The timer is completely correct. A 10 min timer starts at 10.00 not 10.59. So the one second start would be 9.59 or 9 min shown on the timer until 8.59 is reached and 8 mins is shown on the timer.

By the way, you don’t have to take the adapter off each time. It’ll stay attached to the power head. Nothing wrong with the timer. It works basically like my old American Harvest Jet Stream Oven that was discontinued, so I was thrilled to find this one. No appliance is absolutely perfect, it has a lot to do with the temperature of your food when you place it in the oven, whether your steak is right out of the fridge or is closer to room temp. I like the fact you can put the lid on, store it in the refrigerator and it doesn't eat up the entire shelf. There are two other size containers that you can buy, but I think these two sizes are great. When marinating, I'd either take the grill grate out of the glass container, or marinate in a different container completely. With the grate in place, all the marinade simply falls to the bottom, below what is supposed to be marinating. Other than that, it looks pretty good. For the steak, or the grilled cheese, I would preheat the grate for a few minutes with no food first to get it hot. Then put the steak in to cook. As for the uneven cooking, there is probably a dead spot in the middle of the fan because the fan unit is too close to the food being cooked.

So if you think that maybe your food is getting burned. You should place it on the Big Bowl one and use the spacer, the item that springs up and down. So when you place the heat fan on it , your food won't be as close to the heat source.....that is how i used to cook my chicken legs. I absolutely love my Ninja Foodi-use it at least once a day. The function I use almost exclusively is bake-air fry seems to dry things out a bit too much for me, and I still use pans to fry, sauté and simmer-and while I’ve tried the pressure cooker it’s just not something I do that often. The ONE thing I dislike is that it’s basically impossible to get the lid clean behind the heating element-you see videos where they steam it and force a brush in there, but you just can’t get it completely clean, or at least I can’t. Anyway, since I mostly cook for one, the Crispi might work for me if/when I have to replace the Foodi. I love the glass-lets you see what’s happening, and I like glass for storage so no additional containers. I also like that it takes less counter space than the Foodi. But I’m not crazy about that timer. I want to see minutes and seconds, because sometimes I want to pause at a specific point to add something or turn something over or whatever. I do still have questions: You set the top aside each time but can you set it on the counter without the counter getting scorched? I can see that it’s raised a bit but still looks pretty close. What does the underside of the “crispi pod” look like? Are we going to have the same issues with cleaning? I’ll have to look to see if you’ve reviewed a Foodi, but if you have, how do you think this compares?
@davidbendall79193 ай бұрын
James, when you set it for 5 minutes, it immediately goes to 4 because it's 4:59. The 59 seconds just aren't visible. Only the minutes are visible. So, 5 minutes is exactly 5:00 minutes. Hope that makes sense.

I wonder if the issues that happened with the smaller container were due to lack of air flow? I wonder if the grilled cheese and steak were cooked in the lager container if it would be more even;y cooked.

I don't see the Problem with the timer. Start a 3 minute in timer? Timer runs down like 2:59, 2:58,... And you'll see the 2 on the display until the minute is over. But maybe I just don't understand what his issue is 😂

Agree -- the grilled cheese was made with very thick slices and so was close to the top. If he had made it in the larger glass bowl it probably would have worked better.

the timer isn’t confusing. one minute is 60 seconds, so it immediately goes to 59 seconds on the countdown.
@louiswelrod3 ай бұрын
Great video. I may be trying out the Ninja Crispi. The timer is fine. If you put in 10 minutes, one second after you turn in on it is 9:59, so it shows 9 minutes (because it is less than 10). If you put in 1 minute, one second after you start it is 0:59, so it counts down. Sounds perfect to me.
@at3o3 ай бұрын
The timer works just like a microwave timer with the seconds hidden.
@gsmith20009943 ай бұрын
Is that a US thing? In the UK I've only seen microwaves that count down from the time you set and almost all show seconds digits so you can see exactly how long is left, I.e you set for 1:00 it goes to :59 not 1:59?
@TheSchnieder63 ай бұрын
@@gsmith2000994 microwaves have 4 digit displays, this only has 2. So a 2+ minute timer will drop down by 1 when started because it can't show seconds remaining until there is only seconds left, 59-00.

My parents oven works like this too. My mum used to think she had to set it for an extra minute because it never set for the time you tell it but to me this design was pretty intuitive so I guess different people interpret things differently.
@danblankenship57443 ай бұрын
My main question is cleaning the splattered grease. That's the issue I hate with the oven I own. Some sections are a real pain to clean. This one looks so much easier. I think that you need to use the larger bowl. The adapter lifts the heating elements enough so you don't get the raw center problem. Your bread was too thick on the cheese sandwich. I think this could be an awesome addition to my kitchen.

I have some thoughts on this it's just a small air fryer which is cool. I actually have some problems with the recipes. Recipes that require marinade Whether it be beef or chicken it doesn't make sense to marinate with the tray. The marinade drips off. I would marinate the beef without the tray. For the wings I would marinate without the tray and start cooking without the tray. Cooking the wings without the tray cooks the marinade into the wings. I would put the wings on the tray at the end just to crisp them up.

Yes! I had a Deni glass convection ( the original name for air fryer) countertop. I had it for 20, and the coil finally burned out. I bought the Ninja Foodi XL with smoke reduce function. It cooks well but smoke still escapes and it is a pain to clean. James should use the large to cook the steak because it is too close to the element to ensure evenly temps from the circulation. That's how I used to cook in my Deni.

5:44 my daughter makes the best grilled cheese sandwiches. She spreads a little bit of garlic butter on both pieces of bread. Then she places shredded cheese in between the non buttered slices and fries both sides of the sandwich. I would add tomato slices to mine. She doesn't like tomatoes. Lol It makes the perfect grilled cheese sandwich. 😊

This might be "new" but I had a very similar one on 1996 or before and you can still find similars. It dod nos had 2 containers, not lids, but it was a crystal bowl where I was able to bake a whole chicken and ribs, steaks and even hard boiled eggs if wanted. The lid had the convection unit which now are called air fryers. My father also bought one for him. Y really liked it, it was very versatile and easy to clean, though a bit heavy on the thick glass bowl. Now Ninja is a favorite at home. And this designed allows to do many things while having two containers with its lids. It looks great, but concept is not new.

I have the "non see-through" basket version of this air fryer (I recognized the beep lol) and it's awesome! We certainly haven't tried it for all of these different recipes, but it's the absolute BEST for reheating leftover pizza! It's also great for frozen french fries and chicken tenders. Best part is, you can throw some tinfoil or parchment paper inside before you put the food and have virtually zero cleanup.

They keep coming up with really cool stuff. I will say there's still a big reason I love my instant pot duo crisp. The air coming out the vent is just warm so it's not heating up house as much as other units & brands. Not sure how they do it but that's a big bonus for me. Does a great job too. Plus its also an instant pot with all its features like steam, pressure cook, slow cook etc.
