When I first tried the Tonfa weapon, I fell in love with them. I got a pair of tonfas eith devastation star skill, and I started using them. I haven't found a divine or ethereal version of the gunsticks yet, but I will. thanks for this build PWARgaming, your builds have always helped me and are entertaining to watch. Great work!!

Bit of a warning for those braving way of the wise, there's some bullshit mod that has a sword icon with an X symbol debuff from some red/bosses. If you get hit, you CANNOT use Tonfa gun, it disables it completely! Fought shiggy and he has that mod. Even if you nullify, it will disable tonfa gun if you get "hit". Kind of kills the skill, thus killing the build, thus killing tonfa's only real viability for nice damage. Some BS. Don't get hit by it I guess.

no easy way, but a better way is to equip itokuri, and have luck on accessories. Pray at nearest shrine to sasuke (kick shortcut down THEN pray at the shrine), then fight him, kill him, if no text drop, quit the game (don't finish mission), when you reload you'll be back at the shrine, and repeat for quick kills and it and the set will eventually drop.

PWARGaming Quick question, if you get pierce guard on your tonfas, will it stack with the GS? Another question...is Consecutive Attack Damage Bonus A (can't remember the correct name for it), is it worth it for a high combo weapon like Tonfas?

yes, will stack, I "think" there's also an ethereal set with pierce guard which combined with centipede as main spirit+pierce on wpn, can get over 50% pierce. No, consecutive gives about the same dmg as fam A bonus, except takes 6-8 hits to reach that dmg (so around 15% max), so generally, I'd stick with Fam dam on wpn, and either A agility or equipment weight depending on your weight.

Damn, time to try this build. Had honestly great luck with the smithing text for both sarutobi and sanada (sarutobi dropping both texts in 3rd fight and sanada 4th and 5th). And i agree tonfas are really fun. Loved the Odachi and loving even more the tonfas.

Nice! You'll like the playstyle a lot :) Just make sure to get the weapon stats and at a decent lvl (200+10-ish) right then the armor set bonuses will carry the rest of it.

Project - 1st time commenting! Your breakdowns of your builds and utilizing all of the tools in Nioh are fantastic! Keep up the great work - I know it's an incredible amount of time to put these together. My question is this...If I were to isolate just 2 builds for the game with minor adjustments (e.g. swapping out kodama helmet for amrita runs, etc.) what 2 Armor combinations would you particularly use? I just reached level 300 and I have lately used Armor of the Exceptional - do I keep this or drop it all for Kaido - pretty sure I want my second set to be The Devastator in this video. Any advice would be great as I aim to complete WotD and move onto WotW shortly. Cheers!

Thanks for commenting! :) hmmm, yah a safe bet would be jpn bravest if you plan to utilize skills more than normal attacks. jpn bravest lets you have a wpn of your choice, and a helm of your choice to swap around in, though you'll need higher stamina since the gear is heavy so if you want to use something like dual swords for example, you'll have to level up more to get 99 in those stats on top of the pressumably 60+ stamina needed to wear the set. I suppose 2 kigestu + 2 tatenashi also will give you around 23-28% damage (vs jpn's 35%), and you gain an extra slot to use for weapon. Tonfa isn't really good in way of the wise.

Thanks for replying - I did push stamina up so I can stay in B agility - I think I am at 91 - I just feel I may be giving up other perks by staying with that set. I am a big fan of getting in the middle of the battle and like Kusarigama, Tonfa, Spear, dual swords in that order of preference. Cheers!

On some enemies i will do an entire mid stance combo up until the devastation skill and it will do less then half their health but then the devastation skill will do over half their health. Without the gun skill tonfas feel very weak and you are better off just using square triangle triangle over and over again.

Pretty much, they need to be buffed (even devastation by a little). Odachi at least had a great lw mode when it sucked on release, where as tonfa's is kinda of meh, and the small range means you have to waste more time attacking compared to odachi strong attack one shotting everything 10 ft around you.

ive found a couple ethereal charms, but I cant bring myself to equip them because I also found a (not sure of the prefix for it) Tada Mirror. Its a divine charm but gives me 90 luck and has an ethereal special effect which has been super useful. it reflects projectiles back at the enemy when I get a timely guard. This works for gun/bow/cannon. I havent tryed it out on the thrown stuff from ghouls yet.

This is great, been have a lot of fun with tonfa but I agree pulverise while looking and being great at inflicting status ailments, it is generally not worth it outside of that. Doesn't even do that much ki damage tbh. Also the demon dance into pulverise is bugged in low stance, doesn't even work goes straight into normal combo (which is good cos I wanna combo into crimson or devastation). I found devastation didn't do that much damage as I was expecting but didn't know about thrust damage affecting it, will give it a try after I craft some scion of virtue armour and report back if it works in late game WotW content.

Thanks for the video, I'd give the Tonfa a go but that Tonfa debuff thing is putting me off. Seem like any potential new spear builds? Been a bit disappointed thus far with what we've had to work with for spears.

It's really aggravating, making me dislike tonfa's honestly. Also, that wpn disable thing DISABLES your ENTIRE wpn, meaning, any set bonuses will be canceled too (so parry disabled is also canceled, so we can't even combo right anymore against blockers), AND, there's no way to get rid of it besides dying with quick change, or running around (without getting hit again for it to refresh) until it fades out. *Its pure bullshit and needs to be removed.* But no I haven't messed with anything besides tonfa, and don't pay attention to what others have done so unsure if there's anything decent for spear. Doesn't look like the case though, will still be a bottom tier wpn dmg wise (likely above tonfa though)

I have 3 characters, all of which I got and grinded to every end-game, so I juggle between them to save from having to make new setups and swap junk around constantly for build videos. But yah, I've already did the playthrough's, but often have to respec anyways to test stuff, but I save books by savescumming, testing what works and what stats I should use, then copy old save and then respec perfectly into the stats I want/need. So all these stats you see in my build are the best possible optimal setup for them, usually. Never making another character ever again though haha the grind is too real now.

I didn't have a Sarutobi tonfa that has devastation modification yet so I currently run it with extra elemental + augmentation effect for fast discord. 1 pulvarized + 2 tonfa guns can discord most enemy in way of wise.

You don't need the star effect with devastation bonus because it only boosts the damage of devastation, not Tonfa gun. The difference is pretty minimal when I tested it, only 7-8%

Great build, but got a question, if you dont have the weapon skill devastation on your tonfa's then go for skill damage?

you can't have both ccd and skill damage, so you'd be replacing ccd 20% for skill dmg 21-22%, which wouldn't make much difference besides making all your other non-skill attacks weaker (which includes the initial attack to combo into devastation). Stick with ccd and/or farm for his wpn smithing text, so you can forge a star effect devastation one.

Really? from what I tried with it it kinda sucked ass, especially against human blockers. I'll have to toy with but so far it's not look that great, especially since the range of attacks is pretty bad for crowd control and slows it down compared to kusa/odachi and maybe even spear.

I have a question about the CTA. Tonfa's scale with CTA dex, heart and skill. If you put CTA (dex, heart or skill) onto ur weapon does it replace the natural scaling from the tonfa's? If so, would it be ideal to choose CTA Dex because it has thr lowes scaling factor of these 3? Or am i completly wrong about that? Sorry for bad english

There's this misconception of cta. ALL cta's are equal, so long as your stats in them are equal. it doesn't replace anything, it simply adds damage based off how high your stat is, totally separated and unrelated to your weapon scaling. I could have cta spirit on these, and so long as I have 99 spirit, it will still be 2330 or whatever my atk was with cta skill. Make sense? You only need to get cta in whatever stat you have 99 in, doesn't matter which one.

PAWRGaming hey man nice video and build, I'm having a problem getting the star skill thing you think you can explain to me how to get the skill damage devistator, I've been farming, forging, reforging, I don't know what else to do maybe my luck is just that bad lol but how do you obtain that skill on the weapon it's literally the last thing I need.

star effects are forge or drop only. The way I did it was get smithing text, amass enough materials to make like 10 of them, don't forge anything. Then savescum. That is, back up save onto usb. After that, try to forge (use 10 divines each forge for best chance at getting divine, its worth it for things like this) for star effect, if you don't get it, re-copy your save from the usb ONTO your ps4 (overwrite save on ps4), then you'll end up back where you left off before forging, to which you can forge again for another x amount of chances. Repeat until you get star effect. If you do it right you'll have no problems getting it in a few savescums. As pre-cautionary though so I don't get in trouble, your system or save could get corrupted, so you can't say I didn't warn you. Never happened to me and I savescummed 100+ times, but you never know I guess.

english is great, don't mind! And yah probably now more than ever since cap is 500, at least for melee. Can't get 99 in all stats but 500+25 (you start with 5 pts in each stat) divided by 8 = Around 65 pts in each stat. Take away from magic/spirit to stay at 30 magic/33 spirit, and you'd have near 70 pts to put into other stats (probably body to 99).

Hey Pwar, does the Devastation attack also counts as an heavy attack!? Cause If so, Grace of Susano gives you 13% Close Combat dmg at 4 pieces and 16.4% Strong attack DMG at 5. Isn't that good in combination with Sarutobi?!

If it indeed effects it, maybe. I haven't tested it, but would assume not since it's a skill, not necessarily a strong attack. I doubt it does, but would be nice if it did.

Yah replace fdb till you get A. C+ shows up a lot. Try switching between spirit chunks, then back to divine fragments, maybe that will mix up the reforges.

General question: is it worth using one piece from Genius Strategist's set in order to get extended parry opening? If you get super blocky human enemies (dual swords master, anyone?) it gives you a few more options, but idk if you lose too much CCD to get it. Edit: sorry I meant timely guard opening.

I think you lose too much ccd, tonfa's are already pretty weak even with this dmg setup (aside from devastation/tonfa gun). But yah blocking guys are annoying for this build, but I think tomorrow I'll make a vid for wise on how to farm them with this build,tinkering with a couple pieces and talismans

Honestly not sure, I just tested the "devastation" part (which thrust increases), I really don't know how "tonfa gun" scales. Perhaps its based off the devastation dmg, but seems multi hitting. Its hard to test because of that. I got cannon passives from ninja tree in case though, wonder if cannon dmg on cannon effects dmg, o well back to testing :p Edit: cannon dmg/long range atk dmg does not effect tonfa blast, neither does ranged atk mastery, unfort.

description has where to find armor. forging armor cuts requirements in half, rounded down, so mines were cheap. You might need 19 anyways if you plan to get ethereal stuff since you can't forge them so it'll always be 19 for the best version (ethereals).

Hi there sorry for my silly question but can I find blue print for sarutobi gunstick? And we're? Cuz I was doing 1 mission about20x times and whatt I got is blue print but for sarutobi set armours :(

that's the mission. You don't need to do the mission over again and again from the beginning. What you do is unlock shortcut to shrine just before sasuke boss. Pray at shrine after doing so (even if you prayed before). Go kill sarutobi (use itokuri as main spirit for more item drop rate), if he doesn't drop smithing text, QUIT game. Once you reload game, you'll be back at shrine, then you an kill him again, and repeat. Don't complete mission, quit the game instead after killing him, but you have to have prayed at the nearby shrine first before doing any of this. This saves you time from having to go through the mission all the way from the beginning. then just luck/rng. NG+ drops more often than ng. wotd or way of the wise isn't necessary, feels ike same drop rate as ng+ so do ng+ for easier time.

I have one tonfa with devastation star skill buff and one without and the difference is only 5% damage because devastation does not apply to the tonfa gun and tonfa gun is like 80% of the damage when you do the skill. Just saying. It's crap Star skill you are better of using any other special effect.

How does PWAR get so many pieces are armor with no inheritable? I have a ton of Attack inheritable gloves ready to go, and literally never found a piece of my set with the slot open...

maybe forging? I usually always only forge stuff, and they usually always come with 7 slots, with inheritable symbol, then I simply replace that inheritable with attack from gloves.

Hi, to farm the smithing texts are really that easy ? you have to go to the whole level each time, beat him, start new, run to the whole level... is there an easier method to do it ? Or it's exactly that ?

no no, what you do is pray at shrine before killing him. Then go and kill him, Don't do anything except check drops. If no smithing text, QUIT GAME. when you reload back in, you'll spawn back at the last shrine you prayed at, and the boss will still be alive (if you did what i said), then go kill again, repeat until he drops smithing text. This saves you from having to beat the mission all over, so don't "complete mission", unless you get the smithing text.

not worth it i don't think. I have cannon fire damage, but it only effects the elemental effect at the final blast, and if see the elemental damage, its actually too puny. I suppose you can use fire talismans if you wanted more elemental damage overall, way of the wise take a lot more elemental damage (before it used to be maybe 1k-6k at best, now it goes up to 8k-9k+ on some enemies).

honestly, there is no best way, unless you farm in way of the strong revenants and hope they drop inheritable atk 20. Normally now, I just kill so much stuff fast that I eventually get a few, so, stages like hyakki or marobashi or anything that drops a lot of loot will get you pieces faster. Also they only appear on divin/ethereal, which I'm sure you know alrdy, so easy way is ng+ and just spam farm fast kills and hope gloves drop.

Replace it. Reforge it, or temper it and hopefully A pops up in umbracite tables. If umbracite doesn't have it, use a normal umbracite to reset the tables and hopefully get it. CTA A's are pretty common with tempering.

nah, whatever makes tonfa stronger will make the other weapons stronger too. ethereal stuff maybe makes tonfa stronger than this build was, but doesn't help tonfa be any more relevant than another weapon, so it's still going to be one of, if not the weakest wpn to build around. viable, but may struggle against some things (or a lot), which can be good or bad depending on if you want op junk to one shot stuff or farm efficiently, or if you like the slower gameplay and challenge anyways so don't mind the bad power. when you have weaken melee on you you'll basically be swinging two wet noodles at stuff lol

Though honestly maybe you should consider making a dual build character, so you can swap setups without having to use a book of reincarnation (example, if you wanted real power, you can turn this build into my newest build, Perfect Susanoo, since they share similar stats).

Yasakani Magatama, essentially functions as the Ring of Royal Grandeur from Diablo 3 in this game. Reduces require set pieces for bonuses by 1, aka you can wear 3 pieces for a four set bonus.

decently high lvl + a ton of locks from all the difficulties. They give them out like candy, and there's always some famed locks each dlc in the missions themselves. pumping 99 in str/skill will give you melee skill pts, and of course with dex being 99 you get lots of ninja junk.

Sure, but idk if kingo is good anymore considering the danger way of the wise. Fishing for back attacks probably isn't smart nor efficient. I suppose you can use 2 tata, 5pc scion, and maybe something else like fanatic 2pc since we often go to 1 hp a lot. That probably gives more dmg, but you'd have to get parry disable on wpn then and lose with weaken torso or another dmg stat (yes parry disable is that important given how many humans there is now)

This is a bonus you get from having a Yasakani Magatam equipped :> This accessory counts as a piece from all gear sets in the game, so you can mix and match at your leisure.

Nope (maybe in a few DLC update down the line), but in WotW crit builds are not the best idea. EVERTHING dose bonkerz damage and you can get smacked out of LW real fast. I have a stong build, good armor and great BOOM sticks and some of the bosses are just as if not way harder than when I played my first time with no build and wack stats. In short... I'd say just go with a SURVIVE! build that deals good damage in WotW.

I'd imagine, but with nullify damage perhaps they're not that needed. Though there is enemy mods that get rid of your buffs, unsure if they can only do it by damaging you, or if simply touching you disables buffs, in which case tank builds would be more appealing. From what I heard in general, even tata builds get 1-2 shot in some instances, but probably since most aren't high tier gear/max lvl gear yet.

Hino-enma and the toad are on way of the wise though. vid was 4 days after 1st dlc hit...didn't have time to beat the dlc, make, test, and put together a build AND video on top of going through all of way of the wise. I watched the video dumb ass, I skimmed through it to get to what his build is, and how it works. Its 16 minutes. why would i watch every second of it? The point im making is this build doesn't work for the new regions, the armor is too light and it doesnt do enough damage. Pre Wise it's fine, a little into Wise its fine, mid way + it REALLY slows down. Please don't talk what the fuck you don't know. I built this build and tested it for myself, on hakki yagyo and it barely dents the bosses.

did you fight all the sub-missions, specifically the date one? Or perhaps you have to beat two dragons from the 1st dlc, and/or you're covering the mission with mission menu since its on the far right, next to the castle/build drawing on the map, it unlocked fine for me on my playthrough.

gloves with inheritable attack. the []>[] symbol next to attack on gloves, max the familiarity on them, then soul match them onto your armor :) Make sure to un-equip the gloves you plan to use for material.
