The timer is completely correct. A 10 min timer starts at 10.00 not 10.59. So the one second start would be 9.59 or 9 min shown on the timer until 8.59 is reached and 8 mins is shown on the timer.

My guess is that it starts at 9m:59s and then displays only the minute mark. So when 2.01 turns to 1.59 it displays 1 and then goes to 59s at the end. Both are a bad look

That's how my stove timer works too. Took me a a bit to figure out that setting it to 10 minutes and it dropping immediately to 9 was actually 9:59, not 9:00

I have learned something watching this channel, and its that if the "Ninja" name is attached to a cookware item there is a 99% chance its going to be a good item, just a bit pricey. I think the Ninja brand has done exceptionally well at setting up brand loyalty by maintaining good quality control standards and offering products including in niche markets.

The timer changes right away because it is counting down the time. So if you set it for 5 minutes and it changes to 4, it really has 4 mins 59 seconds, so when it changes to 3, it's really 3 mins 59 sec, etc. and why you see it count down the seconds after it gets under a minute. The timer on my current oven is the same way and took some getting my used to.

I purchased the Ninja Crisp 3 weeks ago and have used it every day for dinner. Recrisp is great. Perfect for us! We’re a retired couple living in our RV. By the way, you don’t have to take the adapter off each time. It’ll stay attached to the power head. Nothing wrong with the timer. I use the appliance next to the stove and turn the exhaust fan on while cooking to pull the heat out. In good weather I use it out on our picnic table. I still use the Ninja Grill XL for family size meals.

@@justicem18I doubt that you find any oven type gadget that would be rechargeable. The heating units require so much energy that the power packs would be too large. Hence if you plan on using these outside, you must use heavy duty extension cord. I use mine often on my back deck with extension cord, don't get heat and smells into my kitchen. I have a large kitchen with a lot of storage cabinets, but like to wheel often different cooking gadgets to my deck on a utility cart, have a cold drink and work on my potted plants while the food cooks. No smells inside.😊

I own one and you couldn't pry it away from me. I like cooking in glass first of all, and, the fact it's not a giant appliance on my countertop is a plus. It works basically like my old American Harvest Jet Stream Oven that was discontinued, so I was thrilled to find this one. No appliance is absolutely perfect, it has a lot to do with the temperature of your food when you place it in the oven, whether your steak is right out of the fridge or is closer to room temp. I like the fact you can put the lid on, store it in the refrigerator and it doesn't eat up the entire shelf. There are two other size containers that you can buy, but I think these two sizes are great. I can't think of any cons right now, of course, it's brand new so let's see how long it lasts, but I'm happy with it.

There are definitely compact air fryers that give you more control than this and probably better air circulation. I wish he would have actually let one of the meats stay in the fridge for 16 hours so we could’ve seen its performance with a cold bowl and if it could handle the thermal shock. I also didn’t get his complaint about the hot air. That’s every air fryer. Most people don’t stand behind their appliances hahaha

Here u have a ton of attachments that just creat more clutter and waste space. They couldn't even be bothered to out a normal timer on it, let alone a temp selector..$199, my foot. U can get an amazing air frier, with all the bells and whistles at Costco for under $50.

Bringing it to room temperature does nothing for any piece of meat. There have been many tests done that show that. The only way to cook any steak evenly is to keep flipping so each side gets equal heat. He may disagree with me because he may be set it his ways

@@ohioknifelover I think that allowing the meat to reach room temp (for approx 20 mins or so) affects the tenderness of the meat, not necessarily the cooking thoroughly. I think that cooking a steak from near room temp doesn't cause it to come out tough and chewy. Kind of like doing a roast ... it's best to do it low and slow for tender meat.

When marinating, I'd either take the grill grate out of the glass container, or marinate in a different container completely. With the grate in place, all the marinade simply falls to the bottom, below what is supposed to be marinating. Other than that, it looks pretty good. For the steak, or the grilled cheese, I would preheat the grate for a few minutes with no food first to get it hot. Then put the steak in to cook. As for the uneven cooking, there is probably a dead spot in the middle of the fan because the fan unit is too close to the food being cooked.
@WolfsToob
@WolfsToob 3 ай бұрын
All typical fans have a dead spot in the middle when you are that close, since that’s where the flat/bladeless hub of the fan is.

I had used something similar to this product, and i noticed that the closer you place the heat fan to the food, the hotter it gets and faster it cooks. So if you think that maybe your food is getting burned. You should place it on the Big Bowl one and use the spacer, the item that springs up and down. So when you place the heat fan on it , your food won't be as close to the heat source.....that is how i used to cook my chicken legs. I prefer my chicken crispy while my family just like it average cooked. Just a recommendation if you want to try the grilled cheese again... maybe it might work?

I absolutely love my Ninja Foodi-use it at least once a day. The function I use almost exclusively is bake-air fry seems to dry things out a bit too much for me, and I still use pans to fry, sauté and simmer-and while I’ve tried the pressure cooker it’s just not something I do that often. The ONE thing I dislike is that it’s basically impossible to get the lid clean behind the heating element-you see videos where they steam it and force a brush in there, but you just can’t get it completely clean, or at least I can’t. Anyway, since I mostly cook for one, the Crispi might work for me if/when I have to replace the Foodi. I love the glass-lets you see what’s happening, and I like glass for storage so no additional containers. I also like that it takes less counter space than the Foodi. But I’m not crazy about that timer. I want to see minutes and seconds, because sometimes I want to pause at a specific point to add something or turn something over or whatever. I do still have questions: You set the top aside each time but can you set it on the counter without the counter getting scorched? I can see that it’s raised a bit but still looks pretty close. What does the underside of the “crispi pod” look like? Are we going to have the same issues with cleaning? I’ll have to look to see if you’ve reviewed a Foodi, but if you have, how do you think this compares?

James, when you set it for 5 minutes, it immediately goes to 4 because it's 4:59. The 59 seconds just aren't visible. Only the minutes are visible. So, 5 minutes is exactly 5:00 minutes. Hope that makes sense.

I have something similar but much older (about 20 years). It's called "The Galloping Gourmet" and it too is a removeable top, glass bottom appliance. It is about three times the size of the Ninja model and even has an optional expander ring that you put on the top of the glass bowl which allows one to roast a full 12 pound turkey. You wash it by filling the bowl 1/3 with water and the fan is so strong, the water whirls around the bowl like a cyclone.

Great video. I may be trying out the Ninja Crispi. The timer is fine. If you put in 10 minutes, one second after you turn in on it is 9:59, so it shows 9 minutes (because it is less than 10). If you put in 1 minute, one second after you start it is 0:59, so it counts down. Sounds perfect to me.

My main question is cleaning the splattered grease. That's the issue I hate with the oven I own. Some sections are a real pain to clean. This one looks so much easier. I think that you need to use the larger bowl. The adapter lifts the heating elements enough so you don't get the raw center problem. Your bread was too thick on the cheese sandwich. I think this could be an awesome addition to my kitchen.

I have some thoughts on this it's just a small air fryer which is cool. I actually have some problems with the recipes. Recipes that require marinade Whether it be beef or chicken it doesn't make sense to marinate with the tray. The marinade drips off. I would marinate the beef without the tray. For the wings I would marinate without the tray and start cooking without the tray. Cooking the wings without the tray cooks the marinade into the wings. I would put the wings on the tray at the end just to crisp them up.

It cooks well but smoke still escapes and it is a pain to clean. James should use the large to cook the steak because it is too close to the element to ensure evenly temps from the circulation. That's how I used to cook in my Deni.

This might be "new" but I had a very similar one on 1996 or before and you can still find similars. It dod nos had 2 containers, not lids, but it was a crystal bowl where I was able to bake a whole chicken and ribs, steaks and even hard boiled eggs if wanted. The lid had the convection unit which now are called air fryers. My father also bought one for him. Y really liked it, it was very versatile and easy to clean, though a bit heavy on the thick glass bowl. Now Ninja is a favorite at home. And this designed allows to do many things while having two containers with its lids. It looks great, but concept is not new.

We certainly haven't tried it for all of these different recipes, but it's the absolute BEST for reheating leftover pizza! It's also great for frozen french fries and chicken tenders. Best part is, you can throw some tinfoil or parchment paper inside before you put the food and have virtually zero cleanup.
