The width is the same as the ES8 which is 245mm longer but with 3rd row seating, the ES6 with just 2 rows feels very roomy inside with good luggage space. Soft close doors is a nice touch.

Nice concise mini review, I bought my ES6 3 months ago, really pleased with it. Still finding new features (some items are not intuitive), as you said the mirrors are good but also you can enable a pop up view of blind spot when turn signal is activated. For a car weighing nearly 2.4T it is surprisingly nimble, I run in comfort mode which around town is fast enough, Sport + acceleration is almost brutal, anything not tied down ends up in the back of the car. I initially found the steering a bit light but after getting used to it I like it, despite lightness it is precise and responsive.

Why Nio need to do away with battery swap if you dont like it? You can still buy the EV with battery and charge like any normal EV without battery swap. Nio didn't say you cant charge their EV...

The point of the replaceable battery isn't battery swap, that is gimmicky indeed. Worse user experience than just fast charging. The point is to be able to change the battery when it wears out, or when new battery tech gets introduced. Swap it out for a 150 kWh battery in 5 years.

Can you test the charging speed of the new et5 touring or el6. They have upgraded the 100kw battery’s and they can now charge at 180kw. There are videos that they are still hitting 170kw at 70% soc. if that’s the case then it has probably one of the best charging curves on the market

Xpeng G9 does 300kW in all the markets where Nio is being sold. While being cheaper. It charges above 180 kW up to 80%.

I bought a new car in the EL7 segment in the Netherlands recently, checked out Germans, Nio, Tesla and Xpeng and I went for Xpeng because Nio was too expensive. It's just not cheap (here at least) for what it offers. Nio fans tell me you buy one for the "brand reputation". But it's just another Chinese car. Chinese cars don't have a reputation (yet). Badge lovers buy an overpriced German.

I'm pretty big guy, and I had tons of room in the front seat when testing the EL6 (ES6) 184cm high and 110kg.. the main console is about the same size as the one I had in my old BMW 528 touring 98 model with automative gearbox

In most countries, when you are caught operating any mobile device while driving, you will get fined (around 180 Euro here), in some regions you could even lose your drivers license for a couple of weeks, for very good reasons: you can't be distracted while driving. And yet, almost every new EV that I see forces you to use a touchscreen interface to control everything, including ventilation and airco. How is that not distracting while driving? I can find these controls blindly while driving in my car, and they have a tactile feedback to them, like clicks when turning up or down the temperature. In these EVs, I would have to select the correct page, and then use some on-screen buttons to do the same. I would really hate having to do that while driving through heavy rain and/or heavy traffic. I hope these manufacturers come to their senses soon. How do these cars even get certified in all these countries with laws against operating mobile devices while driving?

@@bjornnyland Fair enough, but the cars that I drive still have physical knobs and buttons to operate things like airco, wipers, ventilation, blinkers. Whenever my windscreen fogs up in heavy weather conditions, I can operate them blindly. I really don't want to have to navigate through some user interface to find software buttons on a screen while I'm driving. The central touchscreen to operate everything is a dangerous evolution.
