Ahh the classics. Good stuff. Never actually played the contra games. Of course. I didn't come around to console stuff until the N64 era. Most of the older games that I played were on the Gameboy and Gameboy color. I was mostly a handheld gamer... :)

Tim is an amazong classic gamer. Watching him play Super Star Wars so easily is when i realised this. As a kid i played thise games a ton and could only beat a few levels of each. Even my step dad had a really hard time beating it.

This is awesome. Me and my best friend Adam set up a VHS and recorded me beating Contra in one life we both were 12 at the time. I wish I had that tape. Unfortunately my best friend took his own life years later. Watching this brought back so many memories. Thank you.

Oh man memories.... I remember playing this level at 3:15 Gave me a lot of stress and you gotta be careful because If not you will play the early stages over and over but later when you get better at it, it gets really more fun. But later I mean years later when i got the emulator with the live cheats and 30 live cheats, also made the game sort of fun too in its own way at least it would take the stress away😅

Hearing you talking about playing games with your Mom makes me smile. My mom and I played the entire Metroid series (Got her Other M for her Birthday this year) together, and we used to do the Contra thing with Gradius III on the SNES. Keep at it my friend :)

NCS isn't bad, he just doesn't really play to win and go all tryhard. Where Jon and Emily (Yer, I know it is Emile, just referencing an old joke he made) try hard to win and such, Tim is just laid back laughing and enjoying it all. At the end of the day, if Jon or Emily loses, they get a bit salty, Tim just smiles.

@Helfinator Contra Rebirth is flippin amazing! I has graphics from contra III with the music from the first nes contra, and the explosions from contra 4. There is so much going on, it's normal to loose track of where you are on the screen until you're dead

When I was a kid, there was this one day that I just rocked on this game. Beginning to end so many times over that I got to see how the game's notion of becoming harder went...they just throw in more and more troopers. To the point that the NES was graphicly glitching with constant flicker all over the place. I probably could never do that, again.

i was just thinking about the comment you made about a contra for the wii. it would be cool to incorporate the wii control and nunchuck, use the nunchuck to move like a d/pad but with the stick, and aim and shoot with the sensor, and fire with B, jump with Z, switch power ups with A. thats how i would wet up the controls probably, perhaps switch A and Z.

There is a contra game on the wiiware actually. called contra: rebirth. it's just a frustrating as the originals and as good ol' bill in it as well as a few other random characters. there are 4 difficulty settings, easy being similar to the beginning of stage 1 and the unloackable knightmare mode (think bullet hell at this point)

I know how you could make a Contra game for the Wii. You could use the Wii controller and tilt it to determine what direction you shoot. Like, tilt it want way to tilt it one way to shoot up, and the other way to shoot down. And for the forward facing sections, it would be even more useful.

Man, I played Contra for the first time a few days ago for a just-for-fun race. That freaking Hangar stage, man. I don't know how you did it without dying, man, but that stupid hangar. I think I wasted about half my lives on just that stage. Stupid bloody spike walls, man. Rest of the game's not all that bad, but man, those walls. I was not expecting them every time.
