Megascans, as well as assets from Sketchfab and the Unreal Engine Marketplace.
So we set a challenge for ourselves - a project we call “Ninety Days”.
What our teams were able to accomplish far exceeded our wildest expectations, creating over 40 distinctly stunning environments in just a few days each - something that would’ve been unimaginable just a few years ago.
We hope you will enjoy this showcase!
Read all about the Ninety Days project on our blog: quixel.com/blog/2022/5/12/nin...
We’d also like to thank here all the super talented creators whose contributions helped make the ‘Ninety Days in Unreal Engine 5’ project possible. For more art from the Ninety Days project check out our Art Blast on ArtStation: magazine.artstation.com/2022/...

@@beepppoool8257 It depends. I used to spend all my time playing video games, but then I started learning 3D art and now I’m spending even more time than before, but now I’m working on them. I don’t even play that much anymore and I honestly enjoy the process more than actually playing video games. As a creative person, there isn’t a better way of expressing your imagination IMO. That’s why a lot of people find it fascinating, but it isn’t for everyone though.

@@rubiconnn I totally agree! It's one thing for things to look pretty and lifelike. But in order for true immersion, the world needs to be interactive so it doesn't just feel like wallpaper. I'm hoping UE5 will allow for a lot of manipulation and interactivity beyond just dynamic lighting and particle fx. Think of how many creators would finally have a tool with which they can fully express themselves without having "technical issues" (or at least as many as they would have if a conventional road would be taken). it doesn't, few second prerendered video doesn't really compare to an AAA title running real time on all sorts of different hardware at acceptable level, also mocap, ai design, story and script writing, and then you need to advertise and sell it, it is impossible task for _average_ person, there are very very few people able to do all that and compete with a big company, but few dedicated and talented people most certainly can start something without the need to develop their own 3d engine any more, that is for sure but the reality is - there basically aren't any small team projects that have released anything substantial that could really challenge big company products, I've seen few, but they are mostly in perpetual development and living off patrons or or other sponsors, they usually suffer from multiple rewrites because by the time they are 1/3 or 1/2 done, new technology comes along and makes their product look already obsolete, so they start over and over and over and those few individuals, who can do all that, will chose a cozy job doing something specific for someone for good money, because doing all that on your own is very stressful and you end up living it with absolutely no time for any social life, chance of burning out before finishing it is very big, almost a certainty

They don't have to be in competition with each other if they play with their strengths. Individuals and small teams can take risks that larger players can't. Like targeting a niche , or even controversial. Big Studios cannot take those kind of risks but they can build large experiences that an individual will take decades to make on their own. Big Studios are all about saving time, so they are structured and planned while individuals can be free , take high risks and be spontaneous.

@Numai Blandness? So realism is blandness to you? Isn't every live film uh, filmed in real life which -- according to you -- looks bland? If we can make our own material with realistic assets on the get-go we would save ourselves a lot of trouble traveling to actual locations, renting incredibly expensive cameras and filming equipment, etc. Perhaps some people just was to make realistic CGI films because they would much rather do it professionally in a real life setting but can't. Not everybody's story is the same. And realism can't be bland if you have interesting filters, rendering techniques, and camera angles with proper lighting to convey your message. There's so much you can do with just one tool.

@@thronosstudios no but the amount of realism available as games (also i talk about games not movies or shows). I don't give a shit about a realistic disney movie, i like the animations more (as the majority does according to sale numbers) I don't care about the most polished games either. Also Realism is realism, there is not much range you have to adapt your games and make them unique, and even if you manage to do them, with the amount of realism that pops up there will be lots of other games who do the same. I see that already more and more developer shift away from Realism, into a stylized approach in some way or another. But i expect players to be bored out by realism at some point, and realism, the synonym for cheaply made cashgrap games (thanks to megascans) - I might be wrong and i hope so, we will see soon enough.
