My old spiritual director was a life long smoker. But when I met him, he had been clean for 10 years. He said, "after a year clean, you become disgusted by the thought of relapse." He died at 75, just about 15ish years clean. I hope Tim has managed to live a clean life since his last attempt to get clean and hasn't replaced his smoking with any other unhealthy coping mechanisms. God bless!

Tim, I say this with all the love in the world… but this doesn’t even feel like an LP at this point. It makes me sad to see you rush through the game, when what I’ve loved the most about your LPs is how you really get into the game, take your time, and input your own stories in the commentary. Not sure why you wanted to speed through every thing, but just know we like the slow paced “boring” stuff! That’s what makes you so unique and why so many of us love you and your gameplay! I’ve never played this game and I don’t have the system to play it, so I was hoping to understand the story and characters- which I feel like your LPs usually do a good job of- but I don’t really have a good idea of the story yet. It kinda feels like you don’t really enjoy the game :(

Luminous Cave in original... sucked. You had to disband everyone else and come only with whoever you want to evolve. And it doesn't quite feel like hardware limitation, given unlike the size mechanic, this was immediately abandoned in next game. Evolution Crystals are basically used to substitute any special evolution method. This sounds drastic but HOLY SHIT LET ME RANT ABOUT THE EVOLUTION METHODS IN ORIGINAL BECAUSE SOME WERE TRULY AWFUL AND YOU HAD TO DEAL WITH SO MANY OF THEM CAUSE YOU COULDN'T RECRUIT FINAL STAGES. -Level: Well, this stays the same. High level evolutions were a bit of pain, though, given you could grind levels only so fast. -Friendship: Tied to IQ, which means you just feed the Gummis. Nothing too bad, just a bit grindy. -Time-based: Use Sun/Lunar Ribbon alongside whatever other condition. These are special items that are hidden in specific post-game dungeons behind locked doors. This is nothing too terrible, as just exploring the postgame dungeons should eventually point you towards their existence. -Trade evolutions: Oh boy, this is the first kinda ass one. In certain dungeons, there are items scripted to spawn on certain floors, but if you already have that item, it gets replaced by Link Cable, which is used to evolve these guys. I do not recall the game ever telling you this, so you just have to revisit dungeons. -Feebas: Use Beauty Scarf, which like the ribbons above is behind a special locked door in a postgame dungeon. -Tyrogue: Another kinda meh one, as stat growths in these games are fixed, so you had to feed the damn guy specific stat boosters so that the stats match what it's supposed to be. -Wurmple: It's still random, and the game solves the weirdness by simply having two Wurmple inside the game that evolve into the two different guys. -Fire/Water/Thunder/Sun/Moon Stone/Dragon Scale: Randomly spawns on last floors of specific post game dungeons that can be logically linked to them. Some aren't guaranteed to spawn, but it could be worse. -Metal Coat: Also a random spawn but the dungeon they spawn isn't really obvious. -Deep Sea Scale/Tooth: They show up as scripted spawn in a certain dungeon... or as random spawn deep enough into a different dungeon. Weird honestly. -Leaf Stone/King's Rock/Upgrade: oh no no no no no no ahahahahahaha... why are these only found in kecleon shops in a hard postgame dungeon and ONLY on specific floors? what the fuck Chunsoft??? 0/5 the ultimate pain (well at least you could directly recruit Porygon2 and not have to deal with the worst one). Most dungeons in postgame are pretty long. Some are shorter than Magma Cavern, but most of them are either a bit longer or wayyyyy longer. Waterfall Pond is unlocked automatically upon clearing the story, but in original game you needed HM Waterfall to access it. Oh yeah, in the original games, and only them, some dungeons required you to have an HM (either as an item or on team). Remains Island is a special dungeon that used to require unlocking via external code but now just shows up automatically after credits roll. Originally it hosted various Flying-types, but in remake it's just a random bunch of Pokemon. Desert Region, Wyvern Hill, Darknight Relic, and Southern Cavern unlock after acquiring certain Friend Areas/camps (I'd say purchasing but... the Wyvern Hill one used to be one of the stupid "random mission reward" ones", oh boy!) Anyway welcome to postgame dungeons, where items can spawn sticky and not be immediately usable, you don't get to see things on map by default (this was technically the standard before, but I guess DX wanted to make main story easier by showing things in main story) and enemies awaken if they knock out things.
@kirby5790
@kirby5790 Күн бұрын
So after the credits, the "story" stops being linear; instead there are several more-or-less disconnected story beats to tie up though. You usually get pointed to them by town NPCs; Absol telling you to go check on the legendary birds is one such pointer. Any dungeons discovered after the credits do NOT automatically show items and enemies on the map. You instead have to find and equip X-Ray Specs on your controlled mon to get that functionality. I personally suggest, whenever you decide to do random jobs to grind, focus on those that give power-up items like Gummis and vitamins.

So, glad to see ya continuing this. The postgame is pretty fun and a bit challenging, but DX did make things simpler. A lot of dungeons got made easier and when I say easier, I mean ACTUALLY FAIR. In the originals, they were quite slogs and just not fun to be honest. I always gave up after a bit since I just found getting my butt kicked by RNG traps and bad AI a waste of my time. Kekekeke here are some tips for ya! - Go to Gulpin. He might be able to help you out with something and it is such a nice QOL for this game. - As I mentioned above, the kiddy gloves are off. Dungeons all have a flag where the information they display can be X-Ray or basic. Most dungeons in the main game are X-Ray. These dungeons give you all the information on Enemy positions, Item Positions and such. Basic information is what you see here. Enemies will not show up unless they are in the same room as the main Pokemon you are controlling and item locations are now hidden until you see it. I call them X-Ray cause the item that lets you regain the effects of the main game dungeons is called the X-Ray Specs. In the old games, that was the only way to get that effect, even in main game dungeons... and the X-Ray Specs are a reward WAY later after like more than halfway through everything in the postgame. - Take more time in the town to prep things before a dungeon. You saw here that you got caught with your pants down and things snowball incredibly quickly! It actually kinda emulates what a Rescue Team would feel like. Prep all you need to head into a dangerous location (your bag), make sure you have the right tools for the job (your moveset) and execute the plan to ensure everyone gets out alive (the exploration). Now to rant about evolution! Evolution in PMD is interesting. It is usually locked to postgame as you can see here. In the main game, stats can massively increase upon evolving. For instance going from Poocheyena to Mightyena in the main games is a 30%-60% increase in Attack (there is strange math going on here and a lot can depend on various factors, so while base stats increases from 55 -> 90, these values are only a portion of the formula). In PMD, it actually isn’t too much of a difference. As you notice you gain like +3 in all stats and a +10 in HP. That is standard, but in the grand scheme of things it is not much. You can farm stat boosting items later on and max stats is 255 in all stats and 500 in HP. What you do get when you evolve is a different learnset and for some Pokemon a different Ability. Example: Horsea > Seadra changes Swift Swim -> Poison Point. Example 2: Cloyster can learn Spike Cannon. Shellder cannot. I have a single complaint about evolving the main character and partner in DX and it's that you lose the cute ribbon that you got from your partner. If all the forms for you and your partner kept the scarf, I would be more inclined to evolve. Still… unfortunately for me, as a Grass Type lover, Grass Types benefit the most from Evolving. Fire Types get some of the best moves in the game as TMs, so they don’t really need to evolve to have some of the best moves, especially since they don’t get any ability buffs from evolving. Similarly Water Types already get access to Blizzard and Hydro Pump (a 10 space piercing attack) as their original form. In fact, some Pokemon like Mudkip actually lose access to Hydro Pump upon evolving!!! So what does Grass get… their best attacks come from level ups… as their final stage. So Venusaur and Meganium both get access to Petal Dance (hits 2-3 times, confuses the user after which is not a downside if you hold a Persim Band) and Petal Blizzard (an AOE attack). Sceptikr actually gets quite shafted as his movepool is quite poor, but you still find ways to supplement its moveset... and it gets Agility, so you can do the Link shenanigans I talked about earlier. Another bonus is that for Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Torchic, Treecko and Mudkip, their final forms are all capable of Mega Evolving. This is another incentive to evolve and for me, the best of the group are Charmander and Mudkip as their new abilities make them quite powerful. Now that you pressed the button already, I would recommend going straight to Venusaur if you want. Ivysaur actually is able to evolve to its final stage at level 32 unlike its other starters (funny enough Feraligatr needs level 30 and Meganium is also 32). The new moves you can learn are all quite powerful and I think you should have a Persim Band by now. Evolution Crystals are unlocked at the postgame. Certain missions will give a few as a reward and some dungeons will have them as a reward for completing them. Collecting them can be a bit tedious, but you can recruit Pokemon that need them to evolve, so I find it not an issue. Case and point, you can recruit Exeggutor in Sinister Woods.

I forget what the average stats were for Slaking, your 3rd member you chose there, but I think it's considered pseudo legendary, except that the Truant ability means you're always losing a turn. But it does hit like a truck and it makes sense, given the base stats are, from a quick check, on the level of Groudon and Kyogre: 670 total. Then again, the "pseudo legendary" Pokeon like Salamence and such have about 700 total base stats
@DemonRaticate
@DemonRaticate Күн бұрын
Base stats don't really translate well to PMD DX. While Slaking has base 160 Attack in the main game, this game's Slaking isn't that much more powerful than Raticate. In fact, it actually gets really gimped from Truant due to the fact that its damage isn't as overwhelming as it is in the main game.

@DemonRaticate
@DemonRaticate Күн бұрын
Yup, the ability to use items and walk away from an enemy when Truanted at least makes it very usable. You can even equip a Nullify Bandana to remove the Ability completely. Slaking actually has a very usable moveset too in Uproar, Hyper Beam, Fury Swipes (if evolved from Slakoth or Vigoroth) and nearly anything Skitty can learn. Since the stats are more evened out, it actually can use its massive Special movepool.

13:00 Regarding what Absol says here, returning to the end of the dungeons where you faced each of the three Legendary Birds (Mt Thunder, Mt Blaze and Frosty Forest) will let you do a rematch against each of them. Defeat them a second time and they will be recruited to your team. Same goes for Groudon and Rayquaza. Be warned through, they will NOT be holding back this time, having much higher stats and more powerful attacks. (That’s not even getting into what Groudon and Rayquaza both do halfway through the battle.) So if you want to recruit these Legendary Pokemon you had BETTER come fully prepared.
