@@josh-oo According to japanese mythology, Oni and Ogre is sometimes interchangable, but in other texts, the two are similar, but different. For example: - Both are considered dangerous and threatening to human safety. - Both are regarded for their large size. - Both eat human flesh. The differences on the other hand are: - Ogres are living creatures, whereas Oni are terrible humans reborn as demons who live in hell. -Ogres are not attributed to specific colors, but Oni's are not associated with red and blue skin, but also tiger patterned clothing. - Ogres hate humans out of beastial instinct to devour smaller creatures. Oni punish humans out of malicious joy or a sense of duty to punish wicked people (most often the former). -Ogres have layers. Oni do not. -Ogres hail from Western Folklore, while Oni were derived from Buddhist, Hindu, and Shinto beliefs of the East. -Ogres do not have a sense of religion, while Oni have gods known as kijin, such as Otakemaru. -While Oni can be translated as Ogre, the word more correctly translates as demon, which is generally used to describe powerful, malevolent humanoids in a broad sense. Ogres and Oni are indeed different. Sorry if it felt like I was explaining shit for stupid reasons; Just so a chance to research something and share my findings.

Nioh's Co-op is actually pretty fun if you use the Tori gate from the map screen. It actually has its own specifically balanced co-op mode that features stronger enemies, slightly different enemy placements around the map, and an entirely different mission progression and fail state system. This is actually explained in the game as a tutorial prompt. Using an Ochoko cup in a mission to summon someone is like just pulling a Phantom in to bully stuff in Dark Souls Using the Tori Gate is a specifically balanced full Co-op mode. They also REALLY need to pay attention to the button prompts at the bottom of the screen in menus.

"every point was giving me ~1% damage... If it's not above 20% it's not worth anything" Okay, but Pat this isn't the blood gems in bloodborne giving you half a percent of extra scaling this is a point in a tree that maxes out at 99 if every point made you notably stronger then NG+ would just be one shotting everything due to a 99 stat giving you 1,800+% increase in damage. Dark souls only feels you need to spend points because it gatekeeps equipment from you which is great for dark souls but nioh isn't here to say you can't use that, it's here to say use what you want and when you figure it out pump the stat you need and make the build broken
@azure98
@azure98 3 жыл бұрын
Even better 99 is only the INITIAL cap. Once you get far enough into the NG+ System it increases the cap to 200+ and even then the largest contributing factor to your power in Nioh/2 is equipment and skills. You can legit have just the absolute bare minimum to equip your gear and use your skills and you'll still be able to do 5 to 6 digit damage numbers. And the game has a crafting system to push that with just a bunch of ways to just micromanage your equipment and exactly what stats it has on it. Which unfortunately plays into a complaint he had since the crafting isnt really useful till the tail end of NG when your about to tackle the DLCs.

@@crazygamer4260 There is a respec system. One of the purple consumables is called "Book of Reincarnation" and allows you to reset everything. And you get quite a few of them. Its the same as Nioh 1. Plus Im pretty sure they are farmable. I played all the way through Way of the Nioh and every new game I changed my build. As for your weapon skill points. Since they are now attached to just using the weapon, you can pick a weapon you have never used before , just farm a good spot with a bunch of gravestone summons and max all the weapons moves fairly quickly. And the higher the difficulty the faster this process is. For example, On NG++ I killed 2 NPC summons with a new weapon I never used and got 12 Skill points out of it. The hardest part Isnt worrying about your stats Its building your gear. But that isnt really important until NG+ when you get green rarity gear.

Nioh's NG+ and its systems are basically the same thing going on in Monster Hunter World. You dont unlock decorations until high rank so you're not really doing builds until then. You just enjoy the combat and fighting monsters until you get to that next level. You can also engage with Nioh's systems earlier than NG+ (set bonuses are huge upgrades) but just check on your numbers occasionally if you feel underpowered and sell everything under rare. Playing with the different movesets and elements is super fun outside of the RPG stuff too imo
@HGMerc99

Here is how Pat solves his loot problem. Never look at it unless you get a purple. Go to the Blacksmith. hit Dismantle. Then hit the button on the bottom of the screen that says Sub Function. (for me its the PS4 Touchpad button) Now you can select "check off all below this rarity" and get rid of all that junk loot. Now you can go to crafting. Combine all your white materials into as many purple materials as you can make and finally use those to spam craft your weapon or armor of choice until you get a Purple that you like at your current level and Junk the rest. Problem solved.
@chieferik7964
@chieferik7964 3 жыл бұрын
Which is weird because he was doing that by the end of his play session. His main disagreement with the game really seems to be that he doesn't like seeing loot pop up from minor enemies like a piñata instead of crafting materials. Which like you mention is a non-issue given that you can treat loot as crafting materials. The only improvement to this system I would make is if there was an option to auto sell or auto dismantle the moment you pick up low rarity loot as opposed to going to the shrine and auto selling.

So his problem is that the stats for the first playthrough dont matter almost at all outside of requirements. having 99 strength isnt going to change much in a first playthrough because nothing scales well in the first playthrough. You are asking players to invest a ton of time into a system that isnt really showing any effects. Them being good in NG+ means nothing if he isnt having fun in the first playthrough. Even in NG+ they dont matter because you are just getting a certain amount for everything and then doing a dumb stat. Souls isnt like that because scaling is effective from when you actually start the game. If you find a sword you like you are going to keep using that sword and feeding stats into that sword. But you are actually seeing gains that you dont see in Nioh 2.
@Acrobuster
@Acrobuster 3 жыл бұрын
I found the scaling to be quite effective, in my first playthrough I went all in on hatchets, just pumped their stat and a bit of life and ki. They were very strong. I think we're on the same page, at least a little? For a playthrough that isn't NG +2 or whatever (I actually dislike high NG cycles in any souls or soulslike game so I don't go past +1 usually), you can build exactly like a souls game. The level softcaps are maybe just a bit higher and therefore the individual gains from a single level are a bit smaller, but the theory still remains the same as souls. All I'm saying is that if he dislikes fiddling with stats so much he could just pump his main weapon stat and whatever comfort stats he wants and have a totally fine playthrough.

But he even said at the start the game wants to be a mix between Dark Souls and Ninja Gaiden but it goes right down the middle. Combat is great but when I have to interact with a loot system that does not show any for of gains until after I have beaten the game that it feels like of pointless. Even in dark souls the stats only mattered to a point. But in Nioh 2 they do matter for so long and then they are all that matters.
@PlamoTherapy
@PlamoTherapy 3 жыл бұрын
@@gearhead417 and that's why he's treating it like a Souls game. In Souls, your stats matter because they gate the weapon you wanna use, with the scaling bonuses only really becoming relevant in the late game when you have upgraded equipment. In Nioh, the stats are also there to gate your equipment (armor, in Nioh 2's case), but because there's no PVP, and there is a large level cap for stats that you can realistically reach at the end-end-end game, there's no reason to make a "build" by a certain level, like the SL 120 the Souls Community decided upon. Because re-speccing is cheap and practically unlimited, you can't really "ruin" your character while going through the game for the first time. From this perspective, the "sub-1%" gains make more sense because there is just so much of it. He was starting to get it when he said in the stream that he felt like "going all 10's" is what he felt like the right thing to do. Which it is, because "builds" only start to truly matter post-NG. Really, the Goblin Overlord here would have to be analysis paralysis. Nioh 2 offers SO MUCH CHOICE with regards to player engagement, that Pat's Mind Goblin of insisting on interacting with every little system right at the start is what really did him in. He wants everything optimized from the get go, which is a fool's errand in this kind of game.

That's why i like the Surge 2, because you optain weapons and armor pieces by cutting the specific body part off. That's the only way to get what you want, this goes for equippment and upgrade material only utility items drop. I think more Soulslike games should have a system like that.

I think you can adopt the system from the Surege 2 into a fantasy game if you for example use the stance system from Nioh. Based on the stance you have you are able to cut different body parts, if you fill a meter like in the Surge 2. With the stamina element there is a constant management between switching stances and having enough stamina to cut something off. In the Surge 2 you had the option to cut armor parts of but it took longer to kill the enemy. YOu also could attack the parts that are not armored and kill the enemy fast. But for less rewards. I think if you combine the best elements from Nioh and the Surge into a more traditional Souls, it would be awesome.

Pat's grave mistake was comparing Nioh to Dark Souls, just how many other people do. And they are all wrong. Nioh is Ninja Gaiden, he got that right. But the loot system was directly taken from Diablo and having piles of garbage as loot is normal in Diablo. This garbage exists only to level up your good stuff or sell for money/donate for items. I was swimming in hundreds of healing items in Nioh 1 because I donated all my white-blue loot to the shrine. And when you have only purple items to consider there is almost no room for OCD.

Destiny has this problem almost to a tee. 3 tiers of loot, blues, purples, and exotics. Blues are completely fucking useless past the 3 hour mark and you will always be drowning in them. Purples are half bad, half meh, and like 1% are crazy and they're locked behind raids and the worst pvp modes (trials and banner). Exotics are special weapons, most good, that you only need one of so anytime you find an exotic you have you think "wow, nice, anyway *dismantle*". It is so fucking bad and the worst part is you have a LIMITED FUCKIG INVENTORY. So not only will these useless blues and repeat weapons fill your inventory until you dismantle them, if you get too many you can LOSE ITEMS FOREVER. If your inventory is full it will go to the postmaster and if your post is full it will DELETE ITSELF. Fuck goblins and fuck ALL TIERED LOOT SYSTEMS. THEY'RE ALWAYS BAD AND WILL ALWAYS MAKE YOUR GAME WORSE.

this reminds me of Grim Dawn. the lowest tier of loot is so bad, that it actually drops less often than epic loot (by a lot) to the point where its more like a joke: "can you believe any enemy would be stupid enough to use this?" however, the next tier of loot can have very specific bonuses, to the point where an armor piece i found before hitting level 10 i was still using almost halfway to max level. the green and blue loot has more stats and can grant abilities and bonuses to skills, but it generally has less chance of boosting specifically your build. so while the loot on general is mostly useless, its more than its useless to specifically your build, than being useless in general.

I've been playing Nioh 1 recently as well and boy, doing the inventory sorting after every mission is also too much if you ask me. I've just done one big sorting each time I unlock a new region, and left it at that. The game honestly vomits so much garbage equipment at you every two steps it's kind of insane. And it also means you're unlikely to pick up more than one or two new pieces of gear per category that are even worth a look, so you're probably not even missing out on stats by not looking through all of it.
@Left4Coragem

I love that Pat can't handle gear in Nioh, when you can go up to the third difficulty of the game, literally wearing any garbage you find along the way and still finish it without much trouble. The game also not only have a loot filter for all the itens that drops, but also in the smith, the store and the shrine, meaning with the press of a button you can choose all the gear from a set rarity to more common itens and trade them for money, material for craft or xp. Also, of course the stats of the game gives you minor increases to the character's numbers, the max level is 750. Pat is talking like a true games "journalist", like he hates the game, doesn't understands it but it's being forced to play.

he actually understands it, he's tired of people saying it all matters near the end of the game/new game+. He just doesn't want to do the busywork in the early game where 99% of what you pick up is trash. Just, listen to the clip lol. Like you said, you can clear everything without caring too much about stats in New Game with trash gear no problems at all, that's what he knows already. But legitimately his criticisms were being forced to slowly learn the system by osmosis when it doesn't really matter. I didn't think about it at the time but I was in the exact same situation as him in New Game. Only a few of the bonuses or upgrades in the skill trees/stats/set bonuses looked cool to me, the rest might as well be another minmax % to make New Game SLIGHTLY easier. And New Game does not matter. Do you see the problem here? The fights were good, but... everything else is kinda busywork. Only once I almost finished the game did I start respeccing into multiple builds and having EXPONENTIALLY more fun. Case in point, I went through the whole of New Game with just a single weapon type (fists). Because New Game doesn't fucking matter, my mind goblins tell me not to respec into other weapon types, so whenever I try out a new weapon the damage feels like shit and I'm discouraged and I have to go back to fists. I did enjoy the fights in New Game...just, not everything else around it. Notice that I keep mentioning New Game, not New Game+. Because I 100% agree, Nioh 2 gets far better once you get past that first hurdle. And Pat does too. His problem is now whether or not he's willing to try out New Game+.

Then Woolie brought up these same problems Pat is having with Nioh 2 is the EXACT SAME PROBLEMS AS MONSTER HUNTER. The only difference is the amount of loot (which again you can ignore like a normal person because people were saying just take the good drops) or how most of the loot was useless as like in Monster Hunter where you only care about the single low drop rate item but don't get it in over 20 runs killing the monster that can take from 10-40 minutes and you end up with a box of hundreds of useless crap that you just sell off like Nioh 2. Hell, Pat's main problem was it popped out of trash mobs like a pinata which is a mind goblin not a legit complaint and the legit complaints he had became not legit because people were explaining menu options and features in the game that he didn't bother to read at all anyway so it's his fault on that one which he wants to read with Monster Hunter with the ungodly amount of new tutorial menus in THAT GAME. It really is just Pat's Mind Goblins at work. He can still dislike it but it won't be based in logic or reason but personal preference which is what Mind Goblins are. For the most part, this is wrong - Monster Hunter Freedom is a psp release based on Monster Hunter G, which is an enhanced version of the first Monster Hunter, and it gives you a set of iron weapons (Sans 'Dual Blades', which weren't 100% a standalone weapon-type, and incorporated into the SnS tree) right off the bat, without going into the field - there's the argument to be made that "NUHHH WHILE IN THE ABSOLUTE BASIC VERSION OF MONSTER HUNTER ON THE PS2 YOU'RE FORCED TO USE THE SNS UNTIL YOU CRAFT OTHER WEAPONS", but there's literally no reason to play that version, when you have Freedom - why would you play a strictly inferior version with less content? tbh MonHun started at Freedom Unite, and there's no reason to play anything before that unless you're a JUMBO VILLAGE ENTHUSIAST, or whatever - it is a culmination of the first, and second generation, with monsters, weapons, and maps from the previous entries.

@@SuperPokemin No, he said "OLD monster hunter" implying the older games, and it's not true for the majority of the old monster hunter games. This is also a video where they talk about newer games invalidating old entries, and Monster Hunter freedom 100% invalidates the ps2 Monster Hunter - it's like Scholar of the First Sin to unpatched DaS2, or Dark Arisen to Dragon's Dogma - there's literally no reason to play the previous iterations, when this is the >>DEFINITIVE

Nioh 2 suffers from the same core problem for new players that Path of Exile does. Playing through both of them the first time without talking to people who already know how it works just feels like a barrage of systems that simultaneously seem needlessly complicated as well as pointless. I spent a large portion of my first character for both feeling like I had homework to catch up on that I never ended up doing.

I love Nioh series to absolute death, but theres a limit to where i can play before i hit a seemingly permenate wall, which was, I had my best possible gear, really high stats to my weapons i use yet i only do like 200 to 600 at best sometimes dmg, then so when i go adventuring online i just see people constantly doing 3 to 4k if not 10k damage persecond so i proceed to go online follow the steps to a T to get the same results, including gear bonuses, stats, gear sets and what not...only to now do like 300 dmg to like 500 now.. maybe cause im not a math guy im just never gonna get it but just man.. maybe one day.

You know what's ironic about Pat's problem with looting in Nioh 2 loot, FFXIV has a very similar problem. I've been playing through the entire game up to Shadow Bringers since last year and very rarely would I ever need any gear dropped from dungeons. The main quests gives you good armor for whatever class you're playing every couple of levels. And even when dungeon gear is better it seems really minuscule and you'll likely get a better replacement from the main quest anyway. And this leads to the exact same inventory filling system that I think is even worse in FFXIV because item space seems more limited so eventually you have have to manage it. But despite that I'm still enjoying XIV a lot. I don't think I've ever heard Pat complain about FFXIV's gearing system when I feel it has a lot of the same problems. Also, as some other people have said Nioh 2 has a pretty extensive help menu that explains pretty much every element of the game, and there's plenty of tutorials for game mechanics while you're playing so I'm not sure if this is a problem with the game or Pat just, "not looking at the screen."

OH GEEZE! Speaking of games that have the entire previous game in them, Oneechanbara Z2 Chaos is a weird example. It contains the entirety of the previous game (Z Kagura) GAMEPLAY-wise, but not story-wise. Story-wise, Z2 picks up AT the credits of the previous game and continues from there and basically makes no sense if you didn't play the previous game which did not get an English release...except that you wouldn't want to because gameplay-wise it's just a worse version of Z2 Chaos. Basically, early on Japan really didn't like the PS4 and didn't want to develop any games for it so most of what the PS4 got were multiplatform releases and enhanced ports. Z2 Chaos is, gameplay-wise, an enhanced port of Z Kagura (which ran very poorly when it was ported to PS3 as it was optimized for 360). So that's why it's so weird.

I thought for a second he was talking about Persona 3. I'll admit I probably enjoyed JoJo Part 3 the least of all parts when I watched it, mostly because the "monster of the week" formula really didn't do it for me. It felt like the pacing dragged. The main cast was great though.

P2 writing is better. But is a proper SMT so of course. Also they aren't really connected, have even less in common than Castlevania so is easy to start from 1,3,4,5 or whatever will be release next.

There is. You can only have 500 piecrs of gear in your personal hammerspace. 4000 in the item box. The limit should only really come up when you are at the end end endgame semi-roguelite.

I've always been annoyed by looting games too with the trash loot. It makes me feel sad how pointless 90% of the gear is. I recently picked up Diablo 3 on Switch because it was on sale, and I feel it's done the best streamline of any looter system I've played. Whenever you pick up anything, it gives you a little preview in the corner with a base stat sum up. If there's more green than red, equip it. If not you just press one button to instantly junk it, and you mass sell all junk at shops.

Question to you Monster Hunter vets: How many of you, when you start a new game in MonHun for the first time and you're dropped with your Sword n Shield, basic armor and a item box full of weapons. Did you strip naked, sell everything and start the game crafting everything you collect and scavenge through the tutorial missions? I ask cause starting at 48:09 - I say Pat is right that it's very anti-new player to just have a sword and shield and build outward, but it's not right to say it's a bad thing in general and it was 'miserable for everyone'. I disagree with that.

I'm a vet, having played every MH game but the 1st, and I actually didnt really get into the series till gen and then went back to play 4U, 3U, and FU. I will tell you this right now: I grab my preferred weapon (changes every game) and immediately speed-run to bnahabras and grind them till I can make their armor, then just make do with whatever weapons I can slap together until I reach HR. Where I will then slap together some low level HR set like HR bnaha or (in world specifically) kulu yaku and use that till I can farm mid-late game sets. To further this: I literally had 3 sets of gear by the time I beat nergigante in MHW, and 1 was the free set you start with. The other 2 were the LR kulu and HR kulu sets. I then, after killing him and beating the base game, grinded out sets I actually planned to use. Also because I'm insane I prefer playing solo and hating life every second I play till I get my endgame sets because HO BOI SHOULD YOU NOT DO THIS BECAUSE WOW ARE YOU FRAGILE if you are like me and dont even bother upgrading that armor at all cause it is just temp and your brain says dont waste the upgrade mats on temp gear. The only exception to this was my very first MH game, MH Tri (ended up dropping it b4 I got into the series properly with Gen), where I actually went out and constantly made new sets and would be like "OH THIS SET HAS +3 DEFENSE OVER MY OLD SET TIME TO FARM OUT THE ENTIRE SET!"

Oh no, it was shit. I just used the Sword and Shield in the first one till I was able to buy Great Sword because you HAD NO OTHER WEAPONS TO GET. You only had Sword and Shield starting out. Main hate though was the fucking controls more then anything because it was original DMC controls that you control sword swings with the left stick. Though I was playing the PSP version and bought Monster Hunter 1 and 2 for that at the same time so switched to 2 and never looked back and was happy my items carried over from MH1 so I could out and out upgrade stuff way faster and get into the swing easier. MH2 and Freedom Unite were the games I put the most time in and just felt like massive improvements. MH1 was ass in terms of how fucking fast Velociprey, the base velociraptor small monster enemy could just swarm you and juggle you in the air infinitely and also had the fact monsters didn't hurt each other when they ran into you.. Bullfango and Vespoids were also even more annoying still going forward as Bullfango charged EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. and you would just be forced to kill them to not have to deal with them. Vespoids were just problems because the way the fly and move kept you from being able to hit them reliably and they could paralyze you at the worse of times as they only go after you. When people say Monster Hunter got easier it's because of QoL updates. Better hitboxes, monsters actually can hurt each other, small monsters didn't swarm you to death, most monsters can't just turn on a dime and have better hitboxes so the charge tackles don't have damage auras. You can move during healing instead of going to a different section of the map to heal so the monster can't hit you. People who bitch it got easier are just weird masochists and nothing else. They also complain about things not being hard when they literally haven't put hard mode into Rise like they didn't in Worlds and keep forgetting how G Ranks were updates to the games in the form of A NEW GAME. The first games was super anti new player because most people won't want to go with that grind, it was experimental game and they updated a lot of stuff afterwards for just the update of the game and then the sequel.
