Nintendo Switch WiFi / Internet Connection Issues : Reasons & 7 Fixes / Solutions

So a few weeks back I tried to install a new MicroSD card in my Nintendo Switch, and this resulted in my Switch refusing to connect to the internet, and refusing to let me use the Micro SD card without an update. I had to go through a long process through other KZbin videos, online articles, and forum posts, to figure out how to solve the problem - which was related to the DNS problems. I compiled all the information I found into this video in the hopes it might help out anyone else who comes across the problem. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! Changing the DNS to 008 worked I was so scared I would mess something up with my switch while just in the process of trying to get it to connect to my router. I think the reason it stopped working with my internet is because I always keep it on sleep mode. I’ll be sure to shut it down completely after I game from now on.

Hey! For me, it was my router’s access control, so this is what you should try to do if it’s still not connecting. 1) Find your router’s IP address, can be within an app you use (Nighthawk, Xfinity, Etc), or it can be on the bottom of your router 2) Type that IP address into your internet browser and click search 3) It will bring you to a login screen, the user is Admin, password is “password”, then it will take you to another screen where you will answer security questions but then create an account to be able to login to your router account. 4) once you’re there, there will be a side bar that says, “attached devices” go there and at the top right you’ll see “access control” click that and then you’ll see where it’s turned on, uncheck that turned on access control and click save and your switch should connect! Mine did!

Every video I find is about NOT connecting to the wifi. Mine connects just fine, but the wifi doesn't work. My wifi has worked with this switch for a very long time, and we have 2 separate wifis aswell, both refuse to work. It can't be our wifi because it works perfectly fine on the computer, smart TV, etc. It's ONLY the switch. And it cant be the sd card because all 3 switches we have will connect to both wifi, but won't play anything online, won't download anything, and won't even test connection. I've tried every solution online, looked for corrupted files, cleared cache, re-download game(Which is how I discovered the won't download problem) shut off wifi for a few minutes, shut off switch for a few minutes, took off the wifi and found it again, turn on airplane mode (Which works in order to actually load into online games, just won't let you do online features) literally NOTHING works. The Nintendo servers aren't down apparently, and yet our perfectly good wifi will not work. It did rain heavily a day before this started. If it truly is a problem only in the area, why isn't it fixed yet? It's been a day. Now it's turning into 2.

@@jxsue8582 I use a broadband modem for my internet (given by my internet provider). It has the SSID, Security Type, and Key/Passphrase on the back of it. I had use the original key to get internet access on my nintendo switch instead of the new password I replaced it with. It's strange that the new password I use works with my other devices for internet access but not with the nintendo switch. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The issue I have is that, while my Switch does say it is connected to the internet and has full bars, it can not complete a single connection test and error code 2160-8028 pops up stating ‘unable to connect. There is no response from server. Try again later’.

I had been manually putting in the IP and DNS settings and that wasn't working. The final step gave me the idea to leave the IP settings as automatic and just do the DNS manually, and it worked! Thanks so much!

I just recently found out, that if it happens after you wake it up, you just leave it for awhile, the WiFi signal will eventually active (Sometimes took me about 1 or 2 min). So that's what ive been doing ever since.

I had no problem using the internet even uploaded several photos with it. Been using the internet a whole month, suddenly it stopped connecting, i thought its because of my weak wifi, but im connecting to it through other devices just fine. I have not changed any sd cards. might too late, but i actually have 1 more method to try (actually combined method of you lol). my problem was switch test connection is working as expected (can connect to wifi and internet), but when opening online games/youtube, it cant connect to internet. Since reset network and turn off-on switch dont work, i combined the method and it worked for me: 1. forget/clear your wifi network setting (dont reconnect it) 2. shut down your switch 3. wait for some minutes, 5 minutes might fine. 4. turn it back on. 5. reconnect to your wifi. Hope this helps. ☺

Sorry to hear that, you did every single step outlined and tried both 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 in the final step? If so, it looks like there’s some bigger issue with the Switch. Okay so I was scared that this issue was going to affect my switch for a while but what worked for me was changing the DNS to manual and like configuring the DNS values. Then after a while I changed the DNS back to automatic and that ended up fixing my problem. I did do other troubleshooting before so I'm not sure if that's the exact solution but yeah thank you for the video regardless and maybe this could help someone.
