NINJA WOODFIRE OUTDOOR GRILL SMOKED THEN AIR FRIED CHICKEN WINGS! This is my favorite way to cook wings! You get that good smoke flavor, but you still get a nice crispy wing! Add a great sweet heat bbq rub and you have some killer wings!

I 'll tell ya the honest truth... been grilling over charcoal for 40 plus years. Never cared for gas or pellets. This unit is thing is OUTSTANDING... Got it for Father's Day ( actually b4 but had to wait on the stand) it rained here in VA every weekend for a month. I'm a Railroader... Finally got a chance to mess with it this weekend... I was impressed... Did some wings ( air fried then grilled) and some stuffed pork chops... only thing I'll do different is smoke'em for half the cycle and finish on the grill cycle. Appreciate cha bruh. Keep kicking out your ideas and recipes.

Thank you for all your recipes on this grill. Because of you, I went out and purchased one. My first attempt was these wings. The process was exactly as you demonstrated. Through experience, I never use the BBQ rubs. I find less is more and usually go with simple salt and pepper. The way I made these: I used a little over 3 lbs of drummets and wings. They were already thawed. About 21-24 pieces I used a mixture of baking POWDER and cornstarch as a coating. (1tsp of each for every pound of meat) I mixed four teaspoons of each in a separate bowl. You can add a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix thoroughly. Pat wings dry and place in a bowl. Make sure the skin on the wings is covering the meat and not pulled back. Add the flour mixture and mix the wings by hand to coat. Place an air fry basket in the smoker. Add Pecan pellets to the hopper. Select the air crisp mode. Press the wood fire button. Set temp to 400 degrees for 25 minutes. Let the grill go through the ignition and preheat process. (about 5-7 minutes) Place wings skin side up in the basket. Close the lid and smoke/air fry for 10 minutes-open the lid. Flip and cook for another 10 minutes-open the lid. Flip and cook for 5 minutes. They were awesome by themselves. Otherwise, coat in your favorite sauce. *one of the advantages of not using a rub is the fact that they will not darken as much during the air fry process. (usually because of the sugar in the rub)

I've done this several times & it's my new favorite way to do wings. The basket holds 20-22 wings, which is conveniently exactly 1/2 of a 3-lb bag of frozen. Unlike most air fryers where the heat comes entirely from above, the Woodfire has a 1000w element under the grate and only 500w above - don't know for sure but I believe even in the Air Crisp mode most of the heat comes from the grate? Anyway, I've quit flipping them halfway thru. They get cooked just as well and I don't lose any cooking time.

Doing a spatchcock chicken and enjoy chicken in the traditional air fryer. Waiting to put the chicken on after the pellets are all good instead of right from the beginning. Hesitate of the heavy artificial smoked flavor that we got when we made pizzas. Thinking I need to burn off a little of the harsh flavor from the initial burn. Ideas or comments appreciated.

Okay gotcha, thanks! I'll look out for it- perfect timing cause I'm planning to do wings on Monday. I just got this grill, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to get good smoke flavor on things with shorter cook times, since it seems like the ignition process puts out the strongest smoke. @@CookingWithCJ

Just tried it with thighs. Worked well. The grill probably gives more valleys to collect excess grease, but the flat is easier to clean.... 6 of one, half dozen etc. I did notice the basket slides all around the flat top when you try to work the food in it. Not sure if the grill gets less slippage.

I believe there are indents for the basket on the grill plate.

Yes outside only. I let the heavy smoke dissipate before filming, check my rib video to see the smoke. It’s got decent smoke.

So, from watching this video (great job BTW) it seems to me that the 1/2 cup of pellets only lasts about ten minutes. Would have to refill frequently if doing a long smoke process. Do you agree?
@CookingWithCJ
@CookingWithCJ Жыл бұрын
Hey thanks, it’s more like 30-45 min. But, ninja says one half cup of pellets is only needed for a long cook. I don’t see how that’s possible. I’m going to do ribs this week and I’ll put that to the test.

I followed these directions to the t and my smoked wings came out super rubbery. I did a batch in the grill with just air crisp and they came out great, but when I added the smoke to them it was like leather wings. Any ideas why? Love your videos

Hi CJ, I did mine this way and they were NOT crispy. The temp was a little over 200 when I pulled them, I was afraid to leave them any longer thinking they would be waaay overdone. What do you think I did wrong? I don't like it when the skin is chewy????? I did oil and then seasoning, just like you did.
