With the Switch 2 having the option to play Switch games through backwards compatibility, I hope there’s an option to allow said Switch games to have better performance on the Switch 2. Sort of like how Xbox backwards compatibility works where some games have the option to run at higher resolution and frame rates on the Xbox Series consoles. It would be great not only for the Switch version of Sonic games like Frontiers or Shadow Generations, but other 1st and 3rd party titles too.

I think the main reason to why they don't remaster Unleashed already is because Unleashed had a very mixed to bad reception overall, so it wouldn't be out of this world to think SEGA is avoiding their "worse" games.

3:25 I personally wouldn't want that to happen just yet, mostly because consoles like the ps5 are extremely expensive for some people and if companies were to just cut off last gen consoles when a huge amount of people still use them, it would overall impact negatively. This might be a bit biased since I own a ps4 for myself, but I still personally think that, until there is a price drop in mist new gen consoles for enough people to afford it, last gen consoles should still be used.

It's been a while and what determines if last gen gets a port is whether the game can run on it and whether it still sells. I'd rather not see it on those consoles considering how bad the CPU is on the PS4 and Xbox One. The Switch 2 will most certainly have more RAM, a much faster CPU, and similar GPU performance.

i think frontires is ultimatly unfair here, because it wasn't the switch that held it back, but shoving in a bunch of random game objects in the final year that kinda crippled what they could do, do too much, and the engine would just actualy expload, and they way over stuffed it with the random game objects, EG, the platforms. while the enemy thing is valid, those floating platforms will ultimately be the ultimate ram eater. not to mention the whole thing where you have to pay for higher storage on the switch cards, unlike a blueray disk, which will likly carry over to the switch 2

sonic team probably managed to simmer down the graphical demands with generations. i remember unleashed would occasionally freeze up when playing on my xbox 360. but generations doesn't do that nor suffer much performance drops on said console. that's how much graphically intense unleashed is.

Yes. If you play both it's pretty clear that Sonic team downgraded the graphics in Gens to get it to run well. Unleashed, for all of it's beauty, ran like crap on 360 and especially PS3. Things like lighting, motion blur, geometry and polygonal detail, and model quality all took a hit in Generations

I do have a feeling that Sega will be Sega and re-release Sonic Frontiers for the Switch 2 at launch with all of the DLC, including the Monster Hunter cooking minigame,60 FPS,and small improvements with graphics and animation. They could even have Nintendo exclusive content, which could be either a Breath of The Wild Link outfit for Sonic,new Cyberspace levels based on games like Donkey Kong Country or Super Mario Odyssey,or they could be weird and have characters from The Legendary Starfy as new fish for the Big The Cat fishing minigame. Sonic Frontiers is one of the most successful Sonic games in Japan,The legendary Starfy is mostly a japanese-exclusive franchise with the fifth game being the only one localized,match made in heaven honestly.

Games primarily built for one system tend to look better than those built for multiple. The Switch version was most certainly taken from the PS4 version as a base and cut out effects until it ran. Xenoblade was built for the switch and takes advantage of it's strengths and weaknesses as they don't need to downgrade it from the target hardware

Ah, ah, ah, that’s not entirely true. Sega spent years focusing mostly on lighting with the Hedgehog Engine 2 instead of addressing more intricate things the engine needed. Scalability is likely a big issue they’re dealing with. They’ll still port to Xbox One/PS4 because of the user base, so we’ll continue to see a lot of multiplatform games. To simplify everything, they should start with next-gen and scale backward to limit the compromises for new hardware.

About the point on Sonic Team leaving behind Switch 1, PS4 and Xbox One...yeah that isn't going to happen. Takashi Iizuka was asked a question on if Sonic Team was going to leave behind last gen soon, and he said no. He wants as many versions of a Sonic game as possible due to reaching a wider audience of players. There are still Xbox One and PS4 players out there who don't feel the need to make the jump to the next gen consoles, so it'd be ill-advised to leave those players behind. Truth is, once the Nintendo Switch is left behind by Nintendo themselves, then you'll see other companies follow accordingly. The leap from PS4 - PS5...just isn't that big. The upgrades aren't being shown in the graphics anymore, it's more so performance and resolution. PS4 and Xbox One versions will still be made in the future as long as there is still a wide gap between last gen and new gen. Not trying to have a go or anything, just wanna bring this point up.

It wasn't on Sony and Microsoft. It's on the audience still buying games for last gen. It's why the PS2 lasted until 2013 and the Wii up until around 2018 for games. Publishers didn't want to leave behind their large last gen user base

@@sparkz992 The fact that the PS2 even got games up until 2013 shows how the numbers were at least high enough to warrant it still getting games. Of course the last year always showcases the lowest number of players but it's hard to say. It's always about the user base. If they refuse to move on there is nothing they can do other than trying to incentivize them to move on. Another big reason why there is so much cross gen is due to multiplayer games. Many people see no reason the move on when the only games they play are still being updated on PS4 like Fortnite and Call of Duty. These types of games were not present during the 6th gen and were far less prominent during the 7th generation onto the 8th gen. The 8th generation is really where the live service model really took off. Those games are constantly being updated leading to a situation where people don't want to move on as long as the game on the console they own still gets updated with new content. Previously that was restricted to the new games so if you wanted the new features you had to get the next game in the franchise.

They have strayed away from cgi ever since frontiers, the last time we actually got cgi was the sxsg generations teaser trailer which was just an extended few seconds of the original. All the cutscences in game look good enough. We don't need cgi anymore

CG is expensive that's why it's not really there. There's also the reality that video games look significantly better so there's not as much of a need for CG cutscenes since you can make in game cutscenes look so good with the proper light placement. Real time cutscenes from Shadow Gens look significantly better than all the CG cutscenes prior to Shadow the Hedgehog back in 2005

Regardless of what the leaks say, I'm honestly expecting the 'upgrade' of the Switch 2's hardware compared to the Switch 1's to be so incremental that it won't make enough of a difference to even matter and Sonic games will still be held back from their full potential as a result. The only benefit to buying the Switch 2 will be the same benefit as buying ANY new Nintendo console - the ever-increasingly expensive privilege of keeping up with new first-party Nintendo releases. Edit: I say all this as a Nintendo fan, by the way, before anyone calls me a 'hater'. I get enough of that crap from Pokémon's psychotic white knights, thank you very much.

Switch is quite a bit more powerful than the Xbox 360 and specs likely have nothing to do with it. The Wii U could have run Unleashed at least on par with the Xbox 360 and the Switch has more power than the Wii U. Also the Switch 2 will still have graphical compromises but to a lesser degree as handhelds still have a lot less power. I also don't want to see Sonic games exclusive to one platform again. I think the main reason for Unleashed not being rereleased has to do possibly with the voice cast. We do know that Jason Griffith didn't leave on the best terms. I don't want them to redo the voices again as I think the original voice cast is still top tier. The Japanese and english Sonic X voice casts are still by far my favorite in the franchise depsite me growing up with Ryan Drummod in SA1. Also I don't like the art direction of Frontiers as I think it's too far from how Sonic should look. My ideal look is a mix of Sonic 06, Unleashed, and Sonic Adventure. I love Unleashed in terms of world design as it's more like stylized realism, I like the way Sonic 06 designed some of it's level themes, and I think Adventure 1 has the best human designs. I also think that the way Square Enix designs humans and the way Elise looks, not Eggman, lend itself well to Sonic's world while also slightly stylizing them without making Sonic and friends look out of place. The lack of humans in Sonic has been bothering me ever since they disappeared after Unleashed. Makes no sense as Sonic's world is supposed to be earth as shown by the Adventure 1 and 2 and Unleashed. It's not technically supposed to be like Forces as that's closer to the American archie style world which in Sega of Japan never intended to do.

As someone who has the Switch version of Sonic Frontiers...yeah it's not the best. Hopefully the Switch 2 can upgrade the graphics/fps but we'll see.

I hope frontiers gets a switch 2 upgrade and the others too Graphics isnt my issue with unleashed, its how true they stay to the vibe If they add electricity to some commercial i might crash but ill be ok My big concern is if they change the lines like in gens, i mean tbf og gens had a bad story overall and i prefer the new one so maybe thats why they changed it, and unleashed is pretty true to sonic so they dont need changes, but idk im still scared their gonna mess with unleashed

I disagree with the fact the switch held sonic team back. 06 was only on next gen systems and it looked utterly horrible, i think it’s just a matter of sonic team incompetence as well as sega rushing games out the door.

Forces and Unleahsed HD version were also next gen only as well too. The SD versions of Unleashed were made by a separate team and Forces released on PS4 and Xbox One well before they decided to make a Switch version

I don't think this Console is gonna be Upgraded version of Switch 1 cuz of that, Wii U is literally Disappointing for getting Lower Home Consloe Selling of all Time even lower then GameCube itself, the Wii U was released as a Downgrade version Wii to be completely Big Oops.

Why wouldn't it be a upgraded version? Nintendo is keen on making sure they don't make the same mistakes as they did during the Wii U. The Wii U is exactly what they don't want as they don't have another console to be the crutch. Wii U failed due to poor marketing.

I hate to say it but I dont think this is the case, I think switch 1 will still be supported, racing cross worlds is on switch one I think sega is being themselves and wanting to just make more money so there more focused on sales then game quality

3:20 if the switch 2 is as powerful as a ps4 then they probably can make a ps4 version And given the instal size of 118 million ps4 owners they probably have enough people willing to buy a ps4 sonic game in 2026

Switch 2 is much more powerful than PlayStation 4. The installed base is not the same as the active users still using the Console. Otherwise according to your logic Sega should have released the Sonic games from the Wii and 3DS on the PlayStation 2, games like: Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. Sonic and the Black Knight. Sonic and the Secret Rings. Sonic Colors. Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode I. Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice. Sonic Boom: Shattered Crystal. Sonic Generations. Sonic Lost World.

IlSEGA will finally ditch the original Nintendo switch and move on to the switch 2! No more future Sonic on the original switch! We can finally get our Sonic Unleashed remaster as beautiful on switch 2 with those ps4 pro specs! Also, If it’s like Sonic X Dhadow generations type of remaster, they will remaster the Xbox version of it to 4k with Updated textures and lighting but not like colors ultimate, and not changing the dialogue (PLEASE SEGA, PLEASE DONT REWRITE DIALOUGES OR THE STORY, it’s perfect as is, and keep the original 4Kids cast please!) and if they wanna do a shadow generations move, they should also pack it with a Sonic Unleashed WII version remake with more polish and improvements from the original Wii version! Then we can select wich version we wanna play first! The Xbox or Wii version! Like selecting Sonic or shadow generations! And with the switch 2, we can get it at its fullest potential with 60fps, no more original switch! I bet it would be a big good move from Sega to remaster/remake both versions Sonic unleashed as one package like Sonic X shadow generations! All modern consoles like PS5, Xbox series, Pc especially, and ofc the switch 2 and no original switch holding back the game! What do you think! Should they remaster/remake both versions as one package??
