The hatchets ended up being my absolute favorite weapon in the whole game. You've got moves for basically any situation you come across.

i can’t believe i’ve played this game so long and not considered the hatchet parries. going to try that! one thing i found with deadly spiral- it’s excellent for crowd control and for the element arcanas. you can set mobs of warriors on fire/shock and usually proc a status on the big yokai like enki, kiryoki etc in one spin. hatchets fear no mobs!

My current build is hatchet/fist, take grace lightning set and brave demon set, first i bait and slice from afar then switch to fist for beating them up real close, it's insanely fun, and when there is 3+ enemies, i just spin to win I also put sacred bird on my low stance (i rarely used it) so i can skedaddle away if overwhelmed

Hatches are ridiculous. I knew it was the right choice. (Though I don't know if getting the hang of those odd sheath behaviors is worth it, feels like something TN will patch once they catch wind of it)

Only time I've seen TN patch anything is when it causes a major bug or breaks the game. They haven't touched item cancel tech a single bit so it stands that they will almost never patch hatchet tech.

Every weapon is viable for the underworld. It just comes down to what your build is really.
