Nintendo Switch WiFi / Internet Connection Issues : Reasons & 7 Fixes / Solutions

So a few weeks back I tried to install a new MicroSD card in my Nintendo Switch, and this resulted in my Switch refusing to connect to the internet, and refusing to let me use the Micro SD card without an update. I had to go through a long process through other KZbin videos, online articles, and forum posts, to figure out how to solve the problem - which was related to the DNS problems. I compiled all the information I found into this video in the hopes it might help out anyone else who comes across the problem. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much! Changing the DNS to 008 worked I was so scared I would mess something up with my switch while just in the process of trying to get it to connect to my router. I think the reason it stopped working with my internet is because I always keep it on sleep mode. I’ll be sure to shut it down completely after I game from now on.

Hey! For me, it was my router’s access control, so this is what you should try to do if it’s still not connecting. 1) Find your router’s IP address, can be within an app you use (Nighthawk, Xfinity, Etc), or it can be on the bottom of your router 2) Type that IP address into your internet browser and click search 3) It will bring you to a login screen, the user is Admin, password is “password”, then it will take you to another screen where you will answer security questions but then create an account to be able to login to your router account. 4) once you’re there, there will be a side bar that says, “attached devices” go there and at the top right you’ll see “access control” click that and then you’ll see where it’s turned on, uncheck that turned on access control and click save and your switch should connect! Mine did!

I upgraded my modem/router tonight from the ancient hardware I used to have. Everything connects just fine to it except, of course, my Nintendo switch, which worked with my old modem. None of your solutions have worked for me but I appreciate your hard work nonetheless

Try using the passphrase on your modem. That worked for me.

@@jxsue8582 I use a broadband modem for my internet (given by my internet provider). It has the SSID, Security Type, and Key/Passphrase on the back of it. I had use the original key to get internet access on my nintendo switch instead of the new password I replaced it with. It's strange that the new password I use works with my other devices for internet access but not with the nintendo switch. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I just recently found out, that if it happens after you wake it up, you just leave it for awhile, the WiFi signal will eventually active (Sometimes took me about 1 or 2 min). So that's what ive been doing ever since.

It was raining pretty hard, then all of the sudden, all of my devices just stopped connecting to the internet. I assumed it was normal since it was raining hard. I waited until the rain stopped and connected all my devices back, my phone, PC, etc. But for some reason my switch never connected back. It is pretty frustrating since everything else works but not my switch. But thank you again!

I had been manually putting in the IP and DNS settings and that wasn't working. The final step gave me the idea to leave the IP settings as automatic and just do the DNS manually, and it worked! Thanks so much!

I had no problem using the internet even uploaded several photos with it. Been using the internet a whole month, suddenly it stopped connecting, i thought its because of my weak wifi, but im connecting to it through other devices just fine. I have not changed any sd cards. So, I've tried all these steps. Didnt work. Called Nintendo for support and this guy helped me for an hour (he was awesome) and no trouble shootings worked. We came to the conclusion that the modem is the problem and see if theres a firmware update for it or factory reset it

Sorry to hear that, you did every single step outlined and tried both 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8 in the final step? If so, it looks like there’s some bigger issue with the Switch. If you get it working let us know so others can benefit from the knowledge, so far these are the only methods that come up as working to fix the issue that we know of

Try configuring your router/modem and look for dns settings and type those dns servers in.

I had the same problem. Just got mine and tried to connect to the internet and it wouldn't work. The normal password I used for all my other devices worked but not for the nintendo switch. I had to go back to the original passphrase that's printed on my modem and bam, it worked.
