I can’t believe that under these new rules, Smash tournaments can’t be held within 500 feet of a school, smash players must register at their local sheriff’s office, and participants must go door to door and inform people that they are a registered Smash player in their community. You don't hear that about tekken, capcom, etc. It would be pretty dumb to promote yourself as a family company and support people who seek prey on underage people. 2020 just confirmed Nintendo's fears regarding the Smash community and the lack of backlash they received in the fallout from the general public verified hostility is right coarse of action, so they are doubling down. Nintendo simply can't ignore the Smash community for their image protection they have to be openly hostile. 30 million + sales of Smash Ultimate proves pissing off the Smash community means nothing. Nintendo tried to create a single point of contact with Panda Global but you saw how that went. The Smash community needs to manage themselves before they start thinking that Nintendo should leave them alone.

I had a really bad feeling during the entire Panda fiasco where it seemed to make no sense to me the narrative that became dominant that somehow Alan was on a villain arc to become the god of smash brothers or that he somehow had any control over what nintendo was doing. I thought the best thing to do was just to wait for evidence to come out and figure out what the heck happened before pointing fingers. But just for saying that there were a bunch of people in the comments at the time telling me I was wrong for not having a pitchfork out at Panda or telling people not to take their anger out on panda employees. Now exactly what Alan said was going to happen is happening and it's another horrible disaster. Yeah Nintendo is horrible but smash really does sabotage itself through toxicity and mob mentality. Not to mention the community was so horrible to Alan that he had to move houses because of the death threats/harrassment he received.

Players of most fighting games will cross between games by different publishers. Capcom, SNK, Namco, Netherrealm and Arc System Works are all competing for the player base at large, so each one has to play nice with that fanbase to avoid losing ground to the others. But Smash? Smash is a captive audience. Playstation All-Stars, CN Punchtime, Nick All-Stars, and MultiVersus have all proven that Smash players only want to play Smash, and nothing else. So what does Nintendo lose by doing this? Is everyone going to switch to Rivals of Aether now? "Platform fighter" isn't a genre, it's a single series, and that means the owner of that series is going to do whatever it feels like. It sucks, but as long as Smash players keep turning up their noses at any competing titles, this is how it's going to be.
