All of these demos look amazing, even for 2000/2001 standards. The Luigi’s Mansion and Mario 128 demos are one of my favorites. I wish I was there too lol, I think there’s also an English version of Meowth’s Party made for a Pokémon TV show reusing the SpaceWorld 2000 footage and adding new ones.

I agree, this might be the "best console unveil ever", for all its cheese it was a lot of fun, which is what this kind of thing is supposed to be all about. It also helped that they managed to keep the name and the design of the console and the controller totally secret until the reveal. Before the reveal, we only knew that it was a cube and might be called something cube (Starcube was the word on the street in the hours or days or two before the conference). I'm glad you like the video and please stay tuned for more.

@AdamDoree
@AdamDoree Жыл бұрын
yeah, I too wish N's games looked like the Mario movie - and maybe they will in 5 gens from now - but also happy to know they're so stable they'll be making games forever, instead of making the next Cell processor. Realistically though, I do wish for a balance, that they would push themselves on visual fidelity in the next cycle.
@LordYggdrasill
@LordYggdrasill Жыл бұрын
@@AdamDoree Yeah - I mean, I still want them to try to innovate as they've done countless times throughout their history; however, instead of generally keeping up with the industry standard of graphics, size 2006 with the Wii, they've decided to be at least 1-2 generations behind that curve. Just yesterday, it was reported that Bobby Kotick (Acti-Blizz CEO) said Nintendo's next console will be close to Gen 8 in power... so, if that's true, it's another half-step after the current gen consoles enter their 3rd or 4th year. I like that Switch is portable, but now that it's been so successful, I don't see them ditching that functionality with their next console, which results in more bottlenecking. I'd gladly trade off console portability for PS5 graphics on a new Wave Race or F-Zero, but we haven't even seen these franchises since the GameCube.

@@AdamDoree thanks for replying, btw what method did you use to deinterlace the video without it loosing resolution
@AdamDoree
@AdamDoree Жыл бұрын
@@kamikazilucas My take is Premier is pretty good at handling interlaced DV source material for progressive output, which is what these tapes were - as compared to a DVD rip for example which definitely requires its own standalone deinterlacing step to avoid ugly/obvious combing artifacts (when I have done that on a small portion of other videos -- due to archives being DVD video based -- I used "Handbrake", but didn't on any of this DV-based material). Semi related, there is also the issue my DV source tapes in the early days were all PAL. On that, here is what I posted in a response on my Mario 128 video: "basically the deinterlaced "50fps" is expanded to 60fps using Premier frame sampling in a 60fps timebase project (so duplicated frames, not blended frames or inserted mid frames), however, the "ghosting" effect that can be seen in some of the motion is not resampling related, but originally existed in the the raw DV source footage, i.e. just the way it was shot... perhaps in part because PAL(50) cam I used on those days cam was used to shoot NTSC(60) screen (though you can still pick up "ghosting" even when shooting NTSC on NTSC!). Basically, if we had direct feed of these Spaceworld demos, you would not see ghosting. Unless we are talking about Luigi's Mansion one, which definitely has some ghost effects."

No, all foreign media had the option to use radio ear pieces, into which NCL PR guru Yasuhiro Minagawa translated the whole thing. Sadly we were unable to capture it. In my Ken Kutaragi keynote videos, you can see that in later years I learned how to capture direct feed audio at these events even in dual language (and direct feed audio+video at major conferences). Sadly that was beyond my knowledge in 2000, I was really just winging it.

The demo section of this video is pretty much 99.9% "complete", as for whether Nintendo issued a direct feed of it, the answer is yes but only a very short clip and only in the bad web quality of the era at source (in other words, far worse than these offscreen captures in my videos). There was no direct feed video link on site at the conference itself, AFAIK.

@AdamDoree

Some people have been asking me about "copyright strikes" which is not accurate. Allow me to clarify some points: while I'm happy people have wanted to share my content over the years (a lot of which has always been available on my site), I've been putting my content on my own YT channel, at much better source quality -- that's better for fans, and fairer for me as I put all the work in originally (I personally recorded this footage in 2000, and if I hadn't, there would be no record of things like the Banjo clip, period) -- people may not realize that material like this represents a vast amount of work, effort and financial expense over the years, yet 100s of my videos (including very short and low quality clips from this video), have been uploaded to other people's YT channels over the years without permission, and I ignored it, until now as I'm making source material officially available on my YT. I'm not a big channel and not even monetized, but fair is fair. I'm also NOT not issuing "strikes" (which the person who claimed that has since clarified), YT only offers two ways to handle this, a nice way and a strike; I'm doing the nice way (and even reaching out to individual channels in some cases where possible!), and most uploaders have been very supportive and understanding. I've also seen someone question the copyright of some clips without really understanding how copyright works: yes, the recording shows IP owned by the relevant companies, but the recording itself is my work/copyright, which YT obviously recognizes too -- whereas none of the other users who have uploaded my video(s) to their channels, actually spent the money to go to Japan, figure out what was hot at Spaceworld and film it, or originally publish/distribute the video (which, in 2000s era, was extremely expensive btw). And all of this applies to 1000s of my other videos too. So I want to get back to people enjoying this stuff. I think it’s pretty obvious that I care about preservation which is why I maintain an extensive archive and keep adding more source quality stuff to YT, in parallel to that I also don't want countless low quality reposts of my stuff out there when I have published the real thing; there's a fine line between preservation and ripping off with no added value/context whatsoever which is basically what the 7 channels who posted the Banjo clip have all done (by contrast, there are other channels who have made videos about Rare IP of the era and used my old clip in a fair use editorial context, which is generally fine and I would never raise an issue on reasonable use of content). Again this is not about monetization (I am also unmonetized), this is about internationally recognized standards of fair use on content that "someone" originally went to the effort to record and publish.
