Well, the way the gaming industry is now I do not agree that piracy is always bad. If I purchase a digital copy of a game and then the game is removed from my library by a 3rd party, like Sony... then I'm going to pirate that game I already paid for and should own a perpetual license for.

I personally think that's different though. I should be more clear. If you've purchased a game and it is taken from you or deleted, finding a way of getting the file back isn't piracy in my opinion. I consider piracy to be when you never purchased the game/media at all and went out and found a way to obtain it anyway.

@@GarrettCrespo I agree with that assessment. However, the direction the gaming industry is headed may change my thoughts on it some. There have been rumors that these big companies want to essentially do away with the selling of perpetual licenses and move everything to a "streaming model" when the technology is up to par. If this happens, and depending on how it's implemented, it could have a huge impact on what I would consider moral or not in the piracy department.

I do understand that. I can only take a proper position on what I see at the moment. My opinion may change as companies change their approach, but I can only really speak to what’s happening right now.

See, my issue is that they have ALL the rights to sue the emulators because THEY DO enable piracy. But the even bigger issue I have is that they sued them for games that... Aren't in production anymore? I think they're perfectly fine for going against Yuzu because games are still being made for switch! But why Citra? 3DSs arent in production anymore. That's like going for Dolphin because of the GameCube emulation

My approach is to try and purchase the game disc, cartridge, or whatever, first. Every time. After that, I’ve paid for it, so I’ll download it and emulate it. But a game has to be super obscure, rare, etc. for me to even glance at the idea of piracy. Even then, I don’t do it.

And he was obviously wrong, as virtually every PC game is cracked and pirated almost immediately upon release regardless of how convenient steam is, and many Yuzu pirates openly say they never had any intention of ever buying anything from Nintnedo. Though I understand it makes you feel better about stealing.

Exactly. I 100% agree that piracy is a terrible thing and Nintendo has every right to defend their IP. But they need to also stop actively preventing passionate fans from playing the IP that Nintendo themselves have shelved and aren’t supporting anymore.

@@GarrettCrespo I've been watching this unfold all over the place and you've had more or less the best take I've seen anywhere. Although broadly speaking I would disagree that emulation many times "provides a better experience than even original hardware" that's more a philosophical difference than anything. I would argue that, for example, raising a 20fps game to 60 fps really qualifies as a different game entirely. Anywho, sub earned.
