The irony is that nintendo can't do anything about the drift because they would lose the lawsuit. So that lawsuit that properly brought it to their attention is the thing that is stopping them from taking action on it.

In the last 3 years two pair of Joy-con drifted after 1 year and a half, while my Pro Controller which I bought 3 months after Switch's released hasn't drifted any time. If your Pro Controller drifts it would be a normal controller drift like the Xbox and Playstation can have. it would drift just a little and can be fixed by deadzone unlike Joy-Con's drift with literally takes no movement as a full direction. Don't worry about your Pro Controller as much as with Joy-Cons, they use a different mechanism (that was also used on the Wii U)

This is an excellent how-to video, with thorough explanations throughout. I was able to mend my pro-controller following these instructions to the letter. It now works perfectly with no signs of drift. As an bonus, the controller is now as clean as be. Yes I have 2 cats and have had my pro controller for a year and I can see hair and dust in it. It has started drifting. I just need to get the right screw driver and cleaning gear and I’m going to try and clean it myself. I don’t like taking things apart but I will do my best. I don’t use my joycons much because it’s worse for them to drift. I love the pro con better. When I have cleaned it I’m going to put them away to avoid dust and debris when I’m not using it.

Yes, same here. It's flawless now. Only blowing air didn't fix it, but after applying some WD40 (the multifunction one), the issues just went away. I was a bit worried that I'd use the wrong spray, but the normal WD40 seems to be working fine with electronics as well (its even stated on their homepage).

Guide worked great. Thanks! For anyone struggling with putting the ribbon back on at that weird angle, instead of trying to slide it inside, the part that you put it in has a little hinge that flips open, so do that first, then put the ribbon on it and then close the hinge. Much easier, and the video didn't mention that.

@GD.5

I mean theoretically, any controller for any system can have drift. It's just Nintendo's using bad/cheap graphite paste, leading to it chipping away and effecting how the stick reads movements. Basically, JoyCons have really bad paste, with pro controllers being a decent amount better (hence the fact that the drift is common) and then most other controllers have better paste leading to drift being way less common.

Fixed it for me too. I did not have a compressor or air can, only the wd40 stuff (already had that lying around). But it wasn´t very dusty, so I just skipped the blowing stuff out part. Before my controller would randomly move and never settle in the middle. I could not even do the calibration because I could not complete the "let your stick go" part. Initially I bought the contact spray to fix my phones type c no longer charging half the time and that worked very well too. This stuff is priceless for all kinds of things! Can only recommend.

Honestly, for the best results, you should use the JIS Japanese standard bit instead of philips. They fit better and will be less likely to strip, seeing as the Nintendo screws are pretty soft.
@samuelturner6076
@samuelturner6076 3 жыл бұрын
Ty so much I managed to fix my Procon drift cuz now, just a few things of note the review doesn’t mention. 1) The two handle screws are screws definitely for a J00 screwdriver J standing for Japanese Industrial Standard, the Japanese equivalent of Phillips in both shape and usage. As I said these are extremely similar to their Phillips counterparts but they are different which may make unscrewing them a little harder. In order to open them you will either need a J00 screwdriver or a Phillips 000 screwdriver. 2) The next four screws for the transparent backplate are also for a J00 screwdriver so as above you will either need a J00 screwdriver or a Phillips 000 screwdriver. 3) The last top four screws (the ones at the top in between the shoulder buttons and just below the shoulder buttons) to split the controller in two are probably for a J00 screwdriver although they could be for something else. I think found that my Phillips 000 screwdriver did work although it was difficult, I also found that a Phillips 0 screwdriver worked. 4) I have found that the last fifth bottom screw to split the controller in half (the one by the pairing bar) is an absolute pain and I stripped it on my first attempt. I think it may have been different to the other four at least on my model. As I wasn’t able to get it out properly I don’t know what screwdriver it was for, also in my case I’m pretty sure the screw was silver. However good news so long as you have all the other screws you can put the pro controller back together without that bottom screw and it’ll work fine. Other than that all good, also take heed of Alex’s words and go easy on that contact cleaner. I used the same make of compressed air and contact cleaner as him but I guess I wasn’t as good on applying the latter because it didn’t dry properly. My controller works fine now but just to pass some help to anyone who reads this :)

This video helped, but it did not warn me about how difficult getting the screws out for the first time was. They were incredibly tight and I had to be careful not to strip them. Definitely not as easy peasy as the video shows, at least for the first tear down. I also would have appreciated better instructions with the ribbon cable, specifically for how to reattach it. It was difficult as well, and the first time I reassembled the controller I messed up the ribbon cable and broke the buttons.

I decided to follow this tutorial anyway just because I knew it was going to get worse (it's almost as old as my launch day console, the warranty was already expired by now). Here's to clear any confusion. The Pro Controller, like any other controller, can drift. However, drift is a very uncommon issue with them. Joy Con however, use a different mechanism for their sticks which causes their drift rates to be much higher than any other controller, including the Pro Controller. The Pro Controller drifts as much as any other controller, Joy Con have a design flaw that causes them to drift a lot.

I wad having dash issue in smash, i checked the first time and it doesn’t drift. After playing a while and I literally only can dash for 30% of the time while most of the time was walking input. I checked again and I’m surprised that my pro controller drifted (towards left). It wasn’t the case for my joycon from day one. I bought cheap air duster and screw drivers, follow your method of cleaning with the spray. Now it works like a charm. Thank you so much

No they don't, stop lying. @@steel5897 Yeah. They do. Another Nintendo controller that is known for doing that was the N64 controller, for example. From Sony? The PSP "joystick" was also awful and got drifting issues easily. I stripped a screw getting the handles off. Couldn’t for the life of me get it out with super glue or rubber bands. I tried the smallest drill bit possible. I eventually cracked the head off and the handle released. I then used needle nose pliers to get the broke screw out. Next I used my Steam Deck Jsaux backplate additional screw and replaced it. Worked perfectly. I then proceeded and cleaned it up as presented in video. Drift is fixed! Saved $70!

From what I've experienced, I've had drift in both my joycons and my pro controller, but the third party controllers have been completely immune to it, so the moral seems to be Nintendo can't make controllers anymore lol
@tisjester
@tisjester 4 жыл бұрын
From what I've experienced I've never had drift in either my joycons or pro controller, but 3rd party controllers fail within a few months. So the moral seems to be that Nintendo makes better controllers than 3rd party manufactures. That being said I am fully aware of the Joycon defect in the carbon contacts (not being robust enough) that will wear out faster over time compared to other potentiometers. They are more susceptible to the ingress of dirt and debris. Personal experience is not a measure to make sweeping claims. It is very hard to find a quality 3rd party controller that does everything that the Nintendo made controllers does. Yes even 8bitdo controllers can and do suffer from controller drift. The Chinese knockoffs tend to fail fairly quickly compared to Nintendo Pro controllers.

AVD I’ve been playing for over 25 years and I’ve had NES, SNES, N64, NGC, Wii, GB brick, GB pocket, GB color, GB Advance, GBAsp, NDS, Switch, PlayStation 1,2,3,4, Xbox, XBox 360, and in my experience the only controller that I had to replace because of hardcore usage was the N64. Nowadays, I just got my third pair of joycons (they’ll be the last, trust me). All of them drift (except the new one, but I’m sure it eventually will). It’s not about usage, it’s about quality and Nintendo clearly forgot they had a seal, a seal of quality. Remember it?
@cag_0k642
@cag_0k642 4 жыл бұрын
Miguel González Well yes the joycons are quite trash but the pro controller (and any other controller) doesn’t drift for the same reason, it’s usually because a a small part in the stick begins to deteriorate, probably not a problem on Nintendo’s side since all controllers share this part
