The current model for triple AAA games can't be sustained because of the extremely high costs involved. This is where Nintendo's games that have simpler looking graphics benefits from lower costs in development. Their game design philosophy is also based on fun mechanics as a primary focus, which makes their games fun to play. I think as the years go by, we'll see many devs shut-down, while Nintendo thrives for years to come.
@pablocasas59062 ай бұрын
I still remember when Miyamoto mentioned that Breath of the Wild had to sell over 2 million copies in order for Nintendo to recoup the development costs and make a profit, I don't think other AAA games from developers like Square-Enix and Capcom can be the same
@stormyandcold2 ай бұрын
@@pablocasas5906 The way they started that development was still low-cost, bringing back nes/snes like graphics to prototype the gameplay mechanics before realising their vision in 3D. Very few companies can afford to do that because of time constraints. Nintendo and indie studios can. With other studios there is a lot more urgency and having to pool together huge teams and lots of crunch to get to the finish line. It cannot continue forever. At some point the costs will be too much and we will wait years between releases.

100% on point and accurate assessment. I fully agree. The fact they dropping such epic ports and remasters THIS LATE in the Switch's life and with even greater Switch 1 titles for 2025; confirms backwards compatibility for the next Switch to be a core feature. You don't drop games that people have been waiting decades to play again (Capcom Fighting Collection 2, MVC Collection) and then keep em stuck on the console that's about to end. The fact Capcom is only making a Switch and PS4 console versions pf their recent collection and not PS5; is because it not necessary due to backwards compatibility. Switch 1 will be getting games for years after Switch 2 launches; as long as it can run on both (indies, retro games and PS3 and below ports). This even gives them reason to release an even more portable and battery life optimized version of the Switch Lite if they want (maybe with HDMI out). Either way; it all seems clear what they doing and the hype is real.

I'm not very familiar with the Yakuza/Like a Dragon Series, but I've seen people in various forums claiming this port is just a quick cash-in due to the fact that the Yakuza live-action series in Prime Video is releasing soon and perhaps SEGA is hoping that those who watch it but never played a game in the series before will want to try it, and since the Switch is one of the best-selling consoles of all time it makes sense that the game is available there. Considering the comments made by the Yakuza's developers in the past, I don't think they care too much about Nintendo consoles, but if Kiwami does sell well, maybe they'll port some other games from the Yakuza series to the Switch or they'll have them ready for the Switch 2

If the Switch 2 is what it should be (a dramatic improvement on the current platform) then it's reasonable to assume it will have similar sales to the Switch which means a lot of sales potential for developers that want to put their games on a Nintendo platform.

I think something that doesn't get mentioned but worked really well for them was Nintendo going on about games (standard, fair enough) but when NVidia were saying how happy they were with the system, that techhead angle is something nintendo never really touch outside of advertising taglines like 'playing with power' which didin't reeeally mean anything lol. If Mr Jensen waxes lyrical about how many dev days the system took again, there are so many that will lap that up.

As Nintendo naturally progress their hardware capabilities, we will see more and more studios come on board. Even if the Switch 2 is further out from the PS5/Pro or whatever, the new baseline for development will be easier than it is for the current Switch. With budgets getting out of control and big games failing to meet certain expectations, the Switch 2 could be another avenue for studios that passed up Nintendo platforms in the past. There's a lot of untapped potential like say a new mainline Final Fantasy back on a NIntendo platform. Those declining sales in Japan could turn around with a Switch 2 for example.

Nah, I think Konami could be one of the best supporters of Nintendo's next console, they were amongst the first developers who released games on the original Switch like Super Bomberman R and in Japan they had tons of success with games like Momotaro Dentetsu and its sequel, and the recently released Power Pros 2024, not to mention the Castlevania, Contra and Metal Gear Collections they released, I think there's a great possibility that Metal Gear Solid 3 Delta will arrive on the Switch 2 Capcom will probably port all of the Resident Evil games post VII, as well as Devil May Cry V, Street Fighter 6 and perhaps Monster Hunter World, though I think they should try to release Wilds, but if they can't I don't know if it would be possible for them to make a Switch 2 exclusive MH game like they did with Rise, since it would have to be more in line with World in terms of scope.

With their portable consoles they have a better track record, the Game Boy Advance was fully compatible with all Game Boy and GB Color games, they added a GBA cart reader on the original DS and DS Lite and the 3DS was compatible with all DS games

You said Japanese developers. The issue imo has always been western devs. The COD, GTA, madden, etc. until we get those type games consistently we will still be in the same position. Developers choose when they want to support Nintendo and when they don’t. It only takes one game not selling well for some publishers to drop all support. There is a lot of work still to be done. Though I’m excited for S2.
@pablocasas59062 ай бұрын
I honestly think Western game developers have been more consistent on the Switch compared to Japanese ones, I mean, the Switch managed to get ports of games such as Doom '16 and Doom Eternal, and Mortal Komba 11 and 1 came out at the same time as in other consoles as opposed to Guilty Gear: Strive which will come out on Switch 4 years after its original release (though to be fair, Strive looks like it'll run better than MK) Still, it seems various Japanese developers seem to have avoided the Switch despite the fact that their games could have run and sold quite decently, and I'm not buying the excuse that most of them are waiting for Nintendo's next console, games like Persona 3 Reload and Visions of Mana should have been released on Switch alongside the other consoles

@@Peace1dy well, I think one of Activision's representatives mentioned the company regrets not having supported the system, citing the lack of CoD games, I know that they're part of Microsoft now, but they're obligated to lauch CoD on other consoles, including Nintendo, for the next ten years, so I imagine we'll see CoD on Nintendo's next console. With GTA, I think the reason why GTA V wasn't ported to the Switch, despite the fact the original being on the PS3 and 360, was due to the online aspect. Having GTA VI on the next Switch could be huge for both Nintendo and Rockstar, but I don't know if the game could run, but Rockstar could at least port GTA V and RDR2 to it. In regards to Electronic Arts, I agree they have given the Switch the least support among Western publishers, aside from legacy editions of FIFA, though at least the lastest EA Sports FC had more content, there's ton of their games missing, like Mass Effect.

@@Peace1dy I wonder if perhaps Sony will try to pay for more exclusives if the Switch's successor becomes a huge hit from the start, I've been hearing some rumors, though it seems Sony has been doing this ages ago, that they secretly pay some developers to not release their games on Xbox or PC, like, they don't have a total exclusivity deal, but developers just release their games on PS and nothing else. It seems Microsoft also gives developers incentives to release their games on Xbox, but Nintendo is the only major player that doesn't pays for third-party games to appear on their consoles, with very few exceptions, which makes sense since they sell millions of firtst-party software on their own hardware, as opossed to Sony and MS who rely more on third-party software

Yeah, that Guilty Gear: Strive banner leak took me by surprise, I though that Arc System Works mentioned that Strive couldn't run on Switch, but that's the same words some developers said with games like Jump Force, for example. I've already seen people saying that GG: Strive would be a better fit for the Switch 2, that the game will have lots of performance issues, that it won't have crossplay or rollback, and while those are legitimate complaints, porting fighting games into weaker hardware has been a thing since the Game Boy days where the system got ports of games such as Mortal Kombat, Killer Instinct and The King of Fighters. Not to mention the Switch has become a popular system for fighting games, whether or not Smash Bros. counts as a fighting game, the Switch got things like Ultra Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Anniversary Collection, Capcom Fighting Collection 1 & 2, SNK vs. Capcom Chaos, The King of Fighters XIII, Mortal Kombat 11 and there's plenty of AcrSys games like BlazBlue: Cross Tag Battle, Dragon Ball FighterZ, BlazBlue: Central Fiction and DNF Duel. Even despite its major technical flaws, Mortal Kombat 1 seemed to have sold well on Switch, I think the Switch 2 will receive some ports of games like Street Fighter VI, The King of Fighters XV, Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, and I wish Namco would release Tekken 8 and SEGA a new Virtua Fighter for the Switch 2, since there aren't any 3D fighters on Switch, not even a Dead or Alive game that isn't a volleyball spin-off
