Easier to scale up 3D graphics than 2D graphics, the fact that the first game is in 2D is apparently why it never got upscaled to HD. I think that reason is pure BS myself but due to limited knowledge on the subject, I'm not in a position to argue it.

I made a group of truly memorable friends from San Francisco back in the day when I played Maple Story for hours on end. Although I was on the East Coast, we always found time to chat and play after school and weekends. Coincidentally they went to the same high school as my former supervisor and her brother during the years he attended that school! Looking back at it and every other memorable time in my life, it wasn't the smooth game play and flashy animations that got me addicted, it was knowing that I could log on and make friends to chill out with. These days, I just don't feel the same way playing video games. Perhaps I simply grew out of it.

The early mmo craze came out of the fact that the internet was still newish, and people loved just talking to others around the world. The medium of a different world where you go to talk and hang out with friends was what enticed people to Maplestory and many other games. As time went on the gaming market simply grew away from that, Social media and cell phones made communication easier and people got used to the idea that they can talk to others miles away. People don't tend to grow out of what they enjoyed from their childhood, the world just evolves over time to something else.

I was utterly *addicted* to MapleStory back in the day. I remember grinding my Assassin up to Hermit at zombies... I was getting like 10% of a level an hour grinding. Then when you would die, you would lose a good 30 minutes of grinding, 4 or 5% of your exp. This was back in probably 2005 or so, back when there were only a handful of classes, 3rd jobs, and Ludi was the only PQ. Since then, there's all these new classes and you can level up to lvl 70 in a week or two of casual playing. I played Maple 2 when it released and it was pretty fun, but those kind of games are not for me anymore. I remember hearing about the DS Maple, but there wasn't any way for me to play it in English at the time. Maybe I'll try out that 3DS version sometime. Thanks for the nostalgia, DYK.

Also complaining about gear score is dumb af because they've made it insanely easy to progress outside of dungeons now having concurrent players enough to run them. I've never really involved myself with the communities on either ms1 or2, but every communities toxic af. Like bruh name ONE game community that doesnt have shit people in it.
